How much control do you have over your app data? It might live its own life without you even realizing. Fortunately, Opera Max can put you back in control. Opera Max is our free data-management and data-savings app for Android. It shrinks data for videos, photos and more across most Android apps.

Download Opera Max from Google Play if you haven’t tried it yet and give it a spin today.

Below are three more ways in which you can check your apps’ data-saving potential:

Take advantage of the app suggestion card

Whenever you launch Opera Max,  whether you’re on a mobile or Wi-Fi connection, you are presented with a launcher card. This card will show you the apps for which we have optimized savings, based on average app data. So, you’ll be able to see if, for example, you can save more data on Saavn or Gaana when you listen to music.

Check timelines for individual app data

Opera Max registers app data in three different timelines, for both mobile and Wi-Fi:

  • on the “Today” timeline, you can see app consumption and savings as they are registered chronologically for the current day;
  • on the “This month” timeline, you can sort app data by total usage or savings for the current month;
  • on the “All-time” timeline, you can see how much data you’ve used and saved since the day you installed Opera Max.

Need a reminder? Search for apps with high savings

If you’ve dismissed the launcher card, go to “Settings” in the hamburger menu and look for the “Help” section. When you press “Apps with great savings”, Opera Max will scan your device and show you apps with great potential (based on average app data savings). And the animation is pretty fun, too.

    Hello, are you going to make a version for iPhone??

    • Anda Somodea

      Hi David. We are very focused on Android at the moment and we have a list of features we want to develop first. I’m definitely rooting for iOS, but that’s not in the plans for the near future.

      • David Brindson

        Thank you Anda for your reply, anyway, I know you are doing your best!

        • Anda Somodea

          Glad I could answer 🙂

    Please include somewhere the amount of upload data as well so we can know the total MB we have used from our mobile data plan.

    • Steffen Ingdal Olsen

      I think they already do that 🙂

      • xirit64

        No, it shows only the download data of any app and the only upload data sum you can see is during a particular session, by tapping on “manage vpn”. If you disconnect from a Max session though, the fun ends 🙂

    As more and more websites gets HTTPS-encrypted, we save less data, so u guys in Opera has to find a way to compress HTTPS websites too! 🙂 Don’t forget videos too!

    • Anda Somodea

      Very true, Steffen, HTTPS-encryption will prove more challenging in the future. On the other hand, I’m happy to see there’s a trend in the industry towards developing more data-efficient products. 😉
