Dear University/College,

As a group of students that believes University/College provides its students and staff with access to the best technology available, we would like to request the installation of the Opera Web browser in computer labs at University/College. Please find attached a petition with numbersignatures to support our request.

We believe that students and staff should have choice among the Web browsers they use, as choice encourages innovation and competition in the browser industry. The Opera Web browser has a particularly important role in the browser industry. As the most standards-compliant browser, Opera leads the way in ensuring that the Web is accessible and consistent for any user, on any browser, on any device, anywhere in the world.

Access to alternative browsers is also important for students of information technology and multimedia, in order to fully test the look and functionality of websites and other web programs that they develop.

Here are some of the many reasons why we believe that University/College would benefit from the installation of the Opera browser:

• The Opera browser is completely free and without advertising.
• The browser is available for Windows, Mac and Linux platforms.
• Opera renders quickly and consistently. It has stringent support for the latest web standards, including CSS, SVG and XHTML, and some support for CSS3 and HTML5.
• The Opera Web browser has excellent security, including 256-bit encryption (the highest available security of any Web browser), excellent support for security protocols, cookie control, fraud protection and a security bar. The Opera browser is less open to attack from hackers and viruses.
• Computer lab system administrators are able to customize the bookmarks, toolbars, skin and many other Opera browser features before distributing it.
• Opera Software also has browsers for standard mobile phones and smart phones (Opera Mini and Opera Mobile) to offer students and staff a seamless browsing experience, or Web access that they might not otherwise have off campus.
• The Opera browser is able to run in ‘Kiosk Mode’ on unattended computers in public areas in universities so that users can browse for information, without accessing the computer and browser settings.
• The small file download size and fast rendering make the Opera browser particularly well suited for lower-capacity computers or computers with lower Internet bandwidth.

We believe that the Opera Web browser would be a valuable addition to our computer labs at University/College. We ask you to consider the request of the following students to adopt the Opera Web browser.
