Hi,

please grab fresh developer builds we prepared for you.

Full changelog contains all the details, but the most important fixes are:

  • Crash when closing settings during importing data from other browsers was fixed
  • New translations are integrated to Opera 43
  • There is no strange behaviour when dragging a folder from the bookmarks bar to the tab bar
  • Close button was moved to the left on video popout window (we don’t know why it wasn’t done before 😉 )

Known issues

Missing Opera icon in O-menu (Linux only)

  • Ralf Brinkmann

Oh! Nobody here? Just downloading and installing. 🙂

    • Kornelia

      We’re here 🙂

  • Kai Ockendorf

Installed it & opening the browser is always a disaster for a couple of builds!! When you open it, you see a blank white page for over 15 seconds…after that it’s fine & the browser starts to load! Also, when you close the browser, the red X turns a bit darker and it won’t close immediately! It takes a while & you see the mouse “working circle” on your mouse pointer! That all can’t be normal…W10x64, Ox64

    • NoName

This is not normal for me.
Do you still have the problem with a new USB installation?

      • Kai Ockendorf

I never did an USB installation! This behavior shows up at an update & with the installer! Both versions (Dev & Beta) are infected, even if you only start the browser. Stable is ok!

        • NoName

Your stable might be infected over time, when a new version is released.
So it would be nice to find out why.

I asked if you tried it. Installing a USB installation is an easy way to install a clean version of Opera without tampering anything on your current installation.

If the problem persist on a clean installation, then you know that it’s not your profile that is messed up.

          • Kai Ockendorf

Ok! Thanks for the hint! Will try that 😉

          • Kai Ockendorf

Did this USB installation! Had a blank white page too during the installation, but not that long! Opening the browser works really fine, but closing is the same behavior:

when you close the browser, the red X turns a bit darker and it won’t close immediately! It takes a while & you see the mouse “working circle” on your mouse pointer!

            so I’m a bit confused now…

  • Nekomajin43

@kornelia_m:disqus Any word on a confirm exit feature?

    • Kornelia

Your suggestion was reported and that’s all I can say 🙂

      • Nekomajin43

        Thanks!

  • Ralf Brinkmann

I see the same problem described in earlier versions: Opera wants to be the standard program for PDF files.

  • NoName

I still cannot use Alt+Shift+Left or Right to move the Opera window in Windows.

    • Robert Tomaszewski

Hi NoName, probably you meant Win+Left or Win+Right – it works on Opera. Alt+Shift+Left does not work in any other Windows applications as moving the app window.

      • NoName

Yea, correct. I changed it. It’s supposed to be Win+Shift+Left.
That’s the shortcut that does not work 🙂

    • Dmitrij D

It just doesn’t work when Opera is maximized btw.

      • NoName

        Correct 🙂

If I do a Win+Shift+Right and then restore the window with Win+Down, it suddenly changes screen while restoring as well.

    • Blapidoup

I found a workaround, press left then right (or opposite). Or double left/right
      That’s a very strange bug.

  • Vikruntasas

    Guyz…guise…gais…VPN…leak…still…there…fix it…please…”dies”

    • Ralf Brinkmann

      Which country?
      Works her (Germany).
      W10x64
      Operax64

      • Vikruntasas

I don’t have a problem connecting to VPN. I have a problem with the VPN leaking RAM when watching a video or scrolling through pictures. RAM usage goes to 5-6 GB and will keep going till I run out of memory.

  • Ralf Brinkmann

What about this flash video problem? https://disqus.com/home/discussion/operablogdesktop/private_opera_developer_43024200_update/#comment-3020506022
It’s still there. The video does not play. Opera does not automatically switch to HTML5.

    • Leonardo Gomes

Try enabling ‘prefer html5 over Flash’ in flags.
This way, videos will be played with html5 if available.

      • Ralf Brinkmann
        • Leonardo Gomes

Maybe you need to block Flash in settings.

          • Ralf Brinkmann

Ha ha ha. What should be the sence of this? Then I can also disable the flash plugin or uninstall it and can no longer play one of these little videos here: http://www.lustigestories.de/fun/videos/videos_show.php?video_id=51. Have you tried it out yourselve?

          • Leonardo Gomes

Well have Flash blocked and I whitelist only the sites I would like (need would be more correct) to play Flash content.

Maybe you can block Flash for that site so html5 player will be used.

          • Ralf Brinkmann

I think Opera can do better!

          • Leonardo Gomes

For sure, since it is an issue. Opera could, for example, always try to load media content using html5 if available.

          • Arjan van Leeuwen

This is not how it works though. It’s the web site that detects what to serve, not a choice the browser makes. The browser can just say what it’s able to do, and the web site serves up this or that video depending on that.

          • Ralf Brinkmann

Yes, and then it should work. Opera has two possibilities and offers them. And if the website selects one of them it should work. Google Chrome works with both kinds of videos, Firefox does and also Vivaldi. Wen had the same problem with one of the older Versions for some time and then it was fixed. Now we have it back.

          • Arjan van Leeuwen

I’m not sure you understand what I’m saying.

The web site is free to serve content that Opera cannot play, since it might not do this check correctly and (for example) always serve Flash videos to Opera. Opera in this case has no way to ‘know’ that there’s an HTML5 video somewhere on the internet as well. Bad user agent sniffing still happens in 2016 🙂

So, you should try changing the user agent and see if that fixes it. If it does, this is an issue on the web site. Tell them to fix it 🙂

          • Ralf Brinkmann

I’m not sure if you understand what I replied. If Opera does not know that there is a HTML5 video, then it should play the flash content. Flash is installed and should work. But in this case it doesn’t.

          • Arjan van Leeuwen

Ah, ok, now I see that you have the flag enabled. Let me tell you what the flag does:
            * It tells web sites that Opera does not have Flash installed

This makes the web site not serve any Flash content to Opera. This is the purpose of the flag. It’s then up to the web site to serve HTML5 content instead. This doesn’t work on all sites, but the idea of this flag (which comes from Chromium, not from Opera) is to force sites to make HTML5 content available.

If you don’t like it, don’t enable the flag 🙂
            > If Opera does not know that there is a HTML5 video, then it should play the flash content.

          • Ralf Brinkmann
          • Leonardo Gomes

Strange, I can’t play Flash on that page no matter what setting I select for Flash.
Probably because ‘prefer html5 over flash’.

Britain just passed the most intrusive surveillance laws in the history of democracy. The US elected someone who looks an awful lot like a fascist.

Please can we make VPN a bit more functional for anonymity?

I don’t know if there should be a separate VPN mode for anonymous use but cookies will quickly break VPN anonymity. Making cookies accessible from third party sites is a big no-no.
Using Google whilst logged in to it will break VPN anonymity. Likewise any social media.

Private mode is a bit too restrictive for normal use.

Also, employ a security expert to verify that you’re not giving our data to the NSA etc.

Since most recent beta posts are 5 days old, I’ll post this here: eBay is currently not working properly with Opera and also Vivaldi and Slimjet, meaning chromium based browsers. For example, the page link below shows ok, but change the sort or click on the links to the side and one gets a page of code, with the following message:
“This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.”

        Thanks.

  • Blapidoup

Dang, the resizing of popout videos is broken again.

  • Nan

Hm…I installed windows x64 version, but I can’t install updates successfully with the push. The way I can succeed in updating is download file in this page.

    • Leonardo Gomes

For me, auto update is working.

There’s any error message when you try to auto update?

      • Nan

The windows will show that opera can’t install. However, it won’t tell me why.
If your auto update can work, maybe I should try to uninstall and install it again.

  • x a

Horizontal selection of link text works better again after regression in last build.

  • beBoss

In opera you have pinned 10-15 tabs, then decide to watch a video on your second monitor so, u r open a new tab and then drag in it to the second monitor, so this tab becomes a window. After a while you need to restart you computer, you are closing your windows with pinned tabs and then you are fuck*d, because opera is not close, right you have that window that you watch a video or something else on your second monitor, and you have to close it too. What that means? It means that when you start opera again will open only your last session/last tabs were closed…. And to have you main windows you use open you have no option, so you have to go to history and reopen every tab and to pin it again and blabla. This should be fixed/added as feature or idk, but it’s annoying..

    • Blapidoup

Exit Opera through the menu or Ctrl+Shift+X.
One way is to replace Alt+F4 and the close button on the top left right to use Ctrl+Shift+X, but that would be even less ergonomic.

      • beBoss

Why I have to use some hot key combination while Microsoft are created close button. This is opera design problem, and in the previous ver there was a session manager or whatever was where you can open last session/window and wont have any problem.. As i remember there was an option in the new engine in previous ver again, a small button with arrow on the right of the browser where you can open recently closed window, not only the last tabs, but now this option is missing?

        • Blapidoup

What do you mean by a close button ? Opera has also some close buttons and they follow the other browsers behaviour.

There is still an arrow on the right of the browser to open closed windows and has never disappeared.

And you can still open the last session window without problems…

          • beBoss

by close button I mean the red X button on the right which is windows close button for programs, I don’t need combinations in Windows to close programs… And No there is no arrow button on the right? I don’t have it….

          • Blapidoup

They just follow Windows guidelines, going against it would be anti ergonomic.

            Regarding the arrow : http://i.imgur.com/5HdsYg7.png

          • beBoss

I don’t get what you don’t understand. Close button means closing the program. And that means closing that I don’t need shortcuts to close the program… And as I said i don’t have this option…

  • iwod

  • Eugene Galonsky

When I do doubleclick to select a word, search popup appears in wrong place on retina display. (Windows)

    • Kornelia

What do you mean by “wrong place”? Could you send me screenshot?

      • Eugene Galonsky

This means that it is displayed with offset. Here is explaination screenshot. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1730921/operascreen.png Problem appears also in latest stable release.

      • Vux777

        I’m also experiencing this
        http://prntscr.com/ddmgyd

I believe this is an iframe problem
iframe nested offset is not counted in when calculating position of the popup,
you should probably use screen dimensions instead of pageX(Y)

  • Ralf Brinkmann

After some hours of using Opera (I don’t know, if really “working” or just having opened it with around 30 tabs) I see, that Opera seems to have problems with memory. Sometimes tabs don’t reload or images in the page don’t load anymore, sometimes I see, that a tab, that I just left, is reloading, while I have pressed F5 in the next visited tab. Sometimes Opera simply stops working and freezes. Mostly it does not help to clear the cache inside Opera, I have to close it and use an external tool like CCleaner. But sometimes also after doing this Opera does not restart properly and opens only one tab and freezes again. Then I have to shut down all open programs/applications and restart Windows. It is difficult to describe, because I didn’t find out any rule.
I think somebody else has mentioned this a while before.

    still 2 mentioned bugs active:
    (1) in windows (7 + 8.1) cache isn’t depleted, when performing “chrome://settings/clearBrowserData” (choosing all + since install), there are significant remains in ‘profile/data/cache’, > 15-40 MB! Every session, only win, standalone install.
    (2) trying to start Opera_dev under Ubuntu 14-gnome (using .rpm-“install”), the keyring request pops up, again and again:
    http://s1.bild.me/bilder/240416/5317989ubu14_gnome_keyring.jpg
    same under Xubuntu 14.

  • redfox

Could anyone from the Opera team tell me, why the SurfEasy Proxy extension is a trial only and the built-in VPN in Opera 39+ is unlimited? These products seem to be the same.
I need to use the VPN in Windows XP, so I have to install O36 + the said extension, but the free 500 MB limit is not sufficient. Why this extension is not unlimited too, if used with the Opera software (O36)? Thanks.

    • Leonardo Gomes

They are different products. As far as I know, the extension allows you to choose among a wider range of places to connect, not to mention other things not available in the built-in VPN.

It’s not loading for me, as well on latest beta and latest stable Opera… (works on other browsers)

        • Ralf Brinkmann

Hm. I’m afraid that it is another problem. Have you tried out a clean install? Just close Opera, rename the profile folder (for testing purpose) and restart Opera. Opera will create a new, virgin profile. Later you can rename the old profile folder back. You can find the profile folder via “opera:about”.

          • hylik

Yes, i tried clean install of every Opera branch (as well x64 build) before posting here… I’m on win7

Want integrated separate download manager like Firefox so that we can download files without keeping this heavy browser always running. Some files takes ages to download and this browsers uses no-less RAM. Know this is a big work but think Opera team will consider adding this in the future?

@kornelia_m:disqus Please make it possible to edit the title of the RSS feed. Some sites provide titles that have no connection with the title/address of the pages. For example “new posts” or “comments”. We will have a lot of similar titles under the custom sources without the ability to find out which page do they belong to without opening the feeds one by one.
