Hi,

We’re getting close to finalizing Opera 44 stable. Today, we want to share with you the release candidate.

  • There are few fixes backported and new translations included in this build.
  • Chromium was updated to version 57.0.2987.88.

Let us know if there is anything worrisome happening that would not make this stable build worthy. And stay close, because Opera 44 is coming 🙂

The changelog contains full list of changes.

I’d like to know if these bugs have been fixed in the Windows version:
    – left clicks on hyperlinks are randomly ignored if the horizontal link selection is enabled
    https://disqus.com/home/discussion/operablogdesktop/private_opera_43_squeezes_page_loading_time_to_its_limits/#comment-3152951158
    – the Find in page function does not work on some websites – the phrase is not highlighted unless the find box is closed. https://disqus.com/home/discussion/operablogdesktop/private_opera_stable_43024421144_update/#comment-3190682338
    – extension icons at the URL bar are reduced in size.
    Can someone test it, please?

Please add UK as a vpn location to Opera Vpn.

  • The bug concerning changed window height after closing attached dev tools is still there 🙁

Hi Kornelia. Any chance that we get a fix for DNAWIZ-13066 soon? It’s quite serious and easy to reproduce.

    • Kornelia

Moved to DNA project. Will be investigated.

    Hi,
I’m experiencing some kind of very severe memory bug when streaming video. If I watch a youtube video and pull up the task manager, I can watch the memory usage for the Opera Beta process filling up in real time. Pretty soon it’s using over 3gb of memory and then Opera crashes saying it’s run out of memory. The memory isn’t freed even if I close the tab and completely clear cache and everything. I have to restart Opera completely.

Ditto, It’s been reported in the community since Nov/Dec 2016 after 42 release. No subsequent release has addressed it. Mine started about 2-3 weeks or so ago. Crashes occurred while at other sites but didn’t connect the YouTube part with the crashes until yesterday. Other sites have been reported to cause same problem with memory leaks (?). For some, not all, the bandaid fix has been to turn off VPN, which sucks. Turned mine off yesterday and speed difference was large and no crashing so far. Win 7 64, 8GB, latest stable (43) Opera. Was hoping a better fix would show in the 43 release. Maybe 44 will be the magic number.

Error opening files from a local drive. html and pdf

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. create or save the file to a directory on the local disk, in whose name the present symbol # .
    example c:temp#manfilename.pdf
    2. in Windows Explorer, select the c:temp#manfilename.pdf to open in Opera.

    Actual result:
Opera will display the contents of the directory upper #man, ie c:temp

    Expected result:
    should open the file filename.pdf

    DNAWIZ-9057

    • Kornelia

We’ve got this on our radars .

  • Did not fix the error that removes active downloads while cleaning the list of already downloaded files. Fix it, please.

      THISSSS VERY ANNOYING!!

  • tankfeeder

Windows 10, opera stable and beta on youtube-vimeo eats memory, a lot. Find me on twitter @tankfeeder if you want to run debug session. On Home PC all fine.

    • tankfeeder

chrome, firefox, vivaldi, yandex ok on youtube at the same time.

    • jckinswo

Same with Windows 7 64, latest Opera stable. Has been reported for last 3-4 months.

      • tankfeeder

Its so strange. Like back to Opera 12 when they didnt fix bugs. History repeating.

        • Ari

Yeah…I wonder what devs do all day.. hmmm…
          /Ironic off

Now seeing a recent note quoting a mod who says they’re having a hard time replicating the “out of memory” leak/problem on their servers/machines which is why it’s taking so long to fix. So, they’re at least paying attention and trying but not making that effort well-known. I had turned VPN off for all but brief periods for the last 2+ weeks and had no problems, YouTube open or not. Just got through trying it again. Using my old win 7 64 w/16gb RAM and latest non-beta Opera; leaving VPN on and a number of windows open (even as few as 5 or 6) for 48 hrs +/- (I leave the beast on for a week or more) at any site or sites w/med/heavy “graphics” processing (e.g. ebay and/or fb and/or ancestry) caused committed memory specifically for Opera to rise to 1GB, then 2GB and then 3GB over time (I have Resource Monitor running at all times) with the “out of memory” warning then occurring. Having YouTube or other video/streaming services “on” appears to speed up the process a lot but are not necessary for it to occur as some are stating (at least in my latest experience). Closing a few or all but one of the Opera windows will not help. Little or no release of memory. VPN had to be turned off (big release of mem.) and then all Opera windows have to be shut down for all memory to be released (as of 4/5/17). Just my PE. Your mileage may vary. Something with VPN and its interactions with a change or changes made starting with 42 appears to be the culprit. Any changes to VPN around that time as well I wonder? Sorry for the length…

Hello! We really miss the “Search for text when I start typing” option from Windows versions, please-please make this very comfty setting available!
It is very handy if we just type some words without pressing Ctrl F or F3 first… This is the one and only feature that we miss very much from Opera (we used Firefox before).
    Thank you!

How to refresh URL that had HTTP redirect (301 moved permamently), but now there is new website? Opera 44.0.2510.849 – after restart Opera still redirects, also I cannot refresh (shift+f5) because url redirects immediately to other domain.

    • Try clearing the browser cache.

      • mrfx

        Yes it has helped. Thanks.

  • Vlad Violenty

    i add repo http://ppa.launchpad.net/canonical-chromium-builds/stage/ubuntu
may be because of chromium-codecs-ffmpeg version is 57?

    • Andrew Andreyuk

      > may be because of chromium-codecs-ffmpeg version is 57
Same problem here. Need same major version as opera chromium…
      Works fine with 56 version.
      PS: до следующего апдейта, азаза

      • Vlad Violenty

сук, тогда вопрос в том как поставить 56 версию хромиум кодеков, если в репах убунты 55 последняя?

Opera, may be you create opera-ffmpeg-codec ???

Page still doesn’t complete loading (wheels turn on and on, like the song). Don’t know which end the problem is. Have reported it here and there.

    • Leonardo Gomes

I can se the ‘wheels’ spinning on Beta 44 but not in Developer 45.

  • Gábor Kovács

  • Luk_asz

Hi.Please add emty (transparent) shortcut in speed dial,or give option to disable auto order.

  • piero

Hi. Keyboard shortcut to enable or disable display of images please to slow connections. Thks

    • Leonardo Gomes

Can’t you add one using the keyboard shortcut manager?

      • Andrey

You know option for enable/disable images in keyboard shortcut manager?

      • piero

I did not find how to configure this or create it

        • Leonardo Gomes

You can find the shortcuts manager in Settings > Shortcuts.

Don’t know if there is a way to include one for enabling/disabling images. If not, maybe you can try a extension.

          • piero

There is no way to create it. Can you tell me what extension?

          • piero

I found the “Images ON / OFF” extension, but I think it would be much better to configure that option in the keyboard shortcut

  • piero

… and Keyboard shortcut to enable or disable JavaScript and Flash please.

    Hi,

You guys should consider to release the change log before or at least at the same time as the update.
Last changelog is 44.0.2510.849 but Opera released 44.0.2510.857 (PGO)
Please consider this change as it might not be important for many but it is for some.

    Thanks
