Opera Press Release
Opera and Xsite Ease Burden for Offline Publishers
Combining web technology to ease the burden for offline content publishers
Oslo, Norway - May 4, 1999
Opera Software AS and New Media Agency, Xsite e-business systems, based in Germany, are proud to announce the joining of forces by combining web technology to ease the burden for offline content publishers.
Xsite has developed XETIS - a technology to publish existing Internet pages and product information with dynamically generated pages on both the Internet and CD-ROM / DVD-ROM / CD-Card. Using XETIS, existing databases and Internet pages may be published on CD-ROM, which also contains an installation-free version of the Opera web browser as well as a database-based webserver. Using the integrated Update Module, any existing Internet connection can be used to synchronize the CD-ROM based offline content with the current online version.
The Opera web browser provides unique functionality to this system because the application can automatically run directly from the CD-ROM, DVD-ROM or CD-Card when put into the drive -- without installation. The PC-configuration remains untouched. Only XETIS, in cooperation with the Opera browser, offers this strategic advantage.
