Changing preferences for file types in Opera

You can choose which action Opera should perform when encountering certain file types. To set this,

  1. Open Tools (Opera on Mac) > Preferences > Advanced > Downloads and choose "File types".
  2. Uncheck "Hide file types opened with Opera" to display all registered file types. You can enter a search term into the "Quick find" field to narrow down the list.
  3. To edit the preferences for a specific file type, select the desired entry of the list and either double-click it or choose "Edit...". A dialog called "File type" will be opened. Here you can choose your desired action for the file type in question:
Show download dialog
The system download dialog will be opened.
Open with Opera
The file type will open directly in Opera if possible.
Save to disk
The file type will be saved to disk. Select "Open when transfer is complete" to launch the downloaded file when the download is completed. "Do not ask for folder, but save directly to" will save files of this type directly to the directory you specify in the field below.
Open with default application
The file type will be opened in the application that is the default handler of that file type on your system
Open with other application
The file type will open in the application you specify in the field below. "Pass Web address directly to application" will pass the URL of the file directly to the specified application.
Use plug-in
The file type will open in Opera using a plug-in, if a plug-in that can handle this file type is available. To see whether you have a plug-in for a specific file type, go to Tools > Advanced > Plug-ins and check whether the file type is listed.

Note: A file type is defined as a pair consisting of one MIME type and one or more file extensions.
