Opera Software today announced that Pannon, a leading Hungarian mobile operator, will distribute the Opera Mini mobile browser to its three million subscribers in Hungary. Pannon is pre-installing Opera Mini on 10 high-volume handsets from leading manufacturers including Nokia and Sony Ericsson. In addition, Pannon will also distribute Opera Mini from its mobile portal.
Pannon offers the widest mobile broadband (EDGE, UMTS) coverage in Hungary. As a result, customers can use Opera Mini at high speeds in over 2,600 towns and villages across the country.
Opera Mini is a lighter version of Opera Mobile, and enables full Web access on the majority of all mobile phones in the market. Opera Mini saves the user time as well as money because Web pages are routed through a server that compresses the content to fit mobile phones.
With more than seven million users so far, the browser has quickly established itself as one of the world's most popular mobile phone Java applications, and a significant driver of data traffic for mobile phone operators. No other browser can offer the same speed, functionality and low cost of surfing, which can explain Opera Mini's great success since its worldwide launch in January 2006.
"Opera Mini has that wow effect when people try it for the first time, and those who download it tend to become regular users," says Roger Carlhammar, Executive Vice President, Mobile, Opera Software. "People love it because it works smoothly and saves them a lot on surfing costs, and operators are now recognizing Opera Mini's huge potential in driving data traffic and enabling mobile services."
