Hi Aneta, thanks for the article, and update 😉

Just in case, that some of the users are interested in new flags, added in previous version .2114.0 (since last build for Linux .2106.0):
    – opera:flags#start-page-web-ui-components
Enables WebUI components in the start page.

    – opera:flags#turbo-for-news-on-startpage
Enables use of turbo to load news opened from start page when poor network conditions are detected.

    – opera:flags#enable-use-zoom-for-dsf
If enabled, Blink uses its zooming mechanism to scale content for device scale factor.

    – opera:flags#merge-key-char-events (Windows)
If disabled, Opera will handle WM_KEY* and WM_CHAR separately.

    – opera:flags#enable-ppapi-win32k-lockdown (Windows)
Specify the PPAPI plug-ins which will be run within the Win32k lockdown sandbox policy.

    – opera:flags#enable-appcontainer (Windows)
Enables the use of an AppContainer on sandboxed processes to improve security.

    – opera:flags#enable-experimental-framework
Enables the Experimental Framework for controlling access to API experiments.

What does Opera Freedom feature do?

      • Kev87

Its a very misterious thing and asked before, but the devs don’t seem to respond.

        • Mikolaj Boc

And its mystery is only exceeded by its power!

      • L33t4opera

Hi, I’m sorry, I made mistake, this flag was added in previous version (.2114.0), but has been removed in this build (.2120.0).

  • tarkus

Hooray!!! ‘tab’ menu not loading solved!
I believe that extensions, settings, downloads & everything else (tools, help etc.) must move to the ‘start page’ and the start page must be renamed ‘contol panel’ because it is much more than a start page!
The thing is: Opera is a real beauty, I can’t get enough of it!

  • Dave-H

Still crashing for me when sync is enabled. 🙁
This happens even with the internet connection disabled, so is presumably nothing to do with anything that’s being downloaded.
HTML5 video controls are still not right too.

    • tarkus

I’m always synchronized and I have no problem!

      • Dave-H

I only first tried to use sync after I’d saved my Opera 12 data to the system just before Opera Link closed. Up until then I’d been using a manual import of the Opera 12 bookmarks.
The first time I ever enabled sync the browser just crashed, and has been doing that ever since. I suspect it’s some sort of conflict with what’s already there in the bookmarks, but whatever it is it should be able to handle it, not just repeatedly crash until it permanently shuts down!

        • tarkus

          If you go to
          https://auth.opera.com/account/login?service=sync&return_url=https://sync.opera.com/web/
what do you see? Can you fix anything from there?

          • Dave-H

I have there 743 Bookmarks, 423 Passwords, 1 Device, 73 History items, and 26 Preferences items. Some are editable, some are not. It all looks as I would expect, I can’t see that anything is corrupted or anything. What actually happens if I press the “Reset sync data” button?

          • tarkus

I believe that everything is zeroed!
PS Zeroed on the server, not in your computer – if you afterwards activate sync, whatever is in your computer goes to the server as your new syncing data. That’s how I erased my double/triple bookmarks.

          • Dave-H

Thanks. I probably won’t do that then, as I don’t want to lose what’s on the server! I’m more concerned that Opera isn’t handling whatever the problem is, and is just immediately and repeatedly crashing!

  • Ralf Brinkmann

For me one of the most important things: I can again delete the list of all downloaded files by keyboard. The “exe” subfolder problem in the downolad folder is still there, or must I change any setting?
The autofill bug is also still there (known issue).
    More will follow.

    • Aneta Reluga

As for the exe subfolder – it is a part of a feature in progress, and it may stay this way for some time.

      • Ralf Brinkmann

Yes, you said this before and I thought it will be finished now. Call me when it’s over. It really drives me crazy.

        • Aneta Reluga

I’ll prepare a banner written in the uncial minuscule. 🙂
But seriously, the feature is rather huge and I really would rather not even mention it at this stage were it not for the complaints regarding the additional folder.

  • Vlad Violenty

may be you add button “Downloads” at left menu on start page.

    http://prntscr.com/9vfa1z – at here

    • Aneta Reluga

Thanks. This suggestion already appeared here and there, and is on the (longer and longer) list of suggestions and improvements to consider.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/max1cp?feature=mhum Maxim

You guys finally merged bookmarks into a single menu option but still didn’t do it for extensions?

    • Aneta Reluga

You are right in terms of menu simplicity. We are thinking on some other menu improvements, but not just now.

  • Olli

Why did you remove the #osx-share-button flag? I don’t need a share button, please bring it back! I already enjoyed not having any button next to the address bar on the right after you made it possible to remove the sync button and now this…

And why is the news button still visible in speed dial when I disabled news in the flags?

    • Leonardo Gomes

Why did you remove the #osx-share-button flag?

Flags are removed when the experiment ends.

  • malina53

maybe i’m strange but wouldn’t it make more sense to move the bookmark menu here.. http://i.imgur.com/LFLDuUE.png . It doesn’t take much space and allows a direct access to the bookmark dropdown.

Will the sidebar toggle edge ever be implemented? Now accessing the sidebar is pretty cumbersome.

  • Sierra

Nice improvements in win 10 skin. Now, there are separate settings for force touch interface and show system color on top bar.

  • Freddy

The browser is crashing consistently on this page: https://twitter.com/pianoimproman

Scroll down and it will eventually happen. Might be due to all the Vine videos. Chrome and Firefox don’t crash, however. I have flash disabled.

Some bugs are still present too:

    1. When you open the Bookmarks and History pages from the Opera menu, you can’t click the left icons (column just flashes).
    2. When in full screen mode, the hover of the caption buttons overlap the toolbar if the “Disable tab bar’s top spacing when browser window is maximized” preference is checked in the settings (when using the Windows 10 theme).
    3. The context menu of the Speed Dial, Bookmarks, Tabs and History pages still has the old Windows 7 look, unlike the context menu of web pages.
    4. The find bar close button is not using the same style as the tab close button (Windows 10 theme).

When are you adding smooth scrolling as an option in the settings? It currently works fine by using the flag (–enable-smooth-scrolling).

    • Ralf Brinkmann

Crash confirmed for W10x64 (with 32 GB RAM), if I scroll too much down. Then too many videos open at the same time. I found this bug on similar pages too.

      • Freddy

Yes, I’m also using Windows 10 (Pro x64). I wonder why the whole browser crashes instead of just the tab.

        • Ralf Brinkmann

Oh yes, I forgot to mention this. The whole browser freezes and can not be resurrected.

          • Aneta Reluga

Uh. If that’s a freeze then it’s a different story; we probably won’t get any stacktrace for that if no explicit crash happened.
            Anyway, I’m logging it.

          • Freddy

Yeah, the whole browser window freezes. It doesn’t recover and has to be closed. It’s not a tab crash (but shouldn’t it be?).

          • Aneta Reluga

Well, as a QA I have mixed feelings here. 🙂 I mean, I love it when I find out about some juicy crash, but I love it even more when it gets fixed. So, in the end, I’d prefer to have no crash whatsoever.
Ok, but seriously. It’s now being reported internally. DNA-48864 for the record.

          • Tommy Wille

Does it freeze with Hardware Acceleration disabled?

          • Freddy

With hardware acceleration disabled the page becomes unresponsive (can’t scroll or do anything on the page) but the browser does not freeze or crash. Only the tab freezes, and I can close it fine.

          • Ralf Brinkmann

Crash? Freeze? The tab changes it’s appearance and looks like a separate window. The Windows crash circle appears and circles and circles and doesn’t stop. It’s not possible to go to any other tab. The whole Opera has to be closed and after restarting you have to be very quick to close that tab before you have the same problem again.

          • Tommy Wille

Ralf, try disabling Hardware Acceleration and report back. Remember to restart browser.

          • Ralf Brinkmann

Good advice! I can scroll down much further and the tab does not freeze so fast. And then at the end only this one tab is stopping and can be closed.

        • Aneta Reluga

For a moment I thought it was a known issue, but seems it is a different one. The Twitter page does not crash for me at all on my Win7. We’ll try with Win10.
In the meantime, if you feel like helping a bit, you might do the following:
          1) Go to the advanced computer settings in Win10 and get to the section with environment variables (I’m vague here, but I don’t have Win10 ATM to provide exact steps);
          2) Add the following variable: OPERA_CRASH_EMAIL with value: {any value you wish, e.g. myaccount@myprovider.com};
          3) Try to crash Opera;
          4) Let us know about the email used (optional).

Note that you don’t have to use your primary address – it is enough to use a secondary one. You will be sent the crash stacktrace info to that address, and you might just provide the link to us.

    • Leonardo Gomes

      IIRC number 2 is known.

      • Tommy Wille

        Yep!

    • RafaellaG

I have flash enabled. Crashed too. Win 10 / 64 bit.
No automatic restart. You have to close /reopen Opera manually.

Edit: Oops, saw the comments below to late

    • Leonardo Gomes

It took a while but i managed to get Opera crashing on that page too.

    • Victoria

I’ve had a number of freezes with media heavy Twitter feeds and some video sites since TH2 got on my laptop. I’ve updated my graphics card and fixed other issues but this one persists, only less active than it had been. I’ve seen a forum above about it so it’s been a fairly consistent issue. I have to stop the entire process in the task manager to close Opera Next and then restart it.

  • pierogi

Good job guys! Love the new Opera. But how to disable warning of opening more than 10 tabs? “Do you really you want to open 10 items?” I do not like this. My computer is fast enough to open more than 50 tabs.

    • Tommy Wille

Aneta is pursuing it. 🙂 Been complained about before, and I agree! Tiresome over time.

      • Aneta Reluga

        OMG, you remember! 😉
Yes, indeed this is being logged to the database, but with no ETA set. There are two possible ways to implement it; the better one is also much more effort-consuming.

        • pierogi

Thank you for considering. I hope to see it in the future.

  • Marko Koivuniemi

I noticed nice little bug in this version – at least in OS X 10.11. I have 4 windows and one of them has my active Facebook -session in top. I got facebook message and Tabs name changes (‘Facebook’ ‘Friend messaged to you’) in Window – menu and because of that it constantly changes location in this alphabet ordered list. And this switch is quite fast so often I cannot change to right window. Quite annoying.

  • Sierra

Color of icons on bookmarks bar
After upgrading from previous build http://i.imgur.com/dRhFI8c.png
Fresh installation, some of them are black, some are gray http://i.imgur.com/eTLA4Tb.png
Maybe it is better to keep gray.

    • Vux777

I think they just put invert effect on those light/gray to differentiate from light background…
but it doesn’t look good… it should be separate set of icons for different situations

      • Aneta Reluga

        Thanks. Internal DNA-48867

  • Nekomajin43

How about merging the items related to extensions in the main menu?

    • Aneta Reluga

To tell the truth, we are thinking of menu improvements, this one being among them. Not just now though.

      • Nekomajin43

Well, I have some suggestions regarding menus in general. I think this whole hierarchic structure is outdated and uncomfortable to use. The good way what Firefox does. We have large screens now, so we can have a bigger menu with icons instead of text labels.

For example, imagine the main menu as a wider dropdown with expandable sections! One have to click on a top-level icon to expand its content (for example the “page” menu and its submenu) instead of moving the mouse in a thin line to open the submenu. It is easier to recognise icons in a well-aligned grid than text if you have many items. But you can have text labels too under the icons. And it is easier to use it with a mouse because you don’t have to aim precisely, but much more easier to use with a touchscreen than the current solution.

Of course, it should be applied to the context menus as well.

        • Aneta Reluga

          I forwarded your suggestions, thanks!

        • NimeshT

Liked the FFs implementation of cascaded menus (help menu and site badge) with the whole menu view getting replaced with the child menu

        • xirit64

To be honest I find FF’s way too “kitsch” and its general design amateurish at best. This is classic and slim at the same time.

          • Nekomajin43

            Why is slim good?

          • xirit64

Because otherwise it is weighted 🙂

      • xirit64

On the contrary in my opinion “Get extensions” has to stay there for easy access and the other items deserve their own entry in the menu as well.

        Sidebar
        Extension Manager
        Get Extensions

        • Nekomajin43

If we can add the extension manager to the navbar on the start page, you will naver have to use the main menu. And if you visit the addon catalog frequently, you can add it to the speed dial.

          • xirit64

The extension manager has no place in the Speed Dial but it is nice to access it directly in the menu and not having to hover over a 2nd menu.

          • Nekomajin43

“If we can add the extension manager to the _navbar_ on the start page…”

          • xirit64

yes, when talking about the Speed Dial this is included. The navbar is in the Speed Dial (page) or the “Start Page” (as some devs recently are calling it)

          • Nekomajin43

So why does it have no space on the start page?

  • Dave-H

I don’t know if this is new, or indeed already known, but there’s a terrible mess at the top when I scroll on any of the bookmarks manager pages!

    • Vux777

      here too, win 10 x64

      • Dave-H

        Glad it’s not just me!
I take it this is a new problem, as I’ve not seen it mentioned before, but it looks like something pretty fundamental has gone wrong there!

        • Aneta Reluga

Either I have too few bookmarks, or it’ yet another Win10 issue (I’m on Win7 and unable to repro as of yet). Can you please post a screenshot tomorrow? Thanks in advance!

          • Dave-H

It’s not a Windows 10 problem as I’m on Windows XP!
            See here – https://www.dropbox.com/s/a8levr6sfosapip/OperaBookmarksManagerProblem.jpg?dl=0

          • Vux777

sry, it doesn’t look that way on my side (regarding my previous confirmation)
            it’s like @RafaellaG wrote

          • Dave-H

What happens for me is that when I start scrolling, the header at the top starts jittering up and down, and eventually it disappears, leaving just a remnant of it with the list superimposed over it, as shown in the screen grab.
It happens whether the list is shown as in the screen grab, or as icons.

          • RafaellaG

If you scroll down everything seems ok. But when you scroll up again the bookmark items don’t vanish “under” the top line but overlay with the line and the items above.

Happened only once. After reload of the bookmark page it happened not again. But the top (with path etc.) now scrolls with the items on scroll down).

            I’m on Win 10 / 64 bit

  • xirit64

You’ve moved the tiles a bit downwards, that’s more than welcomed 🙂

My only issue is the universal zooming scale in SD and Bookmarks. As I have many (tree) folders in Bookmarks, 90% zooming is perfect since
    a) the size of the fonts in the tree is the same as in the O-menu, and I don’t need them to take unnecessary space (height) -as with 100% and its unnecessary big fonts-
    b) with 90% I have 7 rows of visual bookmarks, and since bookmarks is usually for archiving reasons and for occasionally visiting them, the need of huge tiles is not that justified. I would like to keep Bookmarks at 90% and Speed Dial at 100% (also 7 rows), because they are of different use.

At least if it is not possible to make the fonts and tiles smaller in Bookmarks at 100% to match the 90% aesthetic, then it would be nice to have an option to counter it on the SD, in other words an option to choose font and tile size.

  • patkoscsaba

Are there any ways to add my own news/feed sources? Opera detected some of the sites I read frequently (like gizmodo, nytimess, bbc, etc) but missed some of the others (like sammobile.com, etc).
So, if I could add any of my own RSS feeds, or whatever protocol News uses, it would be great.
I need to also mix several languages as I read news from different countries.
    Thanks

    • Aneta Reluga

As for RSS support, it is planned, but with no ETA as of yet.
Regarding the possibility to use more than one language in the feed – it is on our suggestion list, but I’m not sure yet if being worked on. I’ll have to confirm.

hello, I cannot move my extensions place into the toolbar. Can we add this support? “Move extensions on toolbar” I can do this on Chromium.
    Thanks

It’s on the to-do list (as well as moving extension items between the toolbar and the expander).

      • yigido

Thank you Aneta for the information, I am developer version user so when can we get this feature? on which release number?

        • Leonardo Gomes

They usually don’t disclose this kind of information. We all will have to wait until a build with the feature be released.

          • yigido

I can’t see news section under the start page.
    It’s already enabled in options.

    • Aneta Reluga

What happens in your browser? The area is blank and not scrolling? Or, does it scroll but still blank?
Please check your flags (in case of doubt – you might want to try to reset all flags to default and relaunch).

      • SiMcarD

The entire news area is missing. The start page scrolls just a bit and then stops.
        Flag resetted without success.

      • SiMcarD

I have found the bug: the flag “news stacking layout” causes the problem with news. Disabling it solved this problem.

  • RafaellaG

Background/Theme on speed dial page is still darker than for example on settings or about page.

    • led9ru

mods/developers – you NOT SEE this, don’t you?
      DARKER = BAD!
      Do something!

    • xirit64

That’s intended and very good for reducing the brightness and really bring the tiles to the front and making them stand out.

      • RafaellaG

On my speed dials page it’s pretty “tidy”. And the picture for the background is – because of the reduced brightness – really dull.
        Almost a little ugly.
If they want to make the tiles stand out, then they should cancel themes for the speed dials and show only a uni colour background.

        • xirit64

If you would have been following this blog for quite some time you would have seen that there were many complaints about the overall over-the-top exposure to white and how kitschy SD was looking (you may check Stable and Beta versions to see the difference in the tiles), so in my -and their too- opinion this is definitely a step in the right direction. SD has now its own much deserved personality that was previously lacking.

          • RafaellaG

I just think, that even with a background in normal brightness the tiles “stand out” enough – and the background looks a lot better.

    Possible bug:

Edit: See picture on comment http://www.opera.com/blogs/desktop/2016/01/opera-developer-36-0-2120-0/#comment-2481906537

      Confirmed here.

      • Kornelia

Thanks Guys, did you report this issue into our bug-trucking system by any change?

        • Leonardo Gomes

          Done. DNA-48898

  • catup

The Menu button is in gray…It looks like something inactive. Again, the application icon in the windows 10 start menu is still not recognizable (Totally red for opera developer and totally white for Opera stable) . If you have lots of bookmarks and when the mouse passes over the bookmark option from the opera menu, the mouse pointer usually sticks over the bookmark option for a while.

  • catup

    Thank you for this update.

Personalized news; this feature takes advantage of your browsing history and adjusts your news page accordingly

Is it off by default? I never touched the “news” button, and I have no intention to do so. I hope, I wouldn’t like to have my browser history collected.

    EDIT: got my answer https://i.imgur.com/2EtcnBW.png
You should make this opt-in rather than opt-out.

    • Leonardo Gomes

As the picture on the post shows, you need to allow personalized news for it to be enabled.

    • http://velmont.no/ Odin Hørthe Omdal (odinho/Velm

If you turn on the flag, it still won’t send your data anywhere without asking first. When it has gathered enough history, and found some interesting sites, it will ask you if you want to enable the personalized news, — if you don’t click “yeah” then nothing will happen.

The history is just collected in the normal history. If you purge/delete that, there’s no history to read.

  • SLR

I’m starting to like the new UI now that it’s polished more. Thanks for removing the speed dial pop up animation, that was distracting to say the least.

  • DizzyRobot

The launch command –disable-web-security is no longer working since build 36.0.2114.0 on my Win7 64-bit. Is it a bug or something?

  • José Alberto

why don´t you use the words “start page” insted “speed dial”? the 2 things go to the same page: “start page”.

    • Leonardo Gomes

Speed Dials are part of the Start Page.

    • ayespy

Opera invented the modern start page, years ago, but they never called it that. Their name for it was “Speed Dial.” It was soon copied by Chrome, Firefox, and a number of others, some keeping the name Speed Dial and others calling it Top Sites or whatever. Eventually, it was folded into the general web community under the rubric “Start Page,” as the convention imposed by Chromium in its code, but Opera, the inventors of the concept, for some reason seem to want to keep the name they gave it in the beginning.

    • muratservan

Speed Dial is a brand. 🙂

  • Stanislav Stratil

Not that its any problem, but while not maximized window, there is this little pixel thingy in current opera stable and dev: http://i.imgur.com/gfbtnsT.jpg

And Im happy to hear, that you are doing some improvements to opera menu. I think it needs to be somehow revamped.

  • BraniganForever

Not enough Bookmarks button on the panel, as it was in earlier versions ..

    About News (possible bug):
When you disable “News on start page” in opera:flags the button for news reappears on the side panel. But when you click on it, nothing happens. No news.

    • Kornelia

Thanks for reporting. We’ve got it in our database (DNA-48119). Seems like got broken again. I reopened this ticket.

  • tarkus

According to O help, a folder that has to be backed up is ‘extension rules’. I don’t see that folder at the designated location ‘C:UsersuserAppDataRoamingOpera SoftwareOpera Developer’. All the other described folders & files are there. The same folder (extension rules) exists at the corresponding O stable location. Is it not necessary or is it manipulated (created & erased) by Opera?

    • Kornelia

“Extension Rules” folder is created only for extensions using specific APIs (like declarativeWebReqest API). It stores decalred rules for reuse during browser startup. So it’s possible that this folder may not be in each profile. Depends on what extensions have been installed and if they declared specific rules to be persisted.

  • Gloriam

The windows 10 UI seems to be a bit larger, taking up more horizontal screen space in the process, any chance this will be looked at?

Perhaps making the buttons for back/forward/reload a little smaller, or less screen space between the address bar and bookmarks bar.

  • Sidney Moraes

Guys, please, make Facebook use HTML5!!!

    • Leonardo Gomes

Did you asked Facebook already? 🙂

      • Sidney Moraes

I did it, several times 🙂 I found a tmporary solution, there is a extension to change the user agent to the sites you choose. Yes, you choose the sites to use another user agent.

        • Kev87

+1 Times have changed and flash is not that safe anymore and the possibilty to use html5 is there, so maybe the Opera devs can push facebook a bit to make work of this.

          • Arjan van Leeuwen

            We’re pushing 🙂

  • LoverOfLife

Please, add Romania in News. I said it many times already.. without any luck i see

  • hassanraza

There s bug in opera stable , i can not drag anything from one tab to another.

    • muratservan

I think its not a bug, its just a feature Opera doesn’t have.

      • hassanraza

Than opera should add this feature , its very useful.

  • Cary Fries

Give us some x64 love. 🙂

    • Freddy

Long overdue, in my opinion. Opera is the only major browser that doesn’t have a 64bit version.

      • Cary Fries

It wasn’t that long ago that Opera offered x64 beta and developer versions. They never struck me as being particularly buggy or unstable. I’m ready to party like it’s 2016.

        • Freddy

I would love for Opera to take full advantage of my hardware like other browsers do. They have given their reasons as to why they don’t offer a 64bit version, but I don’t agree with those. Again, all major browsers have a 64bit version. Plugins, for the most part, shouldn’t be an issue in 2016. If other browsers have 64bit versions that work just fine, why can’t Opera?

  • Kev87

The customize start page would look better if there was a bit more space between those two: http://prntscr.com/9w28n5

  • plague

When not using the touch interface, could you still make the buttons hover effect cover all the available vertical (and horizontal) space on the toolbar?
It honestly looks quite bad that the hover effect is just a tiny box that barely covers the button icon.

Make the buttons look and work exactly like in the touch interface, but without the extra added padding.

    • Mikolaj Boc

      Why not!

      • yigido

Thank you. Can you please decrease the place between each bookmarks? In Firefox, my all bookmarks can fit the toolbar, but in Opera Dev, they do not fit the bookmarks toolbar.
What do you think about it?

    • Freddy

I think the hover effect for the buttons should look just like Microsoft Edge.

  • x a

Do you differentiate between ”Autofill“[1] data and ”Autocomplete“[2] data? I have the impression, you don’t.

Wouldn’t it make primary sense, *not* to clear Autofill data, but Autocomplete texts with the ”Delete private data…“ function?

    __
[1] – that would be the address and CC data entered in the opera://settings/#autofill-settings section
[2] – data collected from your typing history in arbitrary form fields

  • Luis A. Rosario

Sometimes as I open & associate “web.whatsapp.com” with my phone, Opera’s performance slowdown a little bit and doesn’t load completely.

Note: It works well in Chrome.

    • muratservan

      Can you share screenshot please?

  • Anonimo

Dammit I’m still waiting for audio API… I want to be able to set tab.muted state, and get tab.audible state when audio is playing… It’s there in Chromium but why it’s still not present in Opera?

  • Alkaline

How to import data from Opera to Opera Developer browser? I installed dev version and checked ‘import data from default browser’. Unfortunetly it does not work.

    • Eroticus

C:UsersURIDAppDataRoamingOpera Software – Copy Opera Stable files intro Opera Developer folder.

  • Vux777

did you started to support storage.sync?
or this is some chromium leftover…

    • Leonardo Gomes

IINM i have been seeing that folder since a while. However it’s usually empty.

  • dialer

opera is the worst. dont show the url, and it remembers the tab when you open it but when you click on it the tab is not loaded, so why opera show tabs if it dont load it? seriouly, I use opera because chrome dont load the bank pages anymore. opera is not good as it used to be…

    • muratservan

Did you check “delay loading of background tabs” and “Show full URL in combined search and address bar” in the settings? But 1st enable advanced settings at the bottom of settings menu.

  • Kamen Minkov

Any way to control what tab Opera goes to after closing a tab?

  • postdante

Why are you starting to make tabs rounded? (under Windows) Squared ones are fine! (like in the current stable and beta channels). Please make them back or at least give option for that.

Please don’t make the same mistake that Mozilla did with it’s hideous FF australis.

Other thing is that Linux tabs are rounded (and ugly) from the beginning and they do not conform with the current Windows releases – are you going to fix that?

  • beBoss

Freeze when using twitter (scroll down to the first post of user account and will freeze if not, try to go up like you’re reading and will freeze for sure…)

    • Vux777

I also have strange freezing which started in this build
but it’s not limited to twitter tab
when it happens, nothing works in some!! tabs

can’t scroll, cant click anything with mouse

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/max1cp?feature=mhum Maxim

This is not a new freeze. This has been around for few versions now and is related to HTML 5.

  • muratservan

Will Opera support push notifications soon?

  • Gerhard Herre

gets finally the problem Opera and youtube under control. I slowly fed up that the video is all remain black and hear only the sound!

  • cra3y

I’m waiting for 64-bit release of Opera for Windows. I’m using many 32-bit apps simultaneously, so 32-bit opera have very little resource and I have to close her very often.

  • Druszlak

I cannot manage bookmarks in ‘unsorted’ folder (paste new items or even rearrange the existing ones). Is this intentional? I’m almost sure it was possible in previous versions.

It’s important cuz I can reach them in one less click than bookmarks in other folders.

  • ArchEde

I’ve got a funny bug which is there for a long time on my system, but unfortunately I haven’t found the time to report it yet. It seems to be a problem with the hw-acceleration, see screenshot: http://abload.de/img/operabugiqkeg.png
Every new tab looks like this, if it is supposed to show speedial. If I open “Incognito mode”, everything works normally (no bug).

Log messages from opera://gpu include a lot of the following in endless repetition:
    [0131/165304:ERROR:gles2_cmd_decoder_autogen.h(136)] : [.CommandBufferContext.Compositor-0x2d08cdacb6e0]GL ERROR :GL_INVALID_ENUM : glBindTexture: target was GL_FALSE
    [0131/165304:ERROR:gles2_cmd_decoder_autogen.h(2849)] : [.CommandBufferContext.Compositor-0x2d08cdacb6e0]GL ERROR :GL_INVALID_ENUM : glTexParameteri: target was GL_FALSE

I am on Arch Linux, 64 bit, Gnome Desktop. GPU is AMD HD5650M, driver xf86-video-ati, latest version from repo (1:7.6.1-1)

I have found a bug report rom Chromium which looks similar: https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=431661

    • muratservan

Yeah I had this issue when using Mint Cinnamon 17.2

      • ArchEde

Hi, how did you fix it?

        • muratservan

Couldn’t. I just disabled hw acceleration to get rid of problem.

          • ArchEde

OK thanks. Disabling hwa is a workaround for me, too

  • yigido

Can we expecta “integrated flash plugin” for Opera browsers?
Currently, Chrome and Slimjet browsers have this feature. User do not need to install anything beside Opera. What do you think?

    • Leonardo Gomes

I don’t think so. First because it would demand lots of efforts and resources to be kept updated, working and secure.
Second because Flash plugin will probably have the same destiny of Java’s one.

    • muratservan

I don’t think so, flash is about to die and its a good thing. Opera should focus on improvements instead of integrating the useless plug-in. 🙂

    • yigido

Google does this. I do not think that it is hard thing. Even Slimjet browser does this feature to users. After installed Opera, I do not want to see “Install Flash to watch the video”.. Remember I am not Flash fan 🙂 I hope it will die soon and HTML5 will be the future. But we also accept that fact, Flash is need in the next 1-2 year.

      • muratservan

I am not sure we will be able to see flash at the end of this year, but yeah they can make it optional.

  • beBoss

Would be nice if you add a way to create profiles like chrome 🙂

    • Alex Lozano

Create a Shortcut and edit the Target path:

“C:Program FilesOpera BrowserOpera Stablelauncher.exe” –user-data-dir=”C:Program FilesOpera BrowserOpera StableProfileTheNewProfileInstall”

      * Path to Opera Launcher:
      “C:Program FilesOpera BrowserOpera Stablelauncher.exe”

      * User Data Profile Command
      –user-data-dir

      * Path to the Opera Profile Name
      =”C:Program FilesOpera BrowserOpera StableProfileNewProfileInstall”

      • beBoss

Well this is far away from chrome way and from good practice. It’s not okay user to do it manually 😀 There should be UI way and good profiles manager 😉 Thanks by the way.

        • Alex Lozano

By the way you may play with different profiles until they implement a reasonable way “If they plan it”

          • beBoss

btw Do profiles folder should be in main opera folder or in appdata folder – “roaming” for example? Where is the right place?

          • Leonardo Gomes

The default one is usually on %appdata%Opera Software.

If you use the command line to point to another profile folder, it can be anywhere on your computer.

          • Alex Lozano

I create the profile inside C:Program FilesOpera Browser which contains the Opera versions: Opera Legacy 12.17 | Opera Stable | Opera Next | Opera Developer.

You can create it on another partition rather the System Partition and create Back Ups to another partition/Disk or create it directly in another partition.

  • Dmitry Kirin

    Hi Team,

At work, I’m behind an IIS proxy which requires a domain authentication. Every time Opera is launched, a Windows authentication dialog pops up, as Opera is trying to check for updates. This alone can be irritating enough for users to skip updates or go looking for ways to disable checking for updates.

What is worse, if I enter my credentials and Opera finds out there’s an update available, it requires the credentials once more, to perform the download.
After the update has been downloaded, the browser asks whether to install it. A Windows UAC prompt pops up. If I weren’t a local admin, it would ask for credentials once again.

The silent update mechanism has been introduced to have as many Opera installations up-to-date at all times as possible. These multiple prompts undermine the idea a bit, I think. It would be nice if you thought of a way to improve it someday. As well as about targeting corporate enviroments in general, actually. With .msi, .mst, etc.

    • Kornelia

Hi Dmitry, could you report you problem to our bug tracking system and I’ll make sure to forward it to the right person from there? Thanks.

    • Pavv3l

      HI Dmitry,

Selecting the “Save my credentials” option does not work for you?

  • xirit64

Bug: Can’t close the “Add to site” box with the “x” button. W7/64

  • Freddy

Just found a new bug. The jump list doesn’t work in Windows 10 (Pro x64). Also, the “Speed Dial” section shows the wrong favicon for most of the sites and the “Tasks” have no icons at all.

  • RafaellaG

    I have a general question:
Why is it when you configure your own shortcut (with advanced keyboard shortcuts disabled) for zoom in and zoom out (I use NUM +/-), that you can zoom in/out only when the first tab is active (the zoom effect works on all tabs)? Feature or bug?

  • _artem_

i add something about win 10 skin.. you really think those ugly b/w huge buttons are beautiful? i like the top bar to be colored.. which is a feature of win 8+ you began to use couple of builds ago? but with that ugly win10 skin… it’s not colored. why???? why you put ugly icons from edge? open windows explorer (“file manager”) and look what icons look like there. why not taking these nice buttons? why you put fugly metro crAPPS icons?????

  • Кostadin

Unable to scroll on http://www.inquisitr.com/. Win 10 64bit

    • Vux777

      no problem with scrolling here
      same OS

      • Ralf Brinkmann

        Me too.

  • Timur Shirchenko

    Hi, developers!!!
Honestly, a little bit miss you. Last time using Opera was long time ago, it was Opera 12.17.
The mainly your bad unability change the way of cache-folders and other temp’s, like it was before webkit using. Dont want to scoff my SSD.
Could you tell us, will you embed in your browser such feature, or I would contine using Maxthon.
By the way, a lot of Maxthon users are ex opera’s users. Think about, just change the way of cache. I dont like such a long way of cache:
    “C:UsersusernameAppDataLocal.roamingblablablablablablacache4”

    • Nerdebeu

Urban legend. The lifespan of an SSD is infinitely superior to that of a conventional hard disk. What was perhaps true in the early SSD is rubbish today. I moved any temporary files and my (5, differents models) SSD after 3 years are always 100%. Do a search on the tests of endurance of SSD.

      • Timur Shirchenko

No, I have 24 GB ram, and I made 12 GB Ramdisk (virtual disk), its fully enough for all cache in system, also, I like that after reboot system all cache disapeared..

  • xirit64

    New build 36.0.2129.0 🙂

    • Ralf Brinkmann

Yes, I have tried out and compared several times now. It’s much better and much faster without smooth scrolling.

      • xirit64

Amen to that brother, I never understood why people liked that, it’s like pressing the middle mouse button and moving up & down with that, extremely nauseatic…

        • Ralf Brinkmann

          I think it’s for mousies.

    • L33t4opera

The change log, and the announcement 😉

      • xirit64

I’ll leave that to you brother 🙂
