Opera Software today announced an agreement with AMD, to cooperatively develop leading browser solutions for the embedded market. The solutions are intended for design engineers creating Internet appliances, set top boxes, web pads, and similar products.
Under the agreement, the two companies are planning to develop advanced Web browser solutions combining Opera's browser software with AMD's line of embedded 32-bit processors, including the AMD-K-6 (TM) E family, Elan(TM)SC400 and ElanSC520 processor families.
Opera's browser solutions bring exceptional performance and functionality to the embedded market. Devices such as Internet appliances and set top boxes with Opera's light-weight, fully featured, standards based, browser software and AMD's processors will be designed to provide consumers with superior devices at a very competitive price.
The agreement permits AMD and Opera to assist each other's respective development efforts, and to exchange hardware, software, technical support and documentation to further those efforts.
"Devices such as Internet appliances, Web phones and set top boxes are the future of the Internet and demand is rising exponentially. We believe that Opera's software working in conjunction with AMD's hardware will provide the best solution from any device" said Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO Opera Software.
