Windows Media Player is a multimedia player from Microsoft. It comes preinstalled on Windows computers, and can be used to play embedded video and audio on Web pages through a plug-in.

WINDOWS

Since Windows Media Player comes preinstalled with Windows, for most users the plug-in should work from the moment Opera is installed. In some cases, especially for Windows Vista or Windows XP with version 11 of Windows Media player, you may need to use a separate plug-in. You need to install a plug-in if you notice that either:

• video or audio are not playing, or
• video edges are cut off.

To install this plug-in for Windows post 98/ME (Vista, XP), follow these steps:

1. Go to Download
2. Install the plug-in.
3. Restart Opera.
4. Try using Windows Media Player.

If you are still having problems, try these further steps:

5. Open the advanced config options.
6. Next to Plugin Path, in the input box, type X:\Pfiles\Plugins; at the very start of the line, where X is the letter of your system drive (such as C:...). Important: Make sure you include the semi-colon ; at the end, and do not use quote marks.
7. Try steps 2 and 3 again.

If you are running an older Windows version (Windows 95/98/ME), you need to install a different plug-in.

1. Go to Download.
2. Install the older plug-in.
3. Open Internet Explorer and go to Windows Update to make sure you have the latest version of the plug-in.
4. Restart Opera.
5. Try using Windows Media Player.

Please install Windows Media Components for QuickTime to play Windows Media content in Opera. This has officially replaced Windows Media Player for Mac.
