Opera Software, a global leader in Web browser technologies, today announced its extended partnership with Amino, leading IPTV software and customer premises equipment provider. Amino now offers the Opera Browser as an option for shipments of its AmiNET110 set-top boxes, and will also work with Opera to integrate browser technology into next generation products.
Opera 8.5 SDK was chosen for its faster performance, lower memory footprint, and support for advanced Web-based user interfaces for IPTV. The fast and full-featured Opera Web browser offers a compelling surfing experience for users of Amino's IPTV set-top boxes, and Opera's leading compliance with open Web standards enables the quick development of advanced, interoperable, cross-platform Web applications and dynamic user interfaces.
"We are proud to partner with Amino and together address the increasing demand for full Web browsing technology in the IPTV market," says Scott Hedrick, Executive Vice President, Opera Software. "With Opera, Amino is able to enhance its IPTV offerings to include advanced features that are only possible through a standards-based, advanced Web browser such as Opera."
As a part of Opera and Amino's partnership, Amino can also provide application developers with the Amino Software Development Kit with the Opera browser option. Opera's browser technology has been ported on top of Amino's Intact™ IPTV Software Stack. As a result, Amino delivers a platform to support full Internet browsing, advanced Web-based user interfaces, and applications combining video and graphics.
"Customers will benefit from Amino's partnership with Opera," says Roy Kirsopp, VP & General Manager, Amino. "Its industry-leading support for the W3C Web standards and its remarkable performance make Opera an attractive choice for better browsing and advanced user interfaces on Amino's AmiNET110 and our upcoming next generation set-top boxes."
Amino's AmiNET110 set-top boxes with Opera browser are currently available. Middleware vendors including Dreampark, Orca, Industria, Tandberg and Alcatel have solutions available for Amino set-top boxes running Opera.
