Opera Software today announced its collaboration with Digeo, developer of the Moxi Media Center, to develop a prototype Opera browser. The Opera browser is being evaluated for integration with Digeo middleware to run on the Moxi Media Center, a cable media center with digital video recording (DVR) functionality.
The Opera prototype will enable cable subscribers to view the full Internet on their televisions through the Moxi Media Center. Opera's advanced TV Rendering (TVR) technology adjusts Web pages so that they perfectly fit the TV screen. The prototype was demonstrated in April 2005 at NCTA, the U.S. cable industry's largest trade show of the year.
Moving beyond the simple DVR and digital set-top box, the Moxi Media Center supports and enhances key cable initiatives such as On Demand, HDTV and VoIP while extending cable services to encompass the full range of consumer digital media such as music and photography. With Moxi, cable operators can win the battle for the digital home against competing offerings from satellite, telco, and personal computer companies.
Digeo has established Moxi deployments with Adelphia, BendBroadband, Charter Communications, NewWave Communications and Sunflower Broadband. Digeo is primarily back by Vulcan, Inc., founded by Paul G. Allen.
