Opera 10.2 alpha

Web applications take center stage

Opera 10.2 alpha is a preview designed to showcase our new Opera Widgets for Desktop. Opera Widgets are now able to move beyond the Web browser and become first-class applications.

Note: For your everyday browsing, please continue to use 10.10, the latest stable version of Opera’s free and award-winning browser. Do not use Opera 10.2 without backing up your data.

What is new?

Independent from the browser

Opera Widgets for Desktop provides a standalone framework, and supports the separation of widgets from the Opera browser user interface and resources.

Multi-process architecture

Each Opera Widget runs in a process separate from other applications, allowing more security and stability for your widgets.

Windows, Mac and Unix/Linux integration

Opera Widgets can behave like normal applications in the OS: with the same window chrome, icons on the Start Menu in Windows or Application folder on the Mac.

Independent but not disconnected

You can still use your Opera browser Password Manager and notification pop-ups, so you do not lose your favorite features.

File I/O Supported

Access your local file system with Opera Widgets. Use or create widgets that play music, view pictures and videos, and so much more.

Opera Dragonfly support

If you are a developer, remotely debug your HTML- and CSS-based widget just as you do for your Web sites. There is almost no learning curve.
