Sonim, makers of the world’s toughest GSM phones, has announced that its newest model, the XP3, will ship with the Opera Mini browser pre-installed. The Sonim XP3, designed for blue/grey-collar workers and wilderness and extreme sports aficionados, is now available in select markets across Europe and in Australia.
Sonim chose Opera because the two companies share the common vision of bringing the full Web experience to customers regardless of where they work, play, or camp. Opera Mini, the world’s most popular mobile browser with over 21 million active users and counting, works on nearly any phone with a data connection, and will bring an added element of connectivity users that are truly in the field.
The XP3 with Opera Mini will help those out on a job site or in the wilderness research things like materials and supplies, safety tips or weather conditions, and give those playing an extreme sport the unique ability to communicate and share their experiences with their friends and the outside world.
The Sonim XP3 is as rugged as a phone gets. It is water submersible, “officially” runs at temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius and as high as 60 degrees Celsius and can withstand up to a 2 meter drop onto concrete. It has 5.5 hours of talk time and a shocking 220 hours of standby power.
