In conjunction with the 3GSM Conference in Cannes, Sony Ericsson P800 mobile phone owners can download the Opera for Symbian OS mobile browser with Small-Screen Rendering technology for free to their phones. With Opera on their phones, P800 owners are the first mobile users who can access the full Internet from their mobile phones. The agreement with Sony Ericsson represents the commercial breakthrough for Opera's Small-Screen Rendering technology introduced in October last year.
"When we planned the features of the P800 we set out to create a phone that is able to access all types of Internet content," says Stefan Streit, Director of Product Marketing, Sony Ericsson. "We are happy to offer P800 consumers free access to the Opera browser as it provides extended support for non-standard Street HTML, JavaScript and frames in the Sony Ericsson P800."
Opera's Small-Screen Rendering technology has cracked the small-screen problem that has plagued the mobile internet for years. With Small-Screen Rendering, Opera reformats the presentation of pages made for the desktop Web to fit on a smaller screen, eliminating the need for horizontal scrolling.
"Opera's new technology benefits everyone," says Lars Boilesen, executive vice president sales and distribution, Opera Software ASA. "Users can enjoy access to their favorite Internet content and services from their mobile phones, while network operators will see an increase in their average revenue per user."
The Opera for the P800 browser can be downloaded for free from Monday, Feb. 17, 2003. For more information about Opera's SSR technology or to contact Opera Software ASA about including Opera on your device, please go to www.opera.com.
