Roadmap

Opera Turbo revs up the Internet experience

Product Manager Oleg Tukh discusses Opera Turbo

As the online world grows crowded with users worldwide, using PCs, mobile phones and other devices, the pathways to Web access become more challenging but exceedingly important to maintain. To keep up with growth, as usage expands and convergence becomes a reality, network operators and OEMs are faced with limited network resources, which they must optimize to allow more users to be active without compromising the user experience.

Opera Software supports One Web with its vision of delivering "the best Internet experience on any device", regardless of when, where or how a user accesses the Internet. Opera Turbo is a key component in delivering "convergence without compromise" - the same content, the full Web, across the full array of Internet-enabled devices. Delivering One Web requires both enabling and equalizing access by creating and improving the technology used to access the Web.

As demand for on-the-go connectivity rises, solutions for mobile Internet browsing are becoming increasingly important.

Turbo man

Opera Software's Oleg Tukh explains, "As demand for on-the-go connectivity rises, solutions for mobile Internet browsing are becoming increasingly important. Opera Turbo allows operators to maintain cost control and utilize network resources more efficiently, while providing a high quality service to consumers."

According to Tukh, another advantage of Opera Turbo is that it allows for faster browsing when switching or roaming between networks. When too many users are using the same infrastructure at the same time, the user experience can be slow and frustrating, even when browsing simple Web pages. Opera Turbo gives users the freedom to roam between networks, ensuring a great user experience.

Turbo compression

Additionally, Tukh continues, "In regions where broadband Internet connectivity is not widespread, or the network infrastructure is underdeveloped, Opera Turbo ensures a better user experience by compressing traffic and reducing the amount of data that a browser has to download. More efficient use of the mobile network means that more users can be online at the same time, and this directly supports our vision of delivering One Web to all."

Opera Software will showcase Opera Turbo at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, February 16-19.
