The Full Web and AJAX on a Chip for TV: The Opera browser is now pre-ported to Sigma's SMP8630 chipsets

Oslo, Norway - January 05, 2006

Opera Software, a global leader in Web browser technologies, today announced its partnership with Sigma Designs (Nasdaq: SIGM), leader in digital media processing for consumer electronics. The Opera Web browser will be available pre-ported to Sigma's SMP8630 family of chipsets, and available to manufacturers in the Opera 8.5 SDK (Software Development Kit) for Devices (TM). This partnership accelerates time-to-market for OEMs that are including a Web browser on their Sigma-powered devices.

Sigma, a leading provider of powerful system-on-a-chip solutions, enables powerful, cost effective products for the advanced requirements of devices such as digital media adapters, IPTV set-top boxes and networked DVD players. OEMs including Sigma's SMP8630 family of chipsets in their products will now be able to easily add the full- featured and small-sized Opera Internet browser for a fast Internet surfing experience from their devices. Using open Web standards, Opera allows for easy portability and accelerates the pace for developing dynamic user interfaces and cutting-edge Web applications.

"The combination of Sigma and Opera enables the rapid creation of compelling new devices that can take advantage of the power of the full Internet and Web applications," says Scott Hedrick, Executive Vice President, Opera Software. "I am excited to collaborate with Sigma to enable the best end user experiences for IPTV set-top boxes, DVRs, Blue-ray & HD DVD players and other digital consumer electronics devices."

"With an increasing number of our customer devices requiring full Web browsing and the ability to run web-based user interfaces, Opera is natural partner for Sigma Designs," says Ken Lowe, VP of strategic marketing, Sigma Designs. "At Sigma we are focused on producing exciting products that enable the best user experience, and Opera is complementary in that it provides users a fast and full-featured Internet experience."
