Hi,

Yesterday we celebrated an Armed Forces Day in Poland. That’s why our weekly update on developer stream is on Tuesday. What we’ve got?

  • Bug fixes: navigation after preview, transparent header
  • Web feeds improvements, especially parsing of images
  • Incremental search results (especially useful when entering the address of page with several web feeds)

There are more fixes included. Please check out full changelog for details.

Known issues

VPN – there are some issues with service availability, so you’ll notice that there is never-ending ‘Connecting’ status displayed. Our developers are already working on it.

vpn not working. It keeps saying ‘connecting…’

    • Leonardo Gomes

Did you read the post? 🙂 Doesn’t seem to have a high priority to be fixed.

  • andy-drew

May I ask at what point is the development of Windows x64 version?

    • Leonardo Gomes

Most probably at the same point of the 32 bits version.

      • Marcin Mitek

Yup, sorry for the inconvenience, we are not able to deliver them for quite long… but we have to deal with the problems related with building x64 Opera first.

        • andy-drew

          Thanks 🙂

  • alexSuper

    What’s happening in the background?

    • Vux777

what do you mean “in the background”?

      • Nekomajin43

I mean no words about it in the posts, but it’s WP3 now, so it must be a bigger change.

        • Vux777

          ah…
I think it started in last dev build (or one before it)
this flag will make extension page part of bookmarks-history-SD-tabs-news-downloads frame (soft transition between then on webUI)

On the two most recent downloads (Opera Beta and Opera Developer) Norton Security Suite flags the Opera-installer as a high threat. Category: Resolved Security Risks

    Never have seen this before.

    • Kurt Zon

      yeah—-i got that too 🙁

    • Also got this (type of) message reported by Norman (BitDefender under the hood). (64-bit Win-10)
Already some time ago I reported this to either Norman or to Opera, not sure any more. But probably Norman because from Opera I always get a reply on bug submission.
Surprised that it is still there. (I marked this locally as a false positive. But if it is still a problem I should not ‘unmark’ it 😉 )
      Regards, a3ano

    • Kornelia

I will report your problem to the security team. Thanks for the heads up.

    • Kornelia

This is a false positive on the part of your AV scanner. We will contact the vendor of that product, and inform them of the mistake.

      • Chawoobie

        Thanks, Kornelia!

  • iYuzver

Doesn’t update news for sources with rss. Make an opportunity to update in manual and to set an updating interval.

    • Known issue, we’re working on it.

  • Mateusz Romanowski

Still without x64 for Windows? 🙁

    • Kornelia

Sorry for that. I can only ask you for more patience.

  • Tero Dev

Do you have any ETA for paid VPN plan support?

  • pureocean

    Dear Opera Developers,

As i mentioned a few months ago, I’ve been using Opera’s version 39.0.2234. Why am I using old version? Because this last version is support GDI font rendering (the “#disable-direct-write” flag).

Many based-Chromium browsers did impressed by removing Disable DirectWrite. just as I guessed, many users has been react to this revert. If you can take a peek to Google-Opera-Vivaldi forums, you should read out there which it’s negative comments and “bring back to Disable DirectWrite” requests.

Neither Google nor Neither nor Vivaldi care about requests, complaints by users.

I discovered new a Chromium-based web browser in the yesterday: CentBrowser. In this browser “added back disabling Direct Write”. I’m so happy. it’s not just that for good. The Browser contains many useful features. if I were you, I would examine thoroughly, analyse thorough the CentBrowser. Certainly, this browser’s features could inspire to you all.

While Chrome-Opera-Vivaldi’s developers didn’t listen user request, the one person freelance programmer can listen demands of users and implements its. And consequently which shows that it’s possible be able to producing more useful features than standart Chromium browser.

  • Ralf Brinkmann

    Two problems:

    1. This page here always forgets my disqus login. In my settings I have blocked all third party cookies and website data, but in the exceptions I find “http://disqus.com:80”. What does that mean? I have added Disqus there, but I did not add the “:80”. I did not change anything there in the last months manually.

    2. Opera still or again does not remember the last position of a web page, when I reload it. I always put the grey menu bar of http://www.queen-mary-2.de/webcam/ on top of the visible screen. After reloading the page it is scrolled down, I see the original top of the page.

    Dear Opera Developers,

Some time ago it has come to my attention that Opera is repeatedly trying to establish connections with strange hosts. I couldn’t confirm their affiliation with Opera (at least most of them, although their addresses fall into the same address space as Opera VPN servers), however, odd destination ports raised my suspicion. Connection attempts occur in regular intervals.

It appears that Opera is trying to reach these hosts on TCP port 8181 and via SSH. I can’t find a reason why a web browser would try to establish an SSH connection with remote host, could you please shed some light on this situation? I can’t provide packet trace (I’ve tried Microsoft Message Analyzer but it seems it can’t handle traffic blocked by Windows Firewall at the time).

Here’s a chunk of a list of blocked connection attempts: http://pastebin.com/raw/4PgNShjw

I know that’s not the case but just to be sure I scanned Opera binary for possible infections: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/24e00adc90c801cd3e915f8df88298ea2a90072b82d2f76e5508395b02abedf6/analysis/

I’m happy to answer if you have any questions and I look forward to hearing from you about this issue

    • PaulW

You don’t have an NEC PBX system inhouse do you?? They use port 8181 for 3rd party CTI calling and shared directorys etc..

    • Leonardo Gomes

      Do you have VPN enabled?

      • ash44493

Positive, but Opera VPN service is merely a HTTPS proxy it should not generate this kind of traffic.

        • Leonardo Gomes

I just meant that those addresses seems to be of Opera’s VPN server.

Do you have any extensions? Many bookmarks? How many opened tabs?

  • Vux777

for those who want old backspace behavior (go back in history)
Google made an extension for it
    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/go-back-with-backspace/eekailopagacbcdloonjhbiecobagjci

I know it’s OT, but many ppl complained about this…..

btw. you need Download chrome extension to install extensions from google web store

    • Matheus Bombonato

      Thank you!

    • Vux777

when you click on address bar, it shows tiles with most visited sites (or it should)

Hi, here is another one: Opera doesn’t keep the exact scroll position on the open website when hitting F5. Instead of this, Opera sets vertical scroll position to the top of the website.

    • Cobalt

    • Leonardo Gomes

      Same in Chrome.

    How about this feature: http://jpegshare.net/27/8e/278e25932e6587287dd2a58a10d26b3e.png.html

How long to wait for this useful feature in your browser???

    • Kamen Minkov

Maybe check again two years from now.

  • ShintoPlasm

This is a bit off-topic, but I have been trying to get Google’s ‘Office Editing’ extension to work in Opera via the Download Chrome Extension add-on. That add-on’s dev, “theprovider”, claims that this extension can’t work in Opera because the browser doesn’t enable the streamsPrivate API. A similar concern has been voiced by at least one other developer I know of (Rob Wu), and I’ve been wondering: why isn’t this API enabled in Opera? And would it perhaps be possible to enable it?

    • Rafał Chłodnicki

In chromium, this API has a short list of whitelisted extensions that are allowed to use it. Office Editing being one of them. We haven’t enabled that whitelist in our code though. I don’t think there is any good reason for that so we’ll fix that.

      • Rafał Chłodnicki

Although this extension also depends on a couple of other things like chrome.fileSystem, chrome.identity and chrome.metricsPrivate APIs and those are less likely to be enabled in Opera (at least last two)…
Also it bundles native client binaries and that will definitively not be supported.

        • ShintoPlasm

Cool, thanks for your reply and for explaining matters!

  • Over last month or two I experiencing Opera crash when trying to detach some tab to separate window. Not every time but almost every day I experiencing that at least once. Mostly while watching Youtube and trying to detach tab to read it in parallel.
    // Gentoo Linux ~amd64.

  • iYuzver

I have ceased to use the built-in blocker of advertizing. He inefficient. He badly cleans advertizing and does not clean advertizing space fillers at all. I wait for will be when it is debugged, but judging, on everything developers are busy with other things for a long time.

Not working Shift+Middle mouse button on the tile of Speed Dial (Like in Firefox, Chrome & Vivaldi)

Actual result: Bookmark still opens in the background tab: http://jpegshare.net/3e/01/3e0167f49d921697e43a77db04ef1892.jpg.html

Expected result: Bookmark should open in the foreground (Like in Firefox, Chrome & Vivaldi =))

    • Rafał Chłodnicki

Ctrl+Shift+Left click works but we’ll make Shift+Middle work too.

      • Cobalt

        Thanks!

Does Opera now take control of media keys? They don’t see to work any more when Opera is in “focus”

    • NoName

      I don’t have that problem on Win10

      • mb

It seem to have sorted itself after the latest Insider build came through. Was the oddest thing, only with Opera media keys would stop working.

    hello .
chromecast dont works … you have a solution ? thanks

  • Marcos Jacoby

I use a long time ago and in this version I simply couldn’t see videos on youtube because claims that flash it’s outdated and this occurs only on the developer version 41.0.2323.0, not in the earliers, not in the beta and stable versions installed, Chrome, Chromium, Vivaldi, Firefox and Palemoon (yes, I use all of them).
    I use in Zorin OS 11, a.k.a. as spin-off Ubuntu 15.10 Wily.
Any ideas, suggestions or need a new version to correct this bug?

  • Ralf Brinkmann

I have just installed the new beta 40.0.2308.15 for comparing reasons, because this developer was so slow and jerky on my computer (same folder, profile and settings). And I must say the beta is really much faster in scrolling and rendering pages. And VPN works in the beta. So I think this developer is worse than the versions before. I hope the new edition on monday will be better.
And I hope you finally can give me a download manager page that can be handled by keyboard!

  • L33t4opera

    New build – Opera developer 41.0.2329.0 😉
The change log, and the announcement.

    • SiMcarD

It gives me a fatal error on installation.

      • Кostadin

        OK here.

        • SiMcarD

          I see there’s also a patch file
          “Opera_Developer_41.0.2329.0-41.0.2323.0_Patch.exe”
Does anyone knows what is this?

          • L33t4opera

It seems to be used by the auto-update process.

      • L33t4opera

Hi @disqus_PYrrTAyTfk:disqus, seems to work here without issues on Windows 7, though I didn’t tried to install it on Windows 10 so far. Did you check if the md5 checksum for this file is correct? If it’s not, then maybe try to download the installer file again.

  • Still not working for me. Nothing loads either. Not even the help pages. Writing this from Chrome.

    • Leonardo Gomes

      What about developer 43?

      • Yup, running latest version, all up to date (43.0.2420.0) … browser works great as soon as I turn off VPN. No extensions installed. Win10 up to date (fresh install a month or so ago), uptodate AV, just did a full scan last night, other software uptodate via Secunia.

        • Leonardo Gomes

And you posted your comment in an Opera developer 41 post because….?

          • Because I’m a numb nut that got confused

3 or 4 recent downloads are being blocked by AVG Antivirus.

    Windows 7 64-bit,
    AVG Free

It wasn’t like that before so I guess something has changed recently in auto updater.
