  • Updated Chromium to 53.0.2785.101
  • Bugfixes for translations.
  • Disabled background sync and push messages (they will be further evaluated for O41)
  • Changed requirement for Sync password and passphrase to minimum 12 characters for new users.
  • Added support for memory hard, Argon-2 based password hashing for authentication.
  • Fixed Intel HD graphics-related crash, where you might have been experiencing black areas on top of the Opera window
  • Fixed a crash on Linux for the ones of you who don’t see Opera Menu

Since this is the RC, we are especially eager to find out from you about any issues that could be blocking the final release, planned next week.

It would be great if you could update to Chromium .113

    • firuz_u7

I hope Opera (stable) will Chromium 113 or shortly
and thank you for your hard work

      • BK

This is a cat and mouse game 🙂
Surly 116 or something even newer, given recent daily updates from Chrome, will shortly arrive in desktop stable. https://www.chromium.org/developers/calendar

        • qwerzaq

please make the Alt key to not cause menu button
I press Alt to highlight the links but I menu opens

          • Enoch

Yeah, please disable single Alt button.
            It’s really annoying.

          • firuz_u7

+1 please, disable single Alt button

  • Dask

Backspace in address bar still activates Go Back

  • Leonardo Gomes

    Nice office.

    • Kornelia

Thanks Leonardo, drop by and visit us one day 😉

  • Lifehacker still exists? I thought gawker went under.

  • Daivy Merlijs

x64 and VPN included in stable version then?

    • Wando Schneider

Nop. x64 probably will land in 41.

  • Jean Racine

I have a long delay when scrolling in my personnal news. Its new since the update.

    • Kornelia

And what’s your operating system? Thanks.

      • Jean Racine

Windows 10 64 bits, post anniversary. Seem fixed now. Hardware acceleration was re-enabled without my consent. I think it uncompatible with my surface pro 2. Am i the only one. A lots of hangs and not responding.

When I open Opera menu in mac version, the browser broken and restart automatically, both in 41.0.2349.0 & 40.0.2308.52

BTW, I use the macOS 10.12(16A319),Retina macbook pro 15″ mid 2015

please fix this problem and thanks for your work

    sorry for my poor English

    • Kornelia

Hi, I’m using 10.11.6 and I don’t have any issues with Omenu. Please tell me, if this happens with many tabs opened or maybe with all of them closed? Is adblock, vpn or battery saver enabled? Thanks.

      • kentooo

I tried to uninstall opera, and remove all the files about opera, reinstall and run with default settings, but the problem still in there.

Then I tried ver.40.0.2308.44, It works well

        • Kornelia

What about tabs? Are they closed before clicking Omenu by any chance?

          • kentooo

No, I did not close tabs

Whether in any website, any tab, just when I click Omenu, the problem must occur

    • BK

Thx for this report. We are fixing it now. Soon you will get an updated final build

      • kentooo

I updated system to macOS 10.12(16A323), and tried opera stable 40.0.2308.54

        the problem still in there

        • BK

Soon – as in not yet – expect it in few hours :). New post will be published.

          • kentooo

oh, i got the new stable version, thx for your great work

  • Which filters are included in native adblocker of Opera (such as EaslyList, EasyPrivacy?) It would be helpful if the list of filters is given in Ab Block page at http://www.opera.com/tr/computer/features/ad-blocker

    • Aneta Reluga

      It’s EasyList and EasyPrivacy indeed.

      • Thanks. I could not find any details on this.

      • cicciazzo

do these lists include the localized lists? (ex Easy List Italy).
If not please consider adding them automatically to the opera blocker (using the opera ui language to detect which one to use)

        • Nekomajin43

Localized lists are not included. But you can add them in the settings.

          • cicciazzo

yes, I’ve added them (I copied the URLs from ublock origin).
however it could be useful to add them by default, to help new users.

          • cicciazzo

btw, I see this is possible on opera desktop, but what about mobile? I cannot find how to add a custom list.

          • Leonardo Gomes

            You can’t.

          • cicciazzo

            well I’m not surprised.
so opera devs… can you please implement this?
            thanks.

          • Leonardo Gomes

AFAIK ad-blocking on mobile is made on the server so it may be kinda difficult to allow custom lists.

      • Nekomajin43

Any chance to handle the “abp:” protocol to add lists without going into the settings?
        Example: http://prebake.eu/

  • Ari

Awesome work guys, this issue http://disq.us/p/1bi0905 was fixed. Thank you!

    • BK

      thanks !

  • Dask

There’s also a problem with the autocomplete in the address bar:
When entering a search string, and moving down in the list before the list is finished moving, upon finishing the selection is moved to the first item without being displayed correctly.
    Super annoying.

    • Ari

Yeah, same to me. You have to be quite fast starting moving with the keys for the bug to appear but yeah it’s annoying when I get it. It has been there for very long time I would say also in previous major versions.

      • Dask

Yeah, it’s been bugging me for quite some time, and it’s still here. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

You don’t even need to be that fast, it just happens really quite often to me, especially to URLs I visit more often

        • Ari

Yeah that’s true. I have been playing with it few minutes ago and it’s really easy to reproduce with visited URLs, like if you have a website with different location like foobar.com .de .es .co.uk

          • Aneta Reluga

Thanks, it’s now being tracked as DNA-57071. What is your OS (both of you) by the way please?

          • Dask

            Win10

          • Ari

thanks for the tracking! I’m on Win8.1 Pro x64

  • Ralf Brinkmann

Why is there no sound? https://www.facebook.com/NICHTLUSTIG/videos/10154668999314994/ I can only hear the sound, when I open this link in a new tab.
    W10x64
    Opera x64

    • Playing fine when I tried it in the beta, looks like a HTML5 video player
      OS X 10.11.6

      What build of W10?

      • Ralf Brinkmann

        14393

Problem: When I click the link above, I also can hear the sound. When I open it in my Facebook account, I can’t. I think, when I open it in a new tab it’s the same as if I click the link above. So It might be diffcult for you to test it.

  • kapsi

    > Changed requirement for Sync password and passphrase to minimum 12 characters for new users.

    Oh f*** you

    • BK

that’s too short, you need to try harder :p

      • Mikolaj Boc

        😀

  • Kai Ockendorf

First thing I’ve noticed is that this version starts freaking fast!! Did you change something, or is it this improvement of the latest Dev build aswell? I also deleted the 32-bit version (kept data) & installed the 64-bit version! Everything looked fine, but now I see this “loading”-circle on the mouse pointer so often!!! What is it?? I mean not only at startup (reported this a while ago), now very random! W10x64, build 14393.187 (1607)

Edit: to change from 32-bit to the 64-bit version…was it the right way to do it??

  • Druszlak

    Strange(r) things:
when I open a page with embedded video (not all of them, but e.g. this one:
    http://wiadomosci.onet.pl/swiat/zloty-sedes-w-nowojorskim-muzeum-kazdy-moze-skorzystac/zx6ghn

led on my webcam is turning on. It’s kind of spooky.

I guess it’s related to newest Win10 Anniversary Update, but happens in Opera and Opera Beta.

    Win10 64-bit, Opera & Opera Beta 32-bit

    • BK

      Hm.. strange indeed!
      Any extensions you are having?
How does Chrome 53 behave on the same page?

      I can’t reproduce, Win 10.

      • Druszlak

The same behaviour with all extensions disabled. Problem doesn’t exist in Chrome and Edge. This bug seems to be hard to track… :/

  • Cobalt

Dear developers, when you do the normal built-in image viewer in the Opera, which will be activated after opening the image in a new tab?

    – With the function “Hand Tool”;
    – With zoom in / out the image under the mouse cursor;
    – With zoom in / out the image using the mouse wheel (no need to hold down the Ctrl key);
    – With zoom in / out the image using the + / Num Plus and – / Num – (no need to press Ctrl++ / Ctrl+Num Plus and Ctrl+- / Ctrl+Num -);
    – With smooth animation during zoom in / out and other cool features;

The image in the center is great, but this is not enough =(
I think for many people it would be a killer feature.

    • Leonardo Gomes

We don’t even know if they will do it.

      • Cobalt

Well, Yes. I would like to hear developer comments on this.

      • Nekomajin43

It would be a killer feature.

  • Juan Vase

What happenned to tooltip in the bottom when hovering bookmarks.

  • Pavel Aleksandrov

I can’t set ‘Open Last Closed Tab’ to Ctrl+Z using the settings in the browser. Where is the file I can edit which stores these settings?

    • Cobalt

      Confirm!

      • Pavel Aleksandrov

I replied to Leonardo above with a fix

    • Leonardo Gomes

I don’t think there is one you can edit.

‘Ctrl Z’ is a system key combination (at least on Windows) so probably this is the reason for you to not be able to set it for other function.

      • Pavel Aleksandrov

That might be the reason why the system reacts the way it does when I enter that combination, however there is nothing wrong with it. I had set it up to work since before the option to enter your own keyboard shortcuts existed, I guess I just have to dig up the settings file where I had to enter it.

EDIT: Close Opera. Open this file (replace USER with your username)
        USERAppDataRoamingOpera SoftwareOpera StablePreferences

and add in the list of Basic Keybindings
        “ReopenLastClosedTab”: [ “Ctrl+Z” ]

Start Opera back up, and you can see this:
        https://www.dropbox.com/s/qoqjrtip2culrll/Screenshot%202016-09-21%2011.07.43.png?dl=0

  • redfox

I still miss some VPN features like:
    1) a keyboard shortcut for switching it on/off
    2) a configurable custom server list (always enable/always disable VPN)
3] an option to disable VPN on all https (secure) sites.

  • Guilherme Bevilaqua Medeiros

“DNA-51595 Deadlock when closing a bubble opened by touch” isn’t fixed in this build

    • BK

Correct., It was causing regressions with some Intel HD graphic cards. Sorry, we will work on a better fix.

  • sgrandin

At https://vivaldi.net/en-US/teamblog/153-snapshot-1-5-604-4-fix-for-html5-audio-and-video-on-windows, the Edit button for comments doesn’t respond. Had to switch to Vivaldi browser to get it.

  • Marko Koivuniemi

Facebook chat seems to work much better in this beta version compared to Developer.

  • ShintoPlasm

iCloud bookmarks don’t sync correctly with Opera, using the iCloud Bookmarks extension via the Chrome store. It looks like more and more extensions are having trouble with the way Opera manages its bookmarks – this extension, as well as others, only “see” the bookmarks saved in the toolbar but can’t see anything in the Unsorted Bookmarks or other bookmarks folders. Would it please be possible to fix this somehow? FVD EverSync also has this problem, and the dev claims that Opera’s APIs have been changed significantly, hence the problems.

    • Most significant change we’ve done in bookmarks is tree structure. Chrome by default has two root nodes [‘Bookmarks bar’, ‘Other bookmarks’]. Opera has [‘Bookmarks bar’, ‘Other bookmarks’, ‘Speed dial’, ‘Trash’, ‘Unsorted bookmarks’, ‘My Folder’]. This could be easily handled by simple loop but as life shows it’s not the case in so called bookmarks managers found in Chrome store.

iCloud bookmarks – uses only hard coded root nodes and doesn’t expect more
EverSync – more complicated logic but also assumes there are only two root nodes
some other extensions from Chrome store – probably same assumption in most cases that only two base root nodes exist

Would it be possible to fix? Yes. This however has to be done by those extension “developers”.

      • ShintoPlasm

Thanks Grzegorz for the helpful clarification.

  • lb

Can someone confirm that McAfee Enterprise blocks Opera since last friday or so? You can’t start it (or open any websites if it still runs) unless you disable Access Protection. Other browsers work, and the issue persists on multiple PCs.

  • Cobalt

Displaying the scale in the address bar

It would be great if Opera could display the scale in the address bar. Something like this: http://jpegshare.net/42/20/4220ec2f25944b1d5ec7c26c13ce9ba0.png.html

If you click on this button, the scale will be reset to 100%.
I think this implementation is even better than in Chrome!
This idea is planned for future versions of Firefox.

Developers, what do you think about this?

    • Leonardo Gomes

Opera used to have something like this but on a different bar.

I really don’t think they would bring it back as I don’t see people using it very often.

  • cicciazzo

bug: when using opera turbo with https sites (ex google) I get error:
“This site can’t provide a secure connection”.

    • BK

      Hi.what country are you in?

      • cicciazzo

Hi, I’m from italy, and at home it works correctly.
It doesn’t work from work offices however.
maybe the proxy is the culprit? how can I help you to resolve this issue?

  • cicciazzo

From time to time (very often in the last hours) the synchronisation get’s lost. Is this a problem of the actual beta, of the synchronisation server or any other problem here on my side?

By the way: This is the reason why I like the sync display in the upper right corner. I hope that you reintroduce it in the next developer version.

  • lordl

This version fails to handle gpu changes, if opera was started with the integrated gpu and then the gpu is switched to discrete nothing renders anymore.

    This is on OSX 10.10.5

  • Vlad T

Transparent menu in settings/news/bookmarks looked better

    • L33t4opera

Hi Vlad, go to opera:flags#no-theme-in-start-page-views, select “Disabled” from the drop-down, and press “Relaunch Now”.

      • Vlad T

        Thanks a lot! 🙂

  • Junaid Ahmed

Heard Google Chrome started war against fake download buttons. Hope Opera will get that feature in the near future too.

  • Vlad T

Hi, it would be great if Opera have auto-hide address-bar and tabs option.

  • Andrew

Hi, there is an issue with scaling on Windows 10. It’s just constantly zoomed in. If i change the scaling using windows’ control panel, it goes back to normal. However, if i move the window to another monitor, or maximize/minimize/restore the window, it defaults back to being zoomed in.

  • ive

When I go to my bookmark bar, open a folder, rightclick a bookmark and then press v (shortcut for delete) Opera crashes. If I click instead of pressing v it works as expected.
    Can anyone confirm that?

  • L33t4opera

The Opera 41.0.2353.10 has been promoted to the beta channel 😉

    • Ralf Brinkmann

I am waiting for the discussion page …
