Thanks, Marcin, for this hopefully last bug-fix update in Opera 31.0.1889.98 Beta which brings us closer to Opera 31 Stable release very soon !

    • Lacedaemon

Yeah thanks for yet another (hopefully last) update for beta stream which was updated to Chromium version 44.0.2403.107 and some other fixes, along with a fix for a nasty crash, that was spotted by some (kudos to Vux777 and jho!).
I’m checking the changelog for detailed list of changes.

      • ayespy

See how much fun that can be? Heh, heh, heh.

        • Lacedaemon

          that’s not fun, that’s retarded…

          • ayespy

            And yet, you did it.

          • Lacedaemon

I did it to make the point of retardation clear, it seems you were the only one that didn’t get it…

          • ayespy

I absolutely got it. And since it seemed a kind of classless way for someone as seemingly arrogant and easily offended as yourself to ridicule someone who has offered you no offense, I thought I would kind of give you a good-natured little poke in the ribs about it. Predictably, you reacted with more insults and derision. And I chuckle again at your capacity to take offense where none is given. Have a nice day.

          • Lacedaemon

Old man, if you want to make an indoctrination do it to your son or whatever, just don’t bust my balls all the time. Just ignore me or I’ll have to do it.

          • ayespy

Just grow a sense of humor. Then you won’t get in so many fights, and nothing I say will bother you. I am never mean, rude, or antagonistic – though I do poke fun on occasion. K?

  • Angry Penguin

When you promote Opera for Linux x86 build to beta or stable chanel?

    • Arjan van Leeuwen

Soon :). We had to put some automated testing in place for this which is ready now for our developer builds, so I hope the next beta version can include Linux x86.

      • And when will be ready a Windows x64 version?.

      • Angry Penguin

        Thanks 🙂

  • You guys really need to fix O on Windows 10. These windows 98 boxes don’t look so great.

  • Gloriam

Looks like Opera 31 hasn’t been updated to work correctly with Windows 10 yet, scroll bar still uses classic-style (w98) graphics, and some of the pop-up stuff like for signing into Disqus (with google) has black bars around it, most likely due to border bars having less width.

    Could this be looked into?

    • SuperTommy

      It’s a known issue.

  • ricksper

O30 stable playing audio but not video on some videos. Is it fixed in O31?

    • Radek Rzepecki

      could you give some examples?

      • ricksper
        • nanana1

On this website : https://www.fiverr.com/ricksper/make-your-real-estate-advertising-photos-come-to-life–4, I could see the 56 seconds video showcasing various house and hear the soothing instrumental music in the background.

On this website : http://goo.gl/dDgRWh, I took the interactive product tour on this Toshiba laptop and it popped out a small box and showed me the world of apps I could get on Windows 8.

On Win 7 SP1 64-bit, this Opera Beta and latest PPAPI Flash Player.

        • Radek Rzepecki

What’s your OS and Flash version?

          • ricksper

I have Win 8.1. I checked Plugins and found both Flash PPAPI (out of process) & NPAPI both versions 18.0.0.209 Both versions were enabled. Videos were not working. I disabled both versions and it worked. Then I disabled PPAPI and it worked using only NPAPI. Then I disabled NPAPI, enabled only PPAPI and it worked. Confused…

          • ricksper

So now I’m getting messages from various sites telling me to update Flash.
            I give up.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Have you tried disabling the npapi flash?

          • ricksper

That seems to have fixed it. Thnx

          • Radek Rzepecki

Use ppapi only. If you disable it, you will get a message to update flash.

          • Daw

PPAPI is broken. Facebook videos on it freezing and shaking on my computer. On NPAPi was fine.

          • nanana1

            Only use PPAPI Flash Player.

NPAPI is no longer supported in many Chromium-based browsers including Opera 31 Beta.

  • mihe

Automatic Update seems to be broken since a few releases. Always says up2date :/

Edit: As usual, right after posting it does work 😉

    • Are you trying to update from an Opera beta build?

    • Leonardo Gomes

Note that it may take a while for your Opera install to autoupdate.

  • Cryio

Can’t wait for Opera to start leveraging Windows 10 features.
    DirectX12 for hardware acceleration.
    Action Center for notifications.
General UI/settings not looking like Windows 2000.

    • Илья Найдов

There’s nothing really useful in DirectX12 for hardware acceleration in the browser…

  • Jan

cool, i got mentioned in the blog! 🙂

  • Akira Kazama

Since Opera 31.0.1889.74 some html5 videos don’t work on GNU/Linux, they used to work fine with Opera 31.0.1889.50.

This version has the same problem.

    • Any example pages?

      • Akira Kazama

I posted some examples (youtube videos) but they were detected as spam.

    • Arjan van Leeuwen

Due to changes in Chrome, Opera is no longer able to use the system’s ffmpeg library to playback H264 videos on Linux, so H264-encoded videos fail to play by default (but HTML5 video encoded using different formats, like webm, work). For legal reasons, Opera can’t distribute an H264-compatible ffmpeg itself alongside Opera.

It’s possible to build your own version of Chromium’s modified ffmpeg, including H264 support, using the instructions posted here: https://gist.github.com/lukaszzek/ec04d5c953226c062dac . We hope to soon offer easier ways of getting or installing this library.

  • alvin

I don’t know it’s a bug or not as it never happen before. Now I can’t download any img or torrent file. Moreover, I install no virus software

  • sgrandin

Has the bug (or feature) that repeats all the existing Speed Dial thumbnails during install syncing been addressed yet? Not enthusiastic about trying it blind.

Thanks for fixing the psaudio.com redirect.

    • I don’t know if it has been fixed in the beta. But it is definitely still present in stable. Specifically on Opera Mobile. I have gotten a bunch of speed dials and unsorted bookmarks duplicates on my phone.

  • Protectorone

The new stable version when future? Waiting for 1 week . I am very curious about the new version. I have no doubt will increase the performance of Windows 10. Good luck.

    • ayespy

Looks like they are a day or two at most from up-rating 31 from Beta to Stable.

  • improve menus? they look horrible in w10 =(

    • Leonardo Gomes

It will probably come on the developer stream first.

    • ayespy

I personally find them totally acceptable, after upgrading from Win8.1 to Win10.

  • Falconet

Still no password sync with Opera 31? Just developer 32?

    • ayespy

That’s how it works. All NEW features are introduced in the Developer stream and move forward into other streams only as that version advances. So when O32 becomes Beta, then there will be password sync in Dev and Beta. Then when it moves forward into Stable32, there will be password sync in all three streams. New Features are NEVER added in any other stream than Developer. Once it gets to Beta, then it’s only bug-fixing and security updates and once it gets to Stable, it’s only security, same-whole-number Chromium updates, and the very, very rare bugfix.

      • Falconet

Yeah I know, I just asked since I remembered a while ago reading that Opera Dev 32 had password sync, and I was wondering if it could have been ported to 31.

Guess I’ll have to wait for Opera 32 stable. Hopefully they also fix the import manager for Firefox settings, passwords, etc, since it never worked for me, be it on Windows 10, 8.1 or Linux.

  • sgrandin

    Install disabled extensions

    • ayespy

This seems to be happening in multiple browsers updating to newer versions of Chromium 44. It would seem that uninstalling and reinstalling the disabled extensions fixes it.

      • sgrandin

So maybe that’s why often Ad Block and occasionally the To-Read extensions are disabled upon opening Opera. With Ad Block, it can even appear to be enabled but in fact isn’t, and has to be disabled/reenabled to work. Been bugging Ad Block and Opera about it, but could it be a Chromium problem?

        • ayespy

The things i read make it appear that it is a Chromium problem, and that uninstalling and reinstalling extensions fixes it.

          • sgrandin

            See later post above.

          • sgrandin

Today, opening this beta, Ad Block was disabled and To-Read extension had been emptied of all its site listings. So yes, problem stil there.

          • ayespy

Drag. This is one reason why I am against extensions on principle as a way of customizing the browser. You never know when an update is going to break an extension (or many) and how long it will take until either the browser developer or the extension authors get the situation fixed. As far as I am concerned, browser features should be built in and maintained by the developers. Period.

  • Gloriam

In case you guys are looking for feedback for Opera in W10, notifications are kinda broken, for example when using twitch notifier, it spams the same message over and over again, turned notifications off for the time being but it would be nice if this could be looked into. 🙂

  • sgrandin

Do I have it right that the four zoom and directional symbols at the bottom of the Print page adjust what the user is seeing on screen, not how the doc will print, i.e., as in a scalable print preview?

  • Gloriam

Well.. I’m done with the discovery function, sites spoiling games in their title and image.

    • BK

Hm? Can you explain a bit more please?

      • Gloriam

One of the sites allowed in the gaming section of Discovery spoiled Life is Strange with an image of part 4 of the game, I don’t know which one and I’m not in a hurry to look it up as I’ve yet to start playing the game and do not wish to spoil the story.

Not like this is the first time it happened, could use some curation.

One thing that might be handy to have is having a blacklist for sites, one that could be set-up by the user, by right-clicking the article then selecting ‘blacklist this site’. That data could be send to you guys for review.
This could be used for sites outside gaming too.

  • Vux777

btw. devs, have a nice holidays
    …….
and if visiting Jadran, don’t forget your usual accessories 😛

  • Илья Найдов

I just noticed that About Opera page reports Windows 10 as Windows 8.1…
Another bug is that Google Play Music doesn’t work at all after they made it look like a Tablet app… I have to open it in Chrome now…

    • Confirmed Opera reporting Windows 10 as Windows 8.1.

Confirmed with Opera stable, this build and Opera Developer 32.0.1933.0.

    • BK

Thanks for letting us know. This is fixed internally in developer, soon to be available on all streams.

  • Vux777

occasionally, mouse gestures stops to work
and when that happens, I can’t type in Facebook comment box
(noticed last time, not sure about before)

I’m experiencing this in last couple of Beta builds (2-3)

    • This has been a thing for a very long time. When this happens also tab switching stops working. Not sure how to reproduce though.

      • Vux777

did you perhaps disabled extra mouse gestures?
I always do that, maybe there’s a bug in it….

        • I never had them on in the first place so no. I have encountered this bug mostly when using media keys on the keyboard. It’s not consistent however.

          • Vux777

yea, I also can’t figure it out what triggers it
so far, only happened to me in Beta

yes…but in Windows 10 styles of buttons on sites from Windows 98

Youtube is still hopeless in this update. Playback, on all settings,
still stutters with or without hardware acceleration activated. It
certainly is not my videocard, MSI GeForce GT610 2Gb memory, as Youtube is working flawlessly in 1080p on Windows 10 in Firefox 39.0.3, MS Edge and IE Explorer 11.0.10240.16384. Do you not check these things? It looks as though other browser builders do yet Opera doesn’t.

I have just reinstalled Opera, after having changing to Firefox when Opera 12 was no longer updated. I had been using Opera since Opera 4. Opera 31 is for me a disappointing experiece, especially seeing it’s lack of basic functionality and settings that are still simply not present when compared to other browsers. Sad really, I suppose that’s what you get with a Chrome browser.

  • L33t4opera

The Opera 32 has been promoted to the beta channel: 32.0.1948.4 😉
    The change log 😉
