Core Technology Testers (Web technology experts)

Opera is looking for experienced Web developers and software testers to join our Core Technology department as Core Technology Testers.
The Core Technology department develops and maintains our cross-platform browser engine, which runs on a myriad of different platforms and devices and is used by millions of people every day. The job of a Core Technology Tester is to ensure that the next generation of our browser engine is working as intended, before it is released to the public.
Responsibilities
- Analyzing incoming bug reports, finding the root cause of why certain sites are not working properly in Opera
- Contributing to Web standards development in W3C, WHATWG and other standardization bodies
- Writing test cases and automate test suites to verify Opera's compliance with Web standards and other requirements
- Monitoring our army of busy test machines, filing and following up on bug reports, whenever they discover a failing test
- Writing new tools for test automation
- Inquisitively testing any feature being developed, aiming to uncover bugs and errors, so we can fix them before they can cause trouble for end users or business customers
Requirements
Ideal candidates must be able to work independently, have good working knowledge of English and have several of the following characteristics:
- Excellent knowledge of web standards—we need JavaScript wizards, CSS black belts and markup gurus
- Experience with building cross-browser and cross-platform web applications
- Experience with quality assurance processes and software testing
- Good scripting skills—JavaScript and Ruby are our most commonly used languages for test automation, but proficiency in any language is fine
- The ability to make just about anything break
- Experience with more than one operating system
