Opera Software today announced that ZTE Corporation, China's leading telecommunications manufacturer and wireless solutions provider, has chosen the Opera mobile Web browser for their new GSM mobile phone in China, the e3. The ZTE e3 is an advanced Linux-based smartphone geared toward the Chinese business market, and the first smartphone with Opera to be manufactured by a Chinese device vendor for the Chinese market. The Chinese Technology Development Plan (863) lists the ZTE e3 as one of the most important smartphone projects in China.
With the ZTE e3, Opera is increasing its presence in China. The company has previously announced its cooperation with Datang Mobile Communications Equipment Co., Ltd. to provide China with Opera's full Internet browser for Datang Mobile's TD-SCDMA 3G network. Opera is also included on the Motorola a780 and two Kyocera phones in China.
"China is the fastest growing mobile market in the world, and expected to have over 400 million mobile subscribers by the end of 2005," says Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. "It is an exciting and important market for us, and we're happy to be working with ZTE in providing mobile Web access to the Chinese people."
"With its speed, Small-Screen Rendering and advanced standards support, Opera is the obvious choice for mobile Web browsing," says Tu Bi Qing, Vice President, ZTE Corporation. "The ZTE e3 is an important delivery for us, and we are certain our users will be as impressed with Opera's mobile Web experience as we are."
The ZTE e3 runs on Qtopia Phone Edition delivered by Norwegian Linux solutions provider, Trolltech, and is available on the Chinese GSM network through China Mobile.
