Opera Software today announced a new partnership with Wind River, the global leader in device software optimization (DSO). As a part of Wind River's partnership network of best-in-breed solutions, the fast and full-featured Opera Web browser will be offered as a validated software component for devices using Wind River's Linux-based products.
By partnering with Opera, Wind River acknowledges the potential of the Opera browser to provide full Internet capabilities on a device, and as a tool for developing dynamic user interfaces and advanced Web applications. The Opera browser for devices is complementary to Wind River's promise to deliver flexible, standards-based solutions. In strict compliance with W3C standards, applications developed using Opera are easily ported to a device.
“For a device manufacturer, adding a browser to the software mix will not only enable full Internet capabilities but also contribute to a quicker time to market,” says Scott Hedrick, Executive Vice President, Opera Software. “Using Web technologies to develop applications and UIs for devices means that we've taken away the learning curve. Wind River is a visionary in the device software market, and they have rightly predicted that the Web browser will become a powerful tool that extends beyond surfing the Web.”
As its first partnership activity, Opera Software will be present at the Wind River World Wide User Conference in Orlando, Florida, on May 15-18, 2006. Charles McCathieNevile, the Chief Standards Officer at Opera Software, will host a session during the conference entitled “Web standards for devices”. Opera will exhibit as well at the conference and demo its Web browser on several different devices.
“Opera has long set itself apart in the browser industry for delivering a superior Internet experience to devices,” said Steve LaPedis, vice president of field and alliance marketing, Wind River. “We offer our customers the best solutions that are on the market today, so a partnership with Opera was a natural step.”
