How to report crashes in Opera

A crash is when Opera suddenly closes, usually with an error message such as:

  • memory could not be "read"
  • caused a general protection fault
  • caused an invalid page fault
  • This program has caused an illegal operation and will be shut down
  • has caused an error in ... will now close

To report crashes in Opera:

  1. Download and install Inspector IIXII to log the crash.
  2. Open the log in a text editor and copy the very first line in the file to the Windows clipboard (press Ctrl+C).
  3. Open the Bug Report Wizard and set the "What kind of problem is this?" dropdown to "Crashes Opera", and proceed with filling in the required fields. In the "What actually happens?" field, paste the first line from the crash log.
  4. Remember to enter your e-mail address, and press "Submit" to submit the bug report.
  5. Once the report has been submitted, take note of the e-mail address you get on the page which says "Your bug report has been posted". It is in the format "bug-[number]@bugs.opera.com".
  6. Use 7-Zip to compress the file containing the crash log (you can also use RAR or ZIP), attach the compressed log to an e-mail and send it to the address you got after submitting the bug report.

Please note that we will not contact you about your bug report unless we need more information from you about that particular issue.
