Opera 10.60 features geolocation, making it easy for websites to provide useful and relevant content based on where you are. And you maintain strict control over your privacy.
Many websites can use location information to tailor their content to your position. You may want to see where you are on a map or get a listing of businesses nearby. Geolocation is an open standard that allows websites to request this information from supported web browsers, such as the latest version of Opera.
To determine the location of a computer, information about nearby wireless access points is used in conjunction with a user's IP address. If you choose to share your location, this data is sent to our geolocation service provider, Google Location Services, which can then use this information to approximate your location. The location is then returned to the browser. Accuracy of the location returned depends on how much information is available about access points in that area.
We care about your privacy, and it is important to us. When a site requests location information, Opera asks your permission, and you can easily say no by clicking "Deny". The geolocation standard is designed to ensure that your privacy is safeguarded and that your information cannot be shared without your knowledge and consent. Additionally, any information that is sent to our geolocation service provider is always sent over an encrypted connection.
You can learn more about this by reading our privacy policy.
