PC World, one of the world’s leading technology publications, recently took a more in-depth look at the top 5 web browsers for computers: Opera, Firefox, Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer. To choose the best web browser of 2015, they compared such important factors as ease of use, efficiency and speed.

For their “real-world” browser speed test PC World editors picked a selection of 30 different websites, such as Amazon or CNN. To find the fastest browser, they opened these pages in new tabs one after another – just like we naturally do when we surf – and checked how long it takes different browsers to load the pages.

So, who won?

According to this test, it was Opera that performed as the fastest browser. During the experiment, Opera 31 with no Flash loaded pages in just 1.64 sec. With a Flash plug-in, it required only 2.21 sec to open a page. It’s faster than Google Chrome 44 (1.8 sec and 2.33 sec, respectively), and much faster than Firefox 39 (2.6 sec. and 5.59 sec).

Opera named the fastest browser in a 2015 test

1.64 sec! That’s pretty quick!

Speed is one of our top priorities, and we constantly add improvements to make your surfing experience in Opera a breeze.

I am not a speed addict. Everything on Opera is fine. Except Speed Dial and sync.
Firefox syncs everything including extensions: the only reason to switch to it.
And speed dial was the reason I started to use Opera but I can’t see it ready when I enable sync. I know I can find them in bookmarks but I want them in speeddial when I log in to my account. Does it work properly on your Opera?

    • jedy123

Opera has the best native Speed Dial of any browser imo. Firefox can be as good if you use a plugin. Vivaldi’s Tech Preview 4 Speed Dial just isn’t the same as Opera’s as I find there are too many annoying niggles with it.

    • @muratservan:disqus, we don’t merge your SDs, because many users asked to get different SDs for Desktop and Mobile. But still you have access to it. Go to Bookmarks->Other Speed Dials.

Well according to the article Opera finishes a close second to Chrome. This doesn’t mean a lot to me because every time I’ve tried Chrome I’ve hated it. The article fails to take into account that Opera can use Chrome extensions. Personally I gave up on benchmark tests long ago as all browsers are pretty fast these days and Opera is no longer plagued with rendering issues since the move away from the Presto engine.

    • I feel that my daily work has sense, when I read such well-balanced opinion.

Let me know if you could do anything better for you.

      • bob

I use Opera on Linux Mint ,it works very fast on my little atom net book …but I wonder if everything is still supported ,can I still do banking without worry?

        • If you mean the latest version of Opera 12, then yes. It is still supported. However, we strongly suggest you to upgrade to newest Opera version.

  • Stanislav Stratil

And Im returning to firefox, beacuse Opera is too slow in my case. Its exactly like in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scO9uzXuago
I have tryed clean install, and still the same.
    Win 10 Home x64, Opera 32 Stable.

    • Wow! That’s super SLOW, it looks like a bug to me.

May I ask you to turn of *all* extensions and plugins for the test purposes. Then repeat.

      • Stanislav Stratil

Thank you for reply. I wrote more informations about it here: https://forums.opera.com/discussion/1868248/slow-loading#Item_4
So, you can check it. But maybe its because I have old computer.
        AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4000+ 2,10 GHz
        4 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT 1 GB

And for your question – disabled all extensions (im using only 5) and still the same. But there is one thing I have discovered. When I turn off any other application, like steam, skype, media player, its little better. Not perfect but better. And when Im on the webpage, and open some link in current tab its ok. This slowness is only affecting opening links from speed dial, opening links in new tab, and opening any opera page (settings, history, etc)

I would be really happy, if you can fix it somehow.

        • Aneta Reluga

I responded to you on the Opera forum – could you please refer to that. We’d like to help but we need details. Thanks in advance!

          • Stanislav Stratil

Yes, thank you. I answered on the forum now.

The test is not complete without Safari. Why you don’t compare with Safari??

    BS.

  • Lacedaemon

Speed is not what it matters the most, quality matters equally and your browser blinks heavily, which is a big stub in quality, while Firefox and Presto do not at all. Quality.

  • Yeah, Opera beta is fast, that is why I am using it, for now. But if you dont fix the autorefresh menace I will change back to Firefox. As far as I can see there is no option to stop autorefresh on Opera beta. Why is that?
