Opera 9.5 on Windows 95 requires Windows Sockets (Winsock) 2.0

Opera 9.5 no longer supports Windows Sockets 1.0

Users employing the Windows 95 operating system who want to install Opera 9.5 are therefore advised to download and install the free Windows Sockets 2.0 update from Microsoft.

Important note: Please install this Windows Sockets 2.0 update on your Windows 95 operating system before installing the Opera 9.5 Web browser.

This update consists of one file named W95ws2setup.exe. This file installs an updated:

  • TCP/IP stack
  • updated TCP/IP utilities
  • updated Windows Sockets 2.0 components

Procedure

  1. Go to the following link: Windows Sockets 2.0 update for Windows 95
  2. Select the download option to save the file to your hard drive and then execute it from there.
  3. Download and install Opera 9.5
