Opera Software today announced that the Opera browser is included on the new Toshiba W31T. The BREW-based, 20 mm thin Toshiba W31T boasts a 2.4 megapixel camera in addition to full Internet and e-mail capabilities, and is available on KDDI's 3G network in Japan from June 30.
Opera signed an agreement with KDDI in August 2004 to deliver the Opera browser on KDDI's 3G network in Japan. The first phone shipped was the successful Casio W21CA in December 2004, which made Opera the first full Web browser active on the Japanese 3G network.
"Japan is the most technologically advanced market in the world, and the fact that the Opera browser is securing such a strong position in their market is a solid testament to its quality," says Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. "As Japan is a trendsetter in mobile technology we are pleased to see that the Opera browser is starting to become the killer app on their 3G handsets."
"KDDI has chosen Opera to fulfil the promise of 3G capabilities," says Seiichiro Sakai, Ph.D, Director Product Management Department, "au" Service & Product Planning Division "au" Business Sector, KDDI. "Opera's speed, usability and SSR (Small-Screen Rendering) technology make it the perfect mobile Web application, utilizing the speed and versatility of the 3G network."
