During the past months, we’ve given a lighter look and feel to our mobile browsers. In the same spirit, we have now made a new version of Opera Mini for Android to look and feel just as great.

You can get Opera Mini for Android beta from Google Play Store.

This beta version marks the start of a transition for Opera Mini for Android. Using Opera for Android as a starting point, we created a lightweight browser that runs on Android 2.3 and higher. We need your feedback on what works and what can be improved. We want to make sure that you are pleased with our product.

With this beta version, you can of course get up to 90% data savings, saving you time and money while getting around the web faster.

We also added the option to browse privately with private tabs, letting you go anywhere on the internet without leaving a trace on your device.

Here’s what else you can expect after you download Opera Mini for Android beta:

Customize your layout

Choose between three different styles for your browser. Go to settings, select App layout and choose between: Phone, which maximizes the viewing area; Classic, which makes for easier one-handed navigation; or Tablet, which makes it easier to switch between tabs.

See your daily savings

Tap the Opera logo and get an overview of how much data you’ve used and how much you’ve saved.

Sync and share your bookmarks

Bookmark a site and don’t miss out on anything when switching between your phone and computer. You can also share your bookmarks with friends.

Manage your tabs easily

Get a good overview of all your tabs. Tap to open a tab, or swipe to remove one.

Save your favorite sites

Tap the “+” button on the combined address and search bar to save a page to Opera Mini’s Speed Dial start page, to your mobile bookmarks or to read it offline.

There’s a lot more to experience with the Opera Mini for Android beta – new features and styles – all waiting for you. This version will not impact your current version of Opera Mini on Android. So, try out the Opera Mini beta and let us know what you think.

You can also give your feedback in the Opera forums.

Like it: looks good and fast. But I miss the RSS feature(“feed://list”) I hope it will be back.

  • Berend

To bad, no change to switch languages. Would be nice to switch to another language than automatic use the android versions

  • Švabenzi Matori

Why you dropped support for froyo?

    Still the best android OS.

  • Tore

Would it be possible to get a “Maximum number of columns” setting on the mobile versions of Opera? It would be really nice if I could lock the number of columns in the speed dials, and know exactly where each speed dial is, without wondering if rotating the phone made the screen size wider and allowed Opera to reflow my speed dials.

What is actually the difference between the normal Opera browser for android ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.opera.browser ) and the Opera mini browser for android ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.opera.mini.native )?

good question even i ask myself right now this question

      • anonym

opera mini has no rendering engine within the program. all rendering is done on the servers and sent as some pre-rendered files.

opera mobile (or simply opera browser) is a complete browser.

how i choose the best one for my phone “Note 4”

          • Juan Carlos Alpizar Chinchilla

Opera mini is meant for phones with low specs, slow internet connection and to save mobile data.

If your phone doesn’t meet the first two you can go for the Opera Mobile, cause they added a data saving in that one too.

          • sahil

opera mobile is best but if u want ur data to last longer then opera mini is ur choice , but it comes with less bells and whistles

    • sahil

opera mini is not really is ‘full fledge’ browser. the page which is requested is send to opera server then it get compressed then that compressed page is send to opera mini ( without any java and all,, moreover on opera server they can see what u r browsing as every single thing pass through server first)

on the other hand opera mobile is stand alone web browser and nothing is send to their server

Page rendering is better in stable version, needs improvement here.

Bookmarks are from current desktop(blink), not same as old bookmarks being sync’d in stable version.
Any option to migrate the old bookmarks ad saved pages? Many users use only Opera Mini so this should not be ignored.

Interface and features are very much like Opera for Android, except history tab and user agent option which I could clearly notice.

Menu in tablet mode almost fills the screen, can be further reduced by adding 2nd row of icons consisting of history, downloads, settings, exit.

Does not work. Startscreen says no connection to the internet.

  • Deepro Bhattacharyya

I suggest opera add the following features to the opera mini beta for android:
    1.Night Mode
2.Option to turn off home page
3.Importing speed dial when signed in using opera link.

    • Kouta84

also Desktop Mode and hide Status Bar

Why can I not download video’s now on opera mini? I’ve never had a problem before but now it’s just not working since the update.

  • Daniel

Please add Opera Turbo Mode in addition to Opera Mini mode just like the iOS version. It would be really nice since Opera Classic is no longer updated with features.

  • Mad

I am so disappointed in this update, you have gotten rid of all of the good features I had come to love from opera. It’s now just a shitty chrome emulator .
