Opera Software today announced that the Opera browser is included on the Hitachi W32H for KDDI's 3G network in Japan. The release of this new, BREW-based mobile phone coincides with the one-year anniversary of Opera Software's agreement with KDDI. It is the fifth mobile phone with Opera delivered by KDDI within one year.
"After one year of working with KDDI to bring the full Internet to mobile phones in Japan, we have seen the definite fulfillment of our agreement," says Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. "KDDI has released multiple devices with the Opera browser, all successfully received by the market and all offering cutting-edge innovation with the ability to surf the full Internet while on the go. The Japanese are advanced users of technology and their choice of the Opera browser shows clear foresight into the future of the mobile Web."
Opera Software announced its agreement with KDDI in August 2004 and together they shipped the first phone in December 2004, making Opera the first full Internet browser on the Japanese 3G network.
"By partnering with Opera, we have introduced the Japanese market to the full Internet on the mobile phone," says Seiichiro Sakai, Ph.D, Director Product Management Department, "au" Service & Product Planning Division "au" Business Sector, KDDI. "Japanese user adoption was made easier with the exceptional Internet experience Opera offers. Our customers would not be satisfied with anything less than desktop-like surfing, unlimited access to content and easy usability with Opera's Small-Screen Rendering™ (SSR) technology."
KDDI's Hitachi W32H will be released in September 2005 in Japan.
