Hi,

We’re releasing a fresh developer version of Opera for you today. It contains number of fixes, including:

  • Notification setting icon to open notification exceptions settings,
  • Bookmarks and browsing history are successfully imported from the default browser again,
  • Some Linux fixes for unreadable fonts and web pages,
  • Search & copy pop-up fixes.

You’ll also find new flag #more-share-menu-access-points, on Mac. It enables sharing in macOS via the main menu and the selection pop-up.

Chromium was updated to version 57.0.2950.4.

Please check changelog for details.

Known issues

The current build for Windows is non-PGO one.

H264 is not working on Linux with the currently available Chromium codecs package. Sorry for this.

Why are you so stubborn concerning the mouse gestures? At least implement scrolling through tabs to have the absolute basics! What’s the matter with you? I’m waiting 3 years for that, tell me please what’s the problem!

    • jho

I think the real problem is that you should start developing your own browser. You lost 3 years in ranting.

      • tarkus

A reply of the highest caliber!

        • jho

          Thanks. 😉

So smart, maybe when someone is disappointed with a surgery they should do their own too nevermind the years of studying medicine, and so on. Very practical advice.

    • Balcis

I was just here to write we need a gesture customizer soo bad. ı don’t think it’s difficult.

Hi, this Opera update (Win10 x64) keeps crashing on Mega (mega.nz), both with and without the mega extension. As soon as I log into my Mega account the page crashes. This is happening on the latest beta version as well (since 43.0.2442.21). Just checked the stable version and it works fine.

    • Confirmed. The previous 44 version hadn’t got the problem.

    • Ari

True, I have just tried on Opera beta version you mentioned and it’s crashing.

    • 0b8

Yeah, I can confirm that …
happens at least in win & osx versions …

      • Citizen Unique

Just submitted a bug report, hope the devs can sort this out shortly.

For reference – bug ID: DNAWIZ-10940

    • Luis Amaral

I am also having problems with other websites as well. Opera seems to have crashed and my system stops responding for seconds before it starts working again as normal. But I have to close opera and restart for it to work normally.

    This site crashes every time:
    http://direkte.vg.no/studio/tata-steel-2017

    Same in Vivaldi… Chromium issue?
Works fine in Opera Neon …

    • jho

      Also crashes in last beta

      • Robert Tomaszewski

Thanks for catching this. I logged this as a bug.

        • Citizen Unique

The latest beta and dev versions (Win10 x64) crash on Mega as soon as you log into Mega account, can log this as well?

          • Leonardo Gomes

You can do it yourself: https://bugs.opera.com/wizard/desktop

Don’t forget to fill all fields and provide info as much as possible . You can also post the bug id (without the @ part) here for reference.

Does anybody know why the password manager is not appearing when I try to login here via disquas?

    Thanks!

    concerning plugins,
last 44dev, Opera can’t remember last settings, e.g. disabling plugins.
this 44dev hasn’t any switches to disable plugins (win 8.1 + ubuntu) – what are you doing, it can’t be “programming”?!
=> News feed handler + Chrome PDF Viewer are fixed?!

  • L33t4opera

Hi Kornelia, thanks for the update and fixes 😉

Regarding the H264 support on Linux, a temporary workaround is as follows:
    1. download the opera-developer-ffmpeg-codecs-56.0.2924.10-1 package from the Heracura's repo: 32-bit, or 64-bit version,
    2. Navigate to the Opera's root folder, create a new subfolder "lib_extra", and extract the "libffmpeg.so" file from the package to this subfolder.

    New flags:
    – opera:flags#enable-slimming-paint-invalidation
Enable a new paint invalidation system.

    – opera:flags#disable-background-video-track
Disable video tracks when the video is played in the background to optimize performance.

    – opera:flags#media-remoting
When Casting a tab to a remote device, enabling this turns on an optimization that forwards the content bitstream directly to the remote device when a video is fullscreened.

    – opera:flags#media-remoting-encrypted
When Media Remoting is enabled, this flag must be enabled to allow the remoting of encrypted content. When disabled, only non-encrypted content can be remoted.

    – opera:flags#enable-nostate-prefetch
"No-State Prefetch" pre-downloads resources to improve load times. "Prerender" does a full pre-rendering of the page, to improve load times even more. "Simple Load" does nothing and is similar to disabling the feature, but collects more metrics for comparison purposes.

    – opera:flags#more-share-menu-access-points (Mac)
Enables sharing in macOS via the main menu and the selection popup.

    – opera:flags#disable-webrtc-hw-vp8-encoding
Support in WebRTC for encoding vp8 video streams using platform hardware.

    – opera:flags#enable-webrtc-hw-h264-encoding
Support in WebRTC for encoding h264 video streams using platform hardware.

ffmpeg from 56.0.2924.10 not working with this version chromium 57…..

      I compile libffmpeg from 56.0.2924.59.

      Works.

      • L33t4opera

Hi, I’m sorry, you’re right, I meant to write “opera-beta-ffmpeg-codecs-56.0.2924.28-1” (I have corrected it in my comment) – this version works here without problems.

This is like that, because the maintainer removes old packages, when he uploads new versions to the repo. I will update above comment accordingly.

    Hi, Opera Desktop team!
Could you please publish Opera Presto under OpenSource license (GPL, MIT, BSD, Apache, WTFPL, etc)?
We already have the source code. You are not going to maintain it. So maybe it’s time to split up and let community look after Presto?
    Pleeeeeeeease …

    • Leonardo Gomes

As far as I know, Presto is still used in some products so I guess they won’t release or publish anything.

      • bwat47

It also probably contains various middleware etc… so it almost certainly wouldn’t be as easy as just open sourcing it and calling it a day

    • x a

So, you used to store the BlockMouseInput flag as a special arttribute on the html tag. That’s why I had to patch the call to elm->GetPluginActivated() to kill the click-to-activate Eolas patent issue – those were the good old days.

  • Sunil Kumar Singh

Ask where to save broken on on win 10,
    Opera can’t remember changed settings,

    • Leonardo Gomes

Are you trying to download executable files? if so then Opera will always ask for the download location.

      • Sunil Kumar Singh

Ask where to save is checked in settings but it never asks(in download manger it shows as downloading but never completes)
but in download window just cancel it and restart it and it for that FILE
        jpg,wep etc
or just disable asking & saving works.

Any one knows how to find or file the bug?

        • Leonardo Gomes

I thought I was facing the same issue but now I’ve tried to reproduce with no success.

You can report the issue in the Opera for Desktops BTS.

      • Sunil Kumar Singh

Its opposite of what you think

yes i have set ask for all downloads(but opera does not ask)

    • inDigazzZ

      Turn off opera://flags/#show-save-file-dialog-on-risky-download

      • Sunil Kumar Singh

this happens with most downloads so it’s not related to it maybe

  • Ralf Brinkmann

    Feature wish:

I like to scroll through pages only by the space key. If Google search results, Amazon or other online shops results, offers from music shops or anything else. For this purpose I use the extension “rel Link Pager” (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/link-pager/cgddacggfmoggigikjjcogdodjiplibe). In Opera 10.x and 12.x there was something like this built in, but Opera >15.x doesn’t have. This extension does nearly the same, maybe better. But unfortunately sometimes, especially in answers to replies in Facebook, the tool decides to stop accepting my inputs and reloads the page, so that everything I typed till this moment is gone.

Can you do anything or give me a better extension or does anybody else have an idea? I don’t want an extension like AutoPagerize, that pastes all single pages together to one big powerpage. I want to see every single page and at the and one “space” should bring me to the next one. Without mouse targeting, pointing and shooting.

  • Kirby green

I like the new design of Opera blog.

  • Any plans to support Windows 10 share contract? Would be very useful nowadays.

  • LamiaLove

More English in blog post, please! 🙂

  • 0b8

… deleted, because mega.nz crash was already mentioned … sorry

  • > H264 is not working on Linux with the currently available Chromium codecs package, again.. Sorry

For me it’s not that it just broken now. It… still not works for a long time 🙂

    • L33t4opera

Hi, please have a look here 😉

      • Thanks. It helped. But can I build it myself? Is there some instruction about how to build this ffmpeg library? AFAIK it’s not standard ffmpeg which is also presented in my system (built with all needed features but not used by Opera).

        • L33t4opera

You’re welcome, yes, you can follow the instructions from the guide by Łukasz Jagielski, except, that you have to download the appropriate version of the Chromium source code = Opera’s Chromium version, so for the Opera developer 44.0.2475.0 it will be 57.0.2950.4.

You can find additional information regarding this case: here, and here.

  • patkoscsaba

WOW! Just installed it on Linux. Fonts are even smaller. So. 2 builds ago fonts were OK. In the previous build fonts shrunk 50%. In this build they are even smaller.

    • Gianluca Ciccarelli

Hi @patkoscsaba:disqus , do you have the same problem with Chrome? Do you know which DPI you use? And on which Linux distro are you getting this problem?

      • patkoscsaba

Linux distribution: Sabayon 64 bits – latest
Desktop Environment: KDE … I am not at the computer, I don’t know exact version
Chrome stable looks OK. In fact in Chrome fonts are even larger than on stable Opera.
        I use 1980×1020 resolution on a 27″ TFT display.

        • Gianluca Ciccarelli

Hi @patkoscsaba:disqus, do you still have this problem? I’ve finally managed to get access to a KDE environment. I am on a 2880×1800 display, and had to go to Display Configuration > Scale Display and set the scale to 2 to have all the applications (including Opera) to have a readable font.

          • patkoscsaba

Yes I still have it. It now happens on stable as well. In another thread someone suggested some parameters, and after I set these to the opera run command: –alt-high-dpi-setting=92 –force-device-scale-factor=1
This makes it look almost perfect, without any KDE settings changes. You may need to change the values for your system.

Can you play Vimeo videos? I turned off ad blocking, but I see Opera’s browser.js making 3 changes to the page. Is there a way to temporarily disable browser.js?

https://vimeo.com/173610242 is the video I’m trying to view.

I see this line 3 times on that page:

    > Opera has modified script or content on vimeo.com (PATCH-1166, vimeo.com – make click-to-play and turbo mode work). See browser.js for details

It loads fine, but when I click play the video never starts.

    • Leonardo Gomes

Video plays fine here on Windows 10.

I’m on 64-bit Linux. This may be related to H.264 not working in Linux, but I’m not seeing any error messages or anything. I’m not sure.

        • Arjan van Leeuwen

Yes, this is H264, vimeo uses H264 exclusively. There’s a link to working Chromium libraries that can be used for H264 elsewhere in the comments 🙂

Since today I can not open or login on https://forums.opera.com/ anymore. Endless loading. Even if I disable all my extensions. Another german user with Opera 42.x has the same problem.
No problems with Google Chrome, Firefox and Vivaldi.
I can open the page with an empty, new, virgin profile, but I don’t find the mistake.

No new developer today? This endless loading of https://forums.opera.com/ slows my whole Opera down. All tabs.

Now, I can open Opera without the message. Looks like the sufficient privileges problem was solved automatically by Windows system or something like that.

I updated Opera yesterday and since then I cannot view a website. It keeps saying that I have the adds blocked but I have that site on exceptions and even completely switched the ad blocker off. It is a big problem with the software!
