Opera Software today announced that one lucky Opera user will have his or her face on the gigantic ABC SuperSign in New York's Times Square on New Year's Eve. In honor of its dedicated fanbase, Opera has chosen this high profiled venue to celebrate its community of users. Nearly one million party-goers will witness Opera's supersized fan tribute on the 585 square foot (54 square meter) screen.
Opera Software's new mobile Web browser, Opera Mini, received the Gold Mobile award for "Best application for mobile phones" at the annual Swedish Mobilgala event in Stockholm this week. Opera is joined by the winners in other categories, such as Sony Ericsson K750i for best camera phone and Motorola Razr V3 for best design. Opera Software also won two Gold Mobile awards in 2004 for "Best program for mobile phones" and "Best program for handheld computers."
With its 3.7 inch VGA (640x480 pixels) high resolution LCD screen and WLAN connectivity, the Sharp W-ZERO3 is ideal for Web browsing on-the-go. Opera's unique rendering technology dynamically adapts Web pages to fit the width of the screen, providing an Internet experience almost identical to that on a larger PC screen.
Already the safest browsing option available according to independent tests, Opera 8.51 provides additional security fixes that help protect individuals from identity theft and other cyber fears. Javelin Research estimates that more than 9.3 million U.S. citizens had their identity stolen last year, with more than 11% falling victim through online scams.
Opera's latest release addresses the security issue in the Flash Player (Secunia Advisory 17437). Opera 8.51 for Windows ships with Macromedia Flash version 7r61.
