  • PlonPlon

I’m confused… Is this a Beta or a new Stable?

    • Wando Schneider

      Beta.

      • PlonPlon

        Thank you!

    • Leonardo Gomes

It’s a beta but also a stable rc.

  • Spideymang

Thank you for the update news Kornelia, have a great weekday.

  • ParakeetTurd

Is there a place where I can read about the specific bugs? For example, I want to know more about:

DNA-47504 Adjust pdf viewer styles after chromium intake

Couldn’t find anything more by just googling and such…
    Thanks ~

    • Leonardo Gomes

As the bug tracking system is not public, i guess you will not find more info unless someone from Opera discloses something.

    • Wando Schneider

Out of curiosity: What you want to know?

      • ParakeetTurd

I’ve been having this issue on Win 8.1 Pro that the Opera PDF viewer is badly scaled. For example, in a long pdf, if I scroll all the way down, there’s ~ 15% “extra empty length.” Also, when I search for words in the pdf, the locations it jumps to are way off deeper into the document.

        • Wando Schneider

Do you have a example that i can use to try reproduce?

          • ParakeetTurd

When I go to this pdf:
            http://wj32.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Introduction-to-Smooth-Manifolds.pdf
I search for “Lie Group” – the search results don’t jump to the right places. Also, the extra length after scrolling to the end is more noticable since the pdf is long.

I don’t have this issue on my Lubuntu netbook, only on Windows 8.1 funny enough.

          • Wando Schneider

            Working fine here (W10 x64)

          • ParakeetTurd

Again, it seems to be a Windows 8.1 issue. (I’m on 8.1 Pro). My friend has the exact same problem with Opera’s PDF viewer on Windows 8.1. I just checked this same website on their laptop.

  • xirit64

What about DNA-49146 (speech input in https://translate.google.com/) shouldn’t it at least be working in the stable (the official) browser?

    • Aneta Reluga

We are unable at the moment to support speech recognition, also I don’t have any ETA when we would be able to do so. ๐Ÿ™ The ticket is still open with no proposed solution as of yet.

      • xirit64

Right, I thought this was universally supported in every chromium based browser (listed as “Prefixed Speech recognition” in html5test.com), I guess I have to rely on Chrome for some time :/
        Oh well ๐Ÿ™‚

      • https://vivaldi.net/unity/profile/chas4/6-blog Chas4

Would it work using the OS that Opera is on for speech input?

  • Rafael

For me this beta release stable 36 is just perfect is one of the best versions that Opera Software has released’m seriously considering leaving my Google Chrome that is slow and outdated and switch to Opera version 36 final, but I’m still waiting for release of the stable channel to change my default browser by Opera. Congratulations to all developers who are doing an excellent job.

    • ะฎะปะธั

They drop support for XP and Vista starting with 37, but will still support 36 with security updates (if I remember correctly?), hence the higher-than-usual level of polish, especially once painted red ๐Ÿ˜‰

      • Rafael

Yes. Currently I am using Windows 10 Home on my laptop with 64-bit and am actually thinking about changing my Google Chrome for Opera after leaving the version 36 stable.

        • Mikolaj Boc

Well, good choice! I personally believe this is the best browser for Win10, no corpo talk, just my personal opinion.

          • Rafael

Yes Mikolak I believe it also. Google Chrome has been a good browser more now it is just terrible, has few changes in Chrome mostly visual changes and each new version is getting heavier and worse. As you exit the Opera 36 browser stable mute, you can tell me when the stable version 36 will be available?

          • Wando Schneider

I think it’ll be released probably next week, since this is a Stable RC.

          • Rafael

Thank you very much for this information. I’ll keep an eye on the release of 36 stable.

          • Wando Schneider

It’s more a guess based on my experience than a information ;D

          • Rafael

            Thanks

  • pidgin

please get rid of the loading cursor when starting up browser

  • http://vk.com/hartkor hArtKor

When I disable “DirectWrite” I can’t reach bookmarks page from the main screen, only by the opera:bookmarks adress. ๐Ÿ™

  • Josรฉ Alberto

When are you gonna put a button to stop the autoupdate?

    • Leonardo Gomes

      I don’t think they will.

  • Ralf Brinkmann

Still not fixed: Endless scrolling through pages by “Space” key with rel Link Pager is only possible with the new Windows 10 theme, not with the old Opera theme. Opera does not provide its own solution as in Opera 12. Try to google for a common term like “Bruce Springsteen” and then start scrolling through the results from page to page only by keyboard. On page 3 or 4 it will stop.

  • Ralf Brinkmann
    • Nekomajin43

      Bookmarks

      • Ralf Brinkmann

No, the word is “speed dial”. Where did you find it in the help file => backups?

        • Nekomajin43

          Speed dial links or images?

          • Ralf Brinkmann

Everything. There is not one word about speed dials and how to save and restore them in this part of the help file.

          • Nekomajin43

This is true. But speed dials are parts of bookmarks. They are stored in the Bookmarks file.

          • Ralf Brinkmann

Ok, this is good to know and you know it, because you are a “professional” Opera user. But new users would search this term in vain. There is not one folder which contains all these backup files, what would make it easier to transfer these setting files from one Opera installation to another one.

          • Nekomajin43

            That is true.

  • Ralf Brinkmann

The settings icon (tool icon) for Social Fixer for Facebook is not longer visible here, so I don’t have access to the settings. I found this out today in this beta and also in the actual developer. Does anybody else have this problem or is it only me?

  • https://vivaldi.net/unity/profile/chas4/6-blog Chas4

When on speeddial and you click on the open tabs button on the right, the tabs display gets stuck, and does not close if you click on tabs again or news or speeddial (it might get unstuck about 7 minutes later)

    OS X 10.11.3

Also Top Stories text might get garbled if you go through the options on the right a few times (it affects the other news categories also)

  • https://vivaldi.net/unity/profile/chas4/6-blog Chas4

yahooo is calling Opera Chrome and gives a big splash ad for an extension on

When reporting a bug you should provide a description of it and the steps to reproduce as well as your OS.

      Btw, everything seems ok here.

      • Vlad

        Click PLAY on video ,-)
        Version: 35.0.2066.92 (Stable)
OS: Windows 7 (x64) โ€“ It is visible on the screenshots!
And yes, I provided the steps to reproduce it.

        • Leonardo Gomes

I have already done it and the video played fine like i said. I’m on Windows 10.

And no, your OS is not visible on the screenshot and you did not provide any steps to reproduce.
You just posted a couple of screenshots without saying anything to try to help people understand what you are trying to say.

Hi Vlad. Just out of curiosity, what do you change in the settings that often? Maybe we can make your life much easier in a smart way.

      • Vlad

It is silly to duplicate the settings on the “Basic” page for housewives. Opera was always a browser for advanced and smart users! Please do not turn it into the Chrome =(

  • Vlad
    • Leonardo Gomes

Or you can just use F11.

      • Vlad

        I know! ๐Ÿ˜‰ LOL!!! xD

Installed betas are apparently not being cleared from Windows 8.1 during updates. My programs folder shows only the current 36, but both in Control Panel and Revo Pro 33 and two versions of 34 show. Don’t see anything in App Data > Roaming, so something being left in the registry?

The onscreen keyboard does not come up, even in tablet mode and with “force touch” enabled. Using a Surface Pro 3 with W10. Anyone else getting this?

    • Julian Bozhilov

Same problem with my Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 with Windows 8.1 . The onscreen keyboard does not come up, when I touch text field.

The very reason I stopped using chrome and switched to opera has now become the engine for opera. After being a dedicated opera user for nearly 3 years I am very sorry to say this is were i must leave and find another new browser. This constantly wanting people to stay logged in and share every single thought and account is the same very nonsense that has cost Chrome so many of it’s long time users. When I close a browser I want it wiped clean, no saved passwords, no social media links, and no shared everything with the next account I log in. I have 19 different emails that separate my work, from my personal life, from my gaming life, from my entertainment life. there are different contacts in each one and some do not need to know who the others are and none of this needs to be merged or shared, even accidentally. thank you for 3 good years, sorry to see you have ruined opera. the google way is not the answer. Be your own browser like you were when I first came and you will get me and several others you are bound to lose back. The 2 level log in and checkbox that tells you to “keep this checked for your convenience” is a huge fatal security issue and having been a computer tech for many many years I have seen the grief this can cause to those not really paying attention to what they are doing and is the kind of thing google feeds on and now evidently so does opera. This also creates problems for anyone using programs like keepass and other password login safes, which I will not run without as 128 bit encrypted passwords are just too hard to memorize for 19 different email accounts. goodbye, I hope you come to your senses soon.

    • BK

Hi Jon. Have you not mixed the browser with webpages?
Opera does not push synchronization like Chrome does. Also you can easily set up Opera in settings to wipe out everything when you close the browser.
If you want separate instances, you can install Opera in USB mode. Each installation will have nothing to do with the other.

      • John

Ok just to get us on the same page and in layman’s words, -yes I have used the usb version many times in the past and am well aware of all of operas features and settings but the thing is, it was almost two years ago when google changed its gmail login page to its current scheme of having one viewable blank for the user-name upon its open instead of the two normal ones for login and password. this is the way it has been in IE10-11, firefox and also chrome itself. (im not even going to get into issues with edge now that there is a way to fully remove it.) up until this update the opera engine ignored all of those changes. now that they are closer to the same engine revision, it acts just like chrome and all the other browsers anywhere else. now for the layman, this completely stops key safes like kee pass and last pass running at installed defaults unless you use a custom login config which is not a problem for me but for the average user it’s an issue. The day the change came I started getting calls at my shop right away from people not knowing or understanding why or how to make their key safes work. then theres the trick (checkbox) of trying to keep everyone logged in all the time. if you do not uncheck that box at login , it ignores and overrides any opera settings and acts just like chrome.
the theres the loading speed issues which have never been a problem. some pages, possibly because of the html 5 code or certain players, and for whatever reason now take a bit of time to load that were not a problem before. if you go through the list below you will see other things that users are having problems with and these are the same complaints i hear from my customers and friends. I have about 10 comps at my workshop, and its a fiber fed business tier webfeed so webspeed is insane here so its not a web issue. my main comp is a watercooled 8 core with 32 gb of ram and a pcie solid state drive. I do operating system testing and other coding and also editing on this machine daily. so i am usually in 2 or more new clean installed operating systems a week so I have ruled out any of windows or browser upgrade issues as I have already tried this on clean installs of win 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 with or without any antivirus or malware or adblockers. bottom line, since the changes, its acting more like chrome, over riding its own settings, having loading issues on some pages and defaulting to the new 1 box at a time style of login on gmail and a few other sites. basically its doing all the same quirky things I left chrome for. I and several others I know were dedicated chrome users for years. as they started changing to the way it is today most chrome users have switched to opera a lot of whom I recommended it to and now opera is slowly becoming just like chrome. time to move on. simple as that. at one time to me opera was the best, now it has become questionable at best. seems like more systems are following the google way of doing things and everyone has their own choices and preferences. I will be watching but it is not my browser of choice anymore.

        • Jaiba Mon

I have to say, that this is more an issue of how Google detects browsers, not by Opera itself. I recommend you to look for an user agent string changer extension, and change the user agent of Opera to another one, until the gmail login changes.

          • John

Agreed and that would work fine for the more tech savvy like you or I but the average joe would be lost and its my customers that I have to look out for in the end. Simplicity, user familiarity and consistency are the key factors. The fact remains, opera changed drastically overnight and now a lot of things don’t work they way they used to or at all. i can usually find a workaround for anything but that don’t stop people from blowing up my phone since they don’t understand why and feel they don’t need to. Bottom line, opera is not my recommended browser anymore, which sucks because a lot of us liked it the way it was.
