Opera

Standards support is one of Opera Software's driving principles. Since the beginning, Opera Software has believed not just in supporting and creating standards but also in working in tandem with other industry leaders to enable an Internet that is accessible to, by and for all. For Opera, enabling cross-device, cross-platform, cross-network experiences means fully participating in the Internet's governing bodies to create standards and policies that underpin Opera's commitment to providing the best Internet experience on any device.

Opera actively contributes to forging the building blocks of the Internet by participating in various Internet and technology-industry governing bodies and forums. Opera is a leader in the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), with membership in a number of W3C working groups. Additionally, Opera joins various other industry governing bodies, such as the Open IPTV Forum and the LiMO Foundation, to act as a vocal advocate for standards-based development regardless of platform or device.

Open IPTV Forum

Open IPTV Forum

In March 2007, various industry leaders came together to create the OIPF, aiming to provide an IPTV solution that would enable a user-friendly "plug-and-play" experience for end users. The goal of the OIPF is to define and standardize the complex, behind-the-scenes technology required to facilitate the simplicity users experience with IPTV. The "open" in Open IPTV signifies the open nature of both the specifications and of participation in creating them - open standards created for and by any organization sharing the OIPF's objectives.

"The Open IPTV Forum is an important group in today's marketplace. Currently no standards exist for this market, resulting in diverse implementations that not only hinder growth but may serve as a risk for stakeholders. With Opera Software now on board, we now have the opportunity to harness Opera's Web technology to help us meet our end goal of specifying a solution that will bring IPTV services to the masses." -Yun Chao Hu, Steering Group chairman, Open IPTV Forum
