Opera Software today announced that Smart Telecom of Indonesia has selected Opera Mini for the Samsung Pinger and Nexian C951. The Nexian C951, available to Smart subscribers, features a pre-set "O" hot key, an Opera shortcut to ensure that users are always just one click away from the Web.
The BREW-based Samsung Pinger and Nexian C951 use Opera Mini 4.2 to deliver a desktop-computer-like Web experience to the small screen. As the world’s most popular mobile browser, Opera Mini has already made a significant impact in the Indonesian mobile market. Indonesia steadily ranks second in overall Opera Mini usage by country, surpassed only by Russia. Indonesians are using Opera Mini predominantly to access social-networking sites such as Facebook and Friendster from their mobile phones.
"The Indonesian mobile-phone market is booming, and Opera Mini has been there from the beginning," said James Wei, President Asia/Pacific, Opera Software. "In this region, it is especially important to deliver a full-featured mobile browser that gives everyone equal access to the Web. Broadband infrastructure remains underdeveloped and only 10 percent of the Indonesian population has Web access from desktop computers. Opera Mini has been the answer for the majority, helping them stay connected, informed and entertained."

Smart Telecom is a leading operator in Indonesia, known for delivering advanced, yet affordable, telecommunications services to the country. Its focus is on giving its users the best value for their money, and Opera Mini meets that criteria. With server-side compression technology, Opera Mini not only enables faster surfing, but also keeps costs down by delivering less data to the phone.
"We are excited to be entering the first phase of our partnership with Opera, and we expect to make many more Opera-powered phone models available to our customers in the near future," said Ruby Hermanto, Head of Core Product And Branding, Smart Telecom. "Opera Mini is already the most popular Web browser in Indonesia. By putting an Opera hot key on our new phone, we are simply responding to the wishes of our users and making it even easier for them to surf with one of the fastest mobile browsers on the market today."
Samsung Pinger embedded with latest version of Opera Mini will be available from mid-November 2009. Nexian C951 will be available in early December 2009.
