Dear everyone,
Opera has grown as a company. With the launch of Opera 4.0 for Windows and its tremendous success (around a million downloads during the first week), we have placed ourselves as one of the major players on the Net, with subsequent attention.
Unfortunately such a status has also brought on another problem: the attention of one or more malicious hackers.
From Tuesday, August 21st we came under a vicious attack that denied access to Opera.com and MyOpera. That is the price of success, and something which we have to guard ourselves against even harder in the future. Unfortunately it is never possible to completely secure yourself against attacks, as the recent attacks on Yahoo and E-Bay has shown, and it is just such an attack we experienced.
I would like to thank all you users out there who patiently waited for us to come online again. Those of you who sent me e-mails were also a great encouragement.
Opera is a small organization, with limited resources, still so many of the people in the organization worked night and day to solve the problem. Thanks! It is just a shame that forces out there waste your time like this.
Thank you all for your support. Without you there would be no Opera.
