Opera Software, the manufacturer of Opera, the world's fastest Internet browser and Tucows Inc., a leading distributor of e-business services and applications on the Internet, today unveiled their new co-branded browser on the Tucows Web site www.tucows.com. The new browser has all of the existing Opera browser's features and functionality. In addition, the browser will be Tucows-branded and have the Hot List and Start Pages link directly to various Tucows software libraries and services. This will enable Tucows to offer their services more directly to its users.
Tucows' domain name registration service, Domain Direct, will also be incorporated into the new browser, offering users the ability to easily register and manage domain names. Users can search for and register a domain name anytime by simply clicking on a link in the button bar. They will also be able to set up multiple e-mail accounts, forward domain names and manage their domains.
"This partnership means we will be able to offer users a direct 'portal' to Tucows' products and services," says Graham Morris, Executive Vice President of Content, Tucows. "The co-branded browser is an exciting opportunity for us and the partnership allows us to provide users with continuous access to Tucows."
Other browser manufacturers, Microsoft and AOL/Netscape, are tying their browsers more and more into their other Web ventures. Microsoft recently took steps in this direction with the launch of their MSN Explorer browser. "Microsoft and AOL/Netscape are directly competing with every portal and ISP around the world," says Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software, "As the only independent browser maker, Opera is in a unique position to help portals and ISPs to fight back," he concludes.
The first version of the new browser is available in English only: Other languages may roll out at a later date.
