Omnitel, the largest mobile telecommunications company in the Baltic countries, is first to launch the Opera Mini Web browser for mobile phones in Lithuania. The popular Opera Mini browser, made by Opera Software, is widely used worldwide and ensures fast and convenient Internet browsing on mobile phones. Now, all Omnitel and Omnitel Extra users can browse their favourite Internet pages directly on their phones. "Until now it was only possible to browse limited Internet content through a mobile phone's WAP browser, unless you owned an advanced phone. Opera Mini not only gives users the full Internet on nearly any type of phone, but it also adapts Web pages for viewing on the small screen using Opera's Small Screen Rendering (SSR) technology. By offering this browser to our customers, we give them with an easy and convenient way to access any web page," Giedrius Makauskas, Omnitel‘s Marketing Director said.
Users can download the Opera Mini browser by going to the Omni SurfPort mobile Internet portal (at the address wap.sp.lt) with their phone's WAP browser. Soon, Omnitel users will receive an SMS message with a link to download the programme. In the near future, Omnitel plans to simply pre-install the Opera Mini browser on mobile phones.
Opera Mini comes in the Lithuanian language and includes several useful bookmarks for foreign Internet portals such as the BBC and Google, as well as Lithuanian. Opera Mini is free, and users only pay for transferred data. To use Opera Mini, a compliant, Java-enabled mobile phone is required.

According to the latest public data from the Communications Regulatory Authority, Omnitel commands 51 percent of the mobile communications market in terms of income received.
