Opera brings widgets and Web browsing to Orange’s new Tabbee Family Organizer

Oslo, Norway — September 9, 2009

Opera Widgets are now helping busy families get more organized. Orange Vallée, a division of Orange (the operational brand of the France Telecom group) that is focused on addressing new growth markets, has selected Opera Devices SDK to bring widgets and full Web browsing to its new Tabbee Internet tablet. Intended to give easy and immediate access to practical or entertaining Internet services, the Tabbee uses Widgets to deliver sports, news, entertainment and games services directly to the device’s seven-inch touch-screen.

The Tabbee comes with a set of pre-installed Widgets, but end users also have also the freedom to personalize their Tabbee experience by adding, replacing or deleting Widgets. In addition, Opera Devices technology allows for easy and powerful Web navigation with a few taps of a finger. As more than simply a Wi-Fi information hub for the whole family, the Tabbee can also play Web TV, films, music, photos and home videos wherever they are stored in the homes : PCs, media centers, USB keys or SD cards.

“On the Tabbee, the Web is a key component. Widgets are essential in making this device easy to use for the entire family. It’s the best way to give users quick access to relevant information without necessarily having to turn a PC on in the home and to allow customization. Opera Devices SDK was the best choice to put the entire Web at their fingertips,” said Jean-Louis Constanza Chairman and CEO Orange Vallée.

Opera has teamed with Orange on a number of projects, including Ten by Orange. This initiative was a joint effort to help users discover the mobile Internet and all its services.

“Home wireless devices are growing area for Opera. Our prior successes on portable media players and Web tablets grabbed Orange’s attention, as using Opera Widgets on a device is easy way to develop and deploy useful services and content. It’s basically a short-cut for users to get the information they want, and quick and easy is the key when it comes to family organization,” said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software.

The Tabbee touch-screen Web tablet will be initially available in France.
