Opera Software, the company that puts the Web on any device, today announced the official opening of its office in the Czech Republic. With a strong presence in Central Europe, Opera chose Prague as a launching pad for delivering its Web browser to users in this part of the world. Opera also aims to hire highly qualified software developers and testers to help deliver the Opera browser to the world's leading consumer electronics manufacturers and telecom operators.
With a marketshare of more than 5% among people surfing the Web with their PCs in Czech Republic*, Opera already has a loyal base of users. "We are happy to see Opera open an office in Czech Republic," says Martin Polovinčák, one of the people behind the operacesky.net fan site. "People in our country are well known for their interest in mobile technology and that should be a great fit for Opera Software as a company and for users of its products."
Hundreds of thousands of people in Czech Republic are using Opera to access the Web with their mobile phones. While many download Opera Mini directly from Opera's Web sites, others use the browser on mobile phones from operators such as T-Mobile.
"Opera holds a strong position in the Central European market. Establishing a development office in the region will enable us to strengthen our presence and expand our reach," says Jon von Tetzchner, CEO and co-founder of Opera Software. He is currently in Prague to open the new office and meet with employees and Opera users. "It's important for us to be present in local markets and collaborate closely with existing and future business partners, in addition to supporting our loyal user-base."
Opera aims to hire highly qualified technical personnel for its Prague office. The company is seeking experienced software developers to work on challenging projects for Opera's global mobile and device customers. Opera is also seeking qualified product testers to join the company's world class quality assurance team who works closely with developers and project managers to ensure that the Opera browser delivers the best user experience possible.
The new office will be headed by Jozef Kosoru, who previously worked at Opera's headquarters in Oslo, Norway.
