অপেরার সাথে ‘’জি সামদানি ডন’’ এর কথোপকথন

৩১ ,২০১৬ অগাস্ট, অপেরা কথা বলে এমন একজন অনুপ্রেরকের সাথে যিনি হাজারো মানুষকে প্রেরণা দেন আরও কিছু করার জন্য।

আপনার পেশাটি বেশ ভিন্ন। কিভাবে আপনি এ যাত্রা শুরু করেন?
জি সামদানি ডনঃ আমি অধ্যাপনা করতে ভালবাসি। ও’লেভেল শেষে আমি ছাত্র পড়ান শুরু করি। তারপর থেকে, আমি সবসময় শিক্ষার সাথে জড়িত থাকি। এমনকি যখন আমি পুরো সময় কাজ শুরু করি, ছুটির দিনে আমি গৃহশিক্ষক হিসেবে ছাত্র পড়াই , আমার পরিবার তখন ভাবত আমি বুঝি নাট। মৃদু হেসে জবাব দিয়ে গেলেন জি সামদানি ডন। তারই সাথে ইস্ট ওয়েস্ট ইউনিভার্সিটি, ইউল্যাব এবং বিডি জবস এ ছোট মাপের শিক্ষকতা শুরু করি। যখন আমি ফিলিপ মরিস আন্তর্জাতিক এ কর্মরত ছিলাম, আমার কান্ট্রি ম্যানেজার শিক্ষার জন্য আমার ভালবাসা স্বীকৃত করেন এবং আমাকে এশিয়া আঞ্চলিক প্রশিক্ষক এক হিসাবে মনোনীত করেন। কিন্তু ঠিক তার পরেই, আমি ছিনতাই এর স্বীকার হই এবং পায়ে গুলিবিদ্ধ হই। এই অভিজ্ঞতা আমার জীবনে পরিবর্তন করে দেয়, সার্জারি এবং হাসপাতালে থাকাকালীন জীবনে অর্থপূর্ণ কিছু করার কথা ভাবি। আমি আমার চাকুরি ছেড়ে দেবার সিদ্ধান্ত নেই এবং প্রায় এক বছরের মধ্যে আমার নিজের প্রতিষ্ঠানের যাত্রা শুরু করি। আজ, আমি মার্কেটের সব বড় নামের সঙ্গে কাজ করার অভিজ্ঞতা অর্জন করেছি।

বাংলাদেশে আপনার রোল মডেল কারা?
জি সামদানি ডন: বাংলাদেশে বিশ্বের ১ নম্বর অলরাউন্ডার সাকিব আল হাসান আছে। ওয়াসফিয়া নাজরীন আছে, জনাব শেহজাদ মুনিম, যিনি প্রথম বাংলাদেশী বিএটি বাংলাদেশের ম্যানেজিং ডিরেক্টর হিসেবে কর্মরত হন। তিনি গোড়া থেকে শুরু করেন এবং এখন দেখুন, তিনি কোথায়! অথচ তিনি আমাদেরই একজন। আমাকে অহংকার বোধ করে তোলে যখন তাকাই ডঃ মুহাম্মদ ইউনূসের দিকে। এরাই আমাকে গভীরভাবে অনুপ্রাণিত করেI যদি সাকিব বিশ্বব্যাপী ক্রিকেটে নম্বর 1 হতে পারে এবং যদি মোস্তাফিুর রহমান বোলার মুস্তাফিজ হতে পারে, তাহলে আমিও আমার ক্ষেত্রে একটি ডন সামদানি হতে পারি।

আমাদের ব্র্যান্ডের দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি ‘’Do More’’ নিয়ে কথা বলা যাক। মুনা নামের একটি মেয়ে যিনি নিজের বেতন দিয়ে সুবিধাবঞ্ছিত শিশুদের পার্কে নিয়ে যান। তিনি কাজের জন্য স্বীকৃতি কোন ধরনের চান না। অনেকের মতে, এটিই ‘’Do More’’ । আপনার মতে ‘’Do More’’ কি?
জি সামদানি ডন: আমাদের সবার কাছে দিনে ২৪ ঘণ্টা আছে। অনেকে আছে যারা এই সময়টাকে অর্থপূর্ণ ভাবে কাজে লাগায়। আবার অনেকে আছে যারা এই সময়ে কিছুই করেন না ,চাকরিতে যান, ফিরেন এবং ঘুমান। সময়ের সবচেয়ে বেশি সঠিক ব্যবহার করাটাই আমার কাছে ‘’Do More’’। যেই মেয়েটির কথা আপনি উল্লেখ করলেন, কাজের পাশাপাশি সে সমাজের জন্য কিছু করছে। সবার নিজেদের পেশার পাশপাশি এমন কিছু করা উচিৎ যা অপরের উপর অন্যতম প্রভাব ফেলে।

আপনার ব্যক্তি জীবনে দেখা do more? কোন ঘটনার উদাহরণ আছে কি?
জি সামদানি ডন: আমার বন্ধু সালমান যে গ্রামীণফোনের জন্য কাজ করে, সে বাংলাদেশে TedX এর লাইসেন্স আনে। আমি মনে করি এটাই do more। হাজার হাজার মানুষ , বক্তা সেখানে আসেন এবং তাদের নিজস্ব উপায়ে কিছু করতে পারেন। Do more এর আরও অনেক দৃষ্টান্ত আছে। এম এস শাকুফে ,লিপিং বাউন্দারিস, যিনি মাদ্রাসার শিশুদের জন্য কাজ করেন, আমার মতে এটি অসাধারণ। বাংলা ইংরেজি শিক্ষার পাশাপাশি এখানে শিশুদের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ জীবন-দক্ষতার শিক্ষা দেওয়া হয় যা তাদের অনুপ্রেরণা দেয় এবং আত্মসম্মান গড়ে তুলে।

আপনি মোবাইল ইন্টারনেট ব্যাবহার করেন কি? এর গুরুত্ব আপনার কাছে কতটুকু?
জি সামদানি ডন: আমি এটা খুব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মনে করি. যখনই আপনি কিছু পড়ছেন সে অবস্থায় কিছু মনে আসছে না বা যখন আপনি কাজ করছেন অথবা আপনি কোথাও যাচ্ছেন, আপনি সহজেই আপনার মোবাইল ব্রাউজারে যেকোনো তথ্য দেখতে পারেন। এখনকার সময় যখন জ্ঞানই শক্তি, সহজেই প্রবেশযোগ্য তথ্য দরকার। বরং আমি অপেক্ষায় আছি সেইদিনের যখন মোবাইল পেমেন্ট ইন্টারনেট এর মাধ্যমে আরও সহজ হবে। আমার দৃষ্টি বংলাদেশের প্রত্যন্ত অঞ্চলের মানুষদের ইন্টারনেটের মাধ্যমে সারা দেশ ভ্রমনের প্রশিক্ষন দেওয়া। যেন ২০-৫০ টাকায় তারা আমার লাইভ সেশনে যোগ দিতে পারে।

আপনি আগে অপেরা মিনি ব্রাউজার ব্যবহার করেছেন?
জি সামদানি ডন: অবশ্যই ব্যবহার করেছি। আমি একটি আইফোন ব্যবহার করি এবং আমি তাতে বিভিন্ন ব্রাউজার ব্যবহার করার চেষ্টা করেছি. আমি মনে করি অপেরা মিনি ব্রাউজার মোবাইল ফোনের জন্য একটি জনপ্রিয় ব্রাউজার এবং এটা স্পষ্টভাবে আইফোন এর ডিফল্ট ব্রাউজার, সাফারির চেয়েও ভাল। সুতরাং, আমি সবাইকে বলব অপেরা মিনি ব্রাউজার ব্যাবহার করার জন্য এবং আমি আশা করি এটা তাদের ফোনের যেকোনো ডিফল্ট ব্রাউজার থেকে ভালো পারফরম্যান্স দিবে।

অপেরা মিনিতে কম ডাটা খরচে ব্রাউজ করা যায়, এটি কি আপনি জানেন ?
জি সামদানি ডন: আসলে আমি এটা জানতাম না। তবে এটা আমি নিশ্চিত, এই সুবিধাটা অনেক ছাত্রদের সাহায্য করবে। আমি যখন ছাত্র ছিলাম, ১০ টাকা খরচও আমি অনেক বড় বিষয় মনে করতাম।

On 31st August 2016, Opera spoke with inspirational figure G Sumdany Don, who has acted as a catalyst for thousands of people to do more in their lives. Let’s find out what his journey has been like.

Your profession is quite a unique one. How did you start this journey?
G Sumdany Don: I thought that I wanted to do something meaningful in life. I loved teaching! After completing my O levels, I started tutoring students. Ever since then, I have always been involved in teaching. Even when I started working full-time, I would tutor students during the weekends and my family would think that I have gone nuts! I also started teaching at East West University, ULAB and bdjobs on a small-scale. When I was working at Philip Morris International, my Country Manager recognized my love for teaching and nominated me as one of the regional trainers for Asia. But soon after that, I got mugged and got shot in my leg. This experience changed my life. I was hospitalized and had to undergo a surgery. I decided to quit my job and it took me about a year to do so and start my own company. Today, I am working with all the big names in the market.

Who are your role models from Bangladesh?
G Sumdany Don: In Bangladesh, we have Shakib Al Hasan. He’s no.1 in the world! Then, there’s Wasfia Nazreen. We also have Mr. Shehzad Munim, who is the first Bangladeshi to become the Managing Director of BAT Bangladesh. He started from scratch, and now look where he is. He’s just one of us. It makes me feel so happy and proud. Look at Dr. Muhammad Yunus. These are the people who deeply inspire me. I feel like, if Shakib can be no.1 in worldwide cricket and if Mustafiz can be Mustafiz, then I can also become a Don Sumdany in my field.

Opera: Let’s talk about the brand philosophy of Opera, which is ‘Do More’. There is a girl called Muna who takes underprivileged children to the amusement park from her own salary. She doesn’t want any kind of recognition for what she does. So this, according to a lot of people, is doing more. What according to you is do more?
G Sumdany Don: We all have 24 hours in a day. There are people who do things that are very meaningful with this time. Then, there are others who just go to work, come back home, and go to sleep. I think making the most of your time is doing more. It means, if you want to be great, you have to do great work. If you want to be extraordinary, then you have to do a little extra. Just like the girl you mentioned who is doing something of social importance alongside her work, everyone should do something apart from their profession that has a positive impact on other people’s life. So according to me, making a positive impact on other people’s life is doing more.

Opera: In these classes that you take, do you use mobile internet? What is the importance of mobile internet in your life
G Sumdany Don: I think it is very important. Whenever something comes up on your mind while you are studying or when you are at work or if you are going somewhere, you can easily look it up on your mobile browsers. During times like this, when knowledge is considered power and knowledge is money, you have to be equipped with easily accessible data all the time. So what better way to access this information than mobile phones? So, I do think mobile internet is very important. In fact, I am waiting for the time when mobile payments through internet will be easily available. My vision is to train people living in remote villages in Bangladesh who cannot travel all the way to Dhaka, but they can attend my live training sessions via the internet, for say, 20 taka.

Opera: Did you know that Opera actually consumes less data while browsing?
G Sumdany Don: Actually, I did not know that. I’m sure this would help a lot of students. When I was a student, even spending 10 taka would bother me.

Opera: Have you used Opera Mini Browser before?
G Sumdany Don: I have. I use an iPhone and I have tried using different browsers on it. I think the Opera Mini Browser is a popular browser for mobile phones and it is definitely better than the iPhone’s default browser, Safari. So, I urge all the readers to check out Opera Mini Browser and I am sure it will give them a better performance than their phone’s default browsers.
