Changelog for Opera 8.0 for Symbian Series 60

Opera 8.0 for Symbian Series 60 is available for download. The last public release of Opera for Series 60 was 6.20.

Release Note

This Opera version runs only on Symbian OS 7.0 and higher. It will not work on older Symbian 6.1 handsets, such as 7650, 3650, N-Gage, SX1, and Sendo X.

Main Changes since Opera 6.20

User interface

  • Integrated support for the Opera Mobile Accelerator.
  • Now using four-way navigation on all pages; moving the joystick in any direction moves focus to the next link in that direction. When browsing with Fit to screen turned off, moving the joystick left or right also scrolls horizontally.
  • File uploads now have access to both the Nokia folder on the C drive and the entire memory card.
  • Simplified handling of file downloads. Users will be prompted if attempting to download a file which is not supported by any application on the device.
  • Simplified form interaction.
  • Home page setting now allows setting current, default, or user defined.
  • The cache size setting is now Small (0.5 MB), Medium (1 MB), or Large (2 MB). The default setting is Medium.
  • A padlock icon is displayed when visiting secure sites.
  • Context sensitive "Submit" entry added to the Options menu for forms missing a "Submit" button.

Display and standards

  • Implemented Opera's Extensible Rendering Architecture (ERA), which significantly improves Fit to screen mode, and adjusts better to different screen sizes.
  • New rendering engine improves rendering quality and speed.
  • Implemented support for the DOM level 2, and for DOM level 3 Load and Save.
  • Added support for page/document reflow.
  • 100% ECMAScript support.
  • Complete WML 1.3 and 2.0 support.
  • Improved support for HTML 4.01.
