Opera Software, a global leader in Web browser technologies, and MediaPlazza, a leading worldwide distributor of mobile content, today announced a partnership to promote and distribute Opera's new mobile browser, Opera Mini. MediaPlazza will offer Opera Mini as a premium SMS download from more than 50,000 mobile content Web sites in 60 different countries.
"By offering Opera Mini through MediaPlazza's extensive network we are able to reach more people and offer the convenience of SMS download in addition to the free WAP and PC downloads," says Timo Bruns, EVP Mobile, Opera Software. "Millions go to MediaPlazza or their affiliate sites every day to download ringtones, games and applications for their phones, so it is a natural place to distribute Opera Mini."
Opera Mini is free of charge, but there is a small fee connected with the premium SMS download to cover the distribution costs.
"This partnership is a good opportunity for us to prove the efficiency of our global mobile distribution network," says Eric Gautier, CEO, MediaPlazza. "Opera Mini is an enhancement of our current content catalog, and we are pleased to offer this popular new browser to our customers worldwide."
Opera Mini was launched globally on January 24, 2006, after trials in the Nordic countries and Germany in the fall of 2005. During the limited trial period Opera Mini attracted a user base of over one million people. The browser has been praised by end-users, mobile analysts and the press all over the world. Ovum analyst Tony Cripps said, "With [Opera Mini] trials now complete and mass adoption now possible, we would not be surprised to see more operators choosing to offer all-you-can-eat Opera Mini access as a means to encourage usage still further."
More information and free download of Opera Mini is available at mini.opera.com. The full list of countries and SMS codes is available at www.opera.com/products/mobile/operamini/sms/.
