One Web: Unlimited possibilities

I am pleased to welcome you to the second edition of Opera Insights, our quarterly newsletter. This issue focuses on our long-term mission to support the idea of One Web.

To Opera, One Web means being able to take the one true Web and make it available to people on their own terms.

In the last Opera Insights newsletter, Yankee Group analysts stated that there really is only one, true Web. "It is not a mobile Web and a desktop Web and a set-top-box Web but One Web, one Internet." This means that with fundamentals, like Web standards, and technical innovations supporting widespread accessibility, people are able to access the same familiar Web content seamlessly on any device.

People are able to access the same familiar Web content seamlessly on any device.

With Opera technology and support for Web standards that enable the same Internet experience (regardless of device), Opera contributes to the full One Web idea. Opera is a leader in the W3C and drives the creation of standards for Web applications/widgets with its leadership in the W3C WebApps Working Group. Opera also actively participates in the creation of other industry standards across the range of devices, such as within the IPTV Forum. For example, Opera actively contributed to the recently published IPTV solution specifications as part of the push for widespread use of IPTV.

Additionally, Opera's commitment to One Web involves enhancing the Web-browsing experience on every Internet-enabled device. Opera constantly innovates, creating services like Opera Turbo, which offers network-optimizing data compression and improved browser performance, while also improving Opera's underlying technology, such as with the new Carakan JavaScript engine. Opera actively looks for ways to enable full Web accessibility, whether that means contributing to open standards, developing technologies to compensate for less powerful hardware on devices or helping partners maximize their network resources.

We are proud to bring our 14-year history of technical excellence to our partners and users around the world. As they turn to us to help unify and enhance their Internet-enabled products and services, they are able to focus on what matters most: delighting the people who use those products and services. For us, it is all about supporting One Web. For our partners, it's all about the unlimited possibilities created by One Web.
