Hi,

Right at the start of O40 cycle, we are introducing an upgrade to the synchronization feature. Following the industry standards, we have changed our authorization infrastructure to support OAuth2. As all the changes are in the “under the hood” area, we will be most delighted if you don’t notice them at all 😉 However, if you experience any unexpected behavior, please let us know, we are waiting for your test results.

In this release we are also delivering a couple of VPN fixes. The extension expander button is now visible too.

Also, we have updated the Chromium version to 53.0.2756.0.

We’re keeping pace and along with the synchronization changes, we’re working on:
– improvements in video popout (especially hardware acceleration)
– improvements to personal news (for instance, we are currently working on the RSS reader which was repeatedly requested by many of you)
– further improvement of the battery saving mode
– revitalization of speed dial

You can expect these soon in the developer stream.

Known issues:
– DNA-55414 Unable to select all bookmarks with shortcut (not possible to use Ctrl+A)

  • Congrats on making it to 40

  • redfox

Do you plan to implement the same VPN fixes to O39 Stable too?

    • BK

      Yes 🙂 Tomorrow 😀

      • iYuzver

        Tomorrow comes O39 Stable?

        • Leonardo Gomes

Nope. First Opera 39 beta was just released and also O38 stable is kinda new too.

          • iYuzver

            A week has passed.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Just around 5, 7 more to wait. -)

  • Ralf Brinkmann

    Hi Błażej!
Hmmmmm… keyboard shortcut in the download page… and for switching vpn on and off…?

    • Aneta Reluga

Thanks Ralf. Persistency is the key to success. Usually it is, that is. 🙂
(Gathering the ideas at the moment.)

      • ratamies

Also “Clone tab” needs it’s own mouse gesture (“down”-“up” for example). Still miss it from Opera 12. All other common gestures for manipulating tabs are present, but this one is missing for some reason 🙁

      • BK

Gathering Ideas? Just find the bug and check how is Krebs team doing.. 🙂

    • Tommy Wille

I love your determination, Ralf. 😉

    • BK

You are trying to make me embarrassed with this download thingy 😀

  • Dark Magician

OAuth 2.0 has had numerous security flaws exposed in implementations. The protocol itself has been described as inherently insecure by security experts and a primary contributor to the specification stated that implementation mistakes are almost inevitable.

    Sounds great.

    • https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6749 defines framework so many details are left undefined but it doesn’t mean that each implementation is insecure.

    • hari.g

Like any protocol, OAuth2 also needs to be implemented with security in mind. Yes, in the case of OAuth2, the flaws and other concerns were widely discussed. As this can be done securely, the protocol is used by major players in the software business. If the implementation is bad, a protocol itself can’t save the situation.

  • helsten2

    Thank you for the update.
Additional VPN virtual locations coming soon?

    • Aneta Reluga

This is still being worked on, but I cannot provide any ETA…

  • redfox

    1) Would it be possible to open links (using middle mouse click) in foreground tabs? Chromium users are complaining about it for a long time, but the engine still opens the links in background tabs.
    2) Thank you for showing the VPN button even on new blank tabs, its good to be assured I am connected through VPN before entering an URL.

    • Ralf Brinkmann
      • redfox

I know, I use it. But it is an extension, which takes additional memory…
A switch (foreground/background) in the Opera settings would be much better.

        • L33t4opera

Hi, I realize, that this is not exactly, what you’re asking for, but you can use Shift+Middle Click, to open a link in a new tab in the foreground.

  • abaddon

I asked before, but will ask again – any chance of adding speed dial to synchronization?

    • Already synchronized. See “Other Speed Dials” in opera://bookmarks.

      • abaddon

But what if I don’t want multiple speed dials but only one?

        • Not possible, sorry.

          • ratamies

Then how it works for me? I have two Opera instances (at work and at home) and they synchronize the same speed dial. I removed all “Other Speed Dials” and have bookmarks in “Speed Dial” that are common for all Opera instances. These speed dial tiles are synchronized like a charm. 🙂

        • Beats me. I now have four separate speed dials and it sucks… also most of the times I want to change something, like changing the icon to a screenshot, I end up changing some other speed dial or removing it from my current one…

        • Peter Rüthemann

Just save your Opera profile (C:UsersxxxxAppDataRoamingOpera SoftwareOpera Stable) in a shared folder like dropbox and ignore syncing of Opera itself.
Bothers me also a lot. It’s not synced if several opera installations are not identical.

          • It won’t work with mobile clients and not sure how conflicts will be resolved when two browsers will modify the same file at about the same.

        • Bit annoying, this one. I have got around it by having a few key speed dial sites on each machine but adding bookmarks that I want to sync across all devices to the ‘unsorted bookmarks’ and ‘my folders’ folder which is the same everywhere. It’s also the folder you get taken to if you choose bookmarks from the menu. But yes I’d much prefer speed dial sync.

        • Leonardo Gomes

Copy only that one from Other Speed Dials to Speed Dial.

I don’t think they will implement individual Speed Dial sync as well as individual bookmark sync. At least not in a near future.

  • qwerzaq

Opera AdBlock lacks only option to block an advertising element on the page example:
    http://jpegshare.net/d1/85/d185fe29805f647d3929e7a316e5838c.png.html
Thank you for your hard work

  • Matheus Bombonato

Any chance to have sync of search engines? I have several custom searchs and I have to reconfigure them in every machine I have 🙁

    • Leonardo Gomes

That one would be very nice to have.

      • Wando Schneider

        Along with the extensions 😀

        • Leonardo Gomes

          For sure.

      • Aneta Reluga

No idea about chances, but still, I reported it as a suggestion. 🙂

        • Matheus Bombonato

Thanks Aneta. The old Opera used to have this feature and lost after the Sync revamp. It was VERY useful.

  • Mat M

What is the setting of opera://flags/#enable-ppapi-win32k-lockdown which may allow me to use the VLC NPAPI plugin ? I was not able to make it work.
    Thanks

    • Leonardo Gomes

      I guess it’s a Chromium thing.

      • Mat M

I know; it is coming from the npapi deprecation, I think. But I can’t manage to find my way between the choices.
Hoped for help from Opera guys.
        Seems I have no luck…

        • Leonardo Gomes

          It probably doesn’t even work.

          • Mat M

It worked with next update. I did not know why.

  • Marko Koivuniemi

Is it me or is this new version much snappier than previous beta-version. Good work!

  • Kirby green

yay! I’m so excited to RSS!

    • jho

is the “Smart RSS” not an option for you? I am using it and for me it is enough. But a built-in version is not bad either.

      • tr3w

For me it’s OK, but I would like to synchronize my RSS between my computers (not just the feeds but also whether I read them or not).
It would be also nice to see them from my phone…
(I know I should use feedly or something…)

        • jho

maybe it is really better to use independent solution. because if you want to have everything all in one, you are getting mad over future changes.

      • Kirby green

I’m using smartRSS too.but i was thinking it would be wonderful if i can check at the personalized news.

  • motya

And VPN still doesn’t work D: Just endless “Connecting” and that’s all. Win.10 x64, but on my laptop (win 10 too) VPN works.

  • xirit64

Congrats for O40. Are we going to see passwords being synced between PC and Opera Android as well in the near future?

  • redfox

Does the sync work between O 40 and the old O 12.18 ?

    • Nope.

    • Leonardo Gomes

Opera 12 and older don’t sync anymore since Link had been closed.

  • Nekomajin43

    RSS, finally. 🙂

Any hints about the speed dial thingie? Is it a major stuff, or just some adjustments?

  • Marc

Don’t know if it’s a bug or even a known bug but you can’t go back a page using the backspace key anymore (happened in O39 too).

    • Nekomajin43

It’s a Chromium thing. You can set it back in the Settings, under shortcuts.

      • Marc

        Ah I see, thanks!

  • oic

    – how do I view all the themes I download nowadays?

    • Leonardo Gomes

      Type opera://themes on address bar.

      • oic

why is it hidden? And could you include pages on the theme pages, so that those who download hundreds of themes could flip thru them

        • Leonardo Gomes

There used to be a theme entry on menu, don’t know why they removed it.

    • RafaellaG

You can also open OMenu – settings – basic (should start in basic per default) and under Themes select (scroll to) the one you want to display.

Or open Customize start page on the start page and select (scroll to) the one you want to display.

Both is a bit exhausting when many themes were downloaded.

And with this choices you not only get your own downloaded themes but other from opera’s theme page as well. And the automatic sorting order (which you can’t change) and choosing is a pain in the a.. – because of the very tiny preview pictures and the “extra” themes) .

The only way with a clear big display with only your own themes is the opera://themes on address bar – as Leonardo Gomes already said.

Don’t know why Opera is not using this page any more in the menu, because they should, imho.

  • Matheus Bitencourt

    Bring tabs stacking feature back!!!!
This feature is toooo useful when you have a lot of tabs opened

  • Cobalt
  • Pavel Aleksandrov

Do you think in the foreseeable future you will introduce tab stacking like in the old Opera, or in Vivaldi?

  • Nico

Please let us edit the default search engines.

    • Cobalt

Yeah, it would be great! Like in Chrome ,-)

  • Alex Wazovskiy

Glad to hear that you will do the RSS Reader. I’m waiting for it.

    But there are 2 questions:
    1. Why when I’m clicking the new tab icon, an URL http://www.yandex.ua/?win=119&clid=1936586 loads in new tab instead of speeddial? This began many versions ago and happens only with developer edition. I’m sure this is not malware/virus.
    2. When the site in pinned tab changes it’s own title, in Chrome and chromium-based browsers, tab starts glowing. Why Opera doesn’t have this feature?

    • RafaellaG

      2. This is easy to answer. Opera isn’t like other browsers, even if it’s also chromium-based 😉

But seriously, if Opera does everything like the other browsers, why do we need Opera anymore?

But if it is a useful option and enough user complain, and Opera can be persuaded, then maybe we will get this feature or something similar too.

      • Alex Wazovskiy

I think, all chromium-based browsers should do the same things that Chromium does, and developers of these browsers can modify these features or add a new ones. I cannot see any sense in cutting off default features. I hope this feature will be soon in Opera, I need this one 🙂

        • Wando Schneider

They didn’t cut off this feature. Opera is based in chrome, but all the chrome (the top UI of a browser) was built by Opera.

          • Alex Wazovskiy

So, this feature hided inside browser?

          • Wando Schneider

Most probably it doesn’t exist in Opera, since the feature probably is built in the Top UI that Google developed for Google Chrome.

          • Alex Wazovskiy

Now I can see it all. Thanks for explain 🙂

    • BK

Hi Alex. For 1 – do you have some extensions installed?

      • Alex Wazovskiy

Yes, but when I disabled all of it, nothing changed.

        • BK

and the same happens in private window?

Any chance you can temporary move the profile folder, restart the browser and check if that fixes the dev stream issue?

          • Alex Wazovskiy

Yes, I recenly tried moving profile folder. In clean profile, no issue. Issue starts after logging in to synchronisation.

          • BK

woho.. OK, thanks a lot. We will try do dig this further based on this input 🙂

          • Could you send me (mlowicki at opera.com) your sync / auth login? If this is ok we’ll analyze your account for any anomalies?

Is value of “clid” fixed or it changes over time?

          • Alex Wazovskiy

Sorry, I couldn’t. I’ll trust only to moderator accounts, like Błażej’s.

          • What about 3rd question then..?

          • Alex Wazovskiy

            3rd question?

          • To even start debugging your issue I need concrete answer.

          • Alex Wazovskiy

            OK. I’ll try to answer.

          • BK

No worries, he’s from Opera 🙂

          • Will you pass your login then as Błażej confirmed I’m from Opera? 😉

          • Alex Wazovskiy

            Yes, Now I can)
            Sended.

  • tarkus

It seems that mouse gestures are at the bottom of your priorities and it’s a shame! I cannot change tabs or reload all tabs at once or open a new background tab (to name a few absolutely basic omissions) with the mouse! Not to mention the ingenious forward (next page) & backward (previous page) gestures of Opera 12 – I could go to the next page in Google without pressing next, by only moving the mouse forward! Those were the days for ‘mouse lovers’!

  • Herr Pietrus

    re… of speed dial…
    again?!
    no, please…

    • Kornelia

Have a little faith in us 😉

      • Kamen Minkov

While you’re at it, can you pass some suggestions to the devs? I’d very much like to see the ability to leave empty spots on the speed dial (e.g. to be able to move a site to the bottom right without necessarily having filled in everything before it); I’d also like to have the option for fixed number of columns when resizing the window – so if I have 7 columns in a maximized window, I’d like them to stay 7 when I shrink the window and just scale down (instead of shifting rows and columns).

  • Marko Koivuniemi

Good to know that life begins at 40. I’m also not so stable 39 and developer version of 40. Final version of version 40 will be released in august. 🙂

  • C:WindowsTempopera autoupdateCProgram Files (x86)Opera developer8144_21883ClearKeyCdm_platform_specificwin_x86clearkeycdm.dll Gen:Trojan.Heur.UT.wL4@b4kXMHni Deleted

BitDefender thinks you guys have a virus.

    • BK

      hmm.. ok, we will verify.

    • Kamen Minkov

      Came here to say that.

    • BK

Thanks for the info, reported as DNA-55449

      • redfox

So, was it a false positive, or really a virus?

        • BK

false positive. It’s just non signed file on our end, mistake introduced with recent change in the packaging system. File has been verified virus free.

          • ouzowtf

Any approximate time frame when this will be fixed?
Is there a new Opera build required or “just” a Bitdefender update?

    • BK

      Bit defender is wrong 🙂

    • ouzowtf

Now it works for me and Bitdefender does not block the file anymore 🙂

  • Druszlak

    “revitalization of speed dial”

    It’s good already. I’m little nervous… ;> Please don’t overthink SD.

  • Denyer

How’s about those side tabs then?

    • Kamen Minkov

      Maybe after another 10 versions…

      • Denyer

One can only hope. I’m on Vivaldi until then.

        • Kamen Minkov

Vivaldi has some catching up to do – e.g. syncing, search engines with POST and some other things.

          • Denyer

I’ll put basic day to day functionality above what are to my use case “nice to haves” any day of the week – I was sat on O12 until Viv came along, hoping that Chropera would sort its UI/UX out 🙁

          • bwat47

I consider syncing basic day to day functionality

  • Cobalt

    Screenshot please!

  • Jose Diaz

    Life begins at 12.18

    • Kamen Minkov

Sadly, despite all the features it has over the current version, it’s pretty much unusable with many sites.

      • redfox

Due to malformed JS of these sites..

        • Nekomajin43

          Malformed?

          • redfox

            Bad written 😉

          • Nekomajin43

            For example?

    • jho

But life in 12.18 was getting worse and worse. A lot of webpages were slow. using old Opera without a script blocker was not possible. And if I load old Opera from time to time I have to say: “It was a good time, but it is over. Lets move on”. With the introduction of the side bar I could change it almost back to what I was used in Opera.

Of course the ultra customization via ini files is not possible. But there is is? Even Vivaldi can use only water because they are also chromium. But for me it is not a problem.

  • João Gonçalves

I still get the orange badge in VPN, so I can’t turn on VPN.
It’s a fresh installed Opera. The VPN list is empty. How can I add VPN servers?

    • motya

      same problem here

    • Leonardo Gomes

      You can’t.

      • João Gonçalves

So I’ll ask if someone from the support team can explain how in a freshly installed Opera, I have an empty VPN list.

        • Leonardo Gomes

Opera gets the list from a server AFAIK. Your Opera most probably is not being able to connect to the server and get the list.

  • red5goahead

The problem the plug-in section loose its value it’s stil there on 40

I choose the second option (the recommended one) but sometimes return back to third option

    http://i.imgur.com/hWAdrHU.png

and most video doesn’t work anymore

    • Leonardo Gomes

      Are Turbo or VPN enabled?

      • red5goahead

        vpn yes, turbo not.

        • Leonardo Gomes

So that’s it. VPN enables ‘click to play’ for plug-ins.

          • red5goahead

ok . I tried to and you’ve right.

So now the question is : WHY! 🙂

          • Leonardo Gomes

I guess it’s because plugin traffic doesn’t go through VPN.

          • red5goahead

I don’t think so, because I tried to stream from Cbs live (U.S.) and without vpn Cbs flash player did not allow me to access there. With vpn (us server) I’d no block.

          • Leonardo Gomes

I mean that plug-in traffic most probably isn’t ‘masked’ by VPN and can reveal the user real location and IP address.

  • Nachiketa Ramesh

    RSS FEED YESS!!!

BTW what do you mean by speed dial revitalization?

    • Pavel Aleksandrov

Probably just changing the way it looks again for not good reason…

  • ga_pechorin

it happen again: my opera button is always red, with the red flag to look for new updates 🙁
some file must have been corrupted, is there any chance to know which one? another consequence of that is that the autocomplete doesn’t distinguish among history and bookmarked links, it shows everything with the history icon.

last time i solved everything with a clean installation, but i wont do it because of the search engines and extensions.

please, give us information about where the search engines and extensions info is stored to be able to backup them, is that some kind of secret we shoudnt know?

pd. opera needs more icons in the contextual menus (like trash) and more options, like “go to website in background” in the plain text context menu. i would added by myself, but you remove the option after opera 12…

    • Kamen Minkov

If you’re on Windows, the autoupdate package may be detected as malware – for example Bitdefender does that for some reason. This seems like a false positive. You can manually download and install this version; you may need to disable your AV for the time of the update.

      • ga_pechorin

i already have the latest version of opera and the “about opera” says opera is up to date, but the button is still red and the option of getting the latest version apperas in the menu, it already happens to me once, it is inconvenient but not worrying. btw, i use windows 7 64

      • juhurus

manual update is also not working, BitDefender is still complaining and deleting the file. I’m just not keen on disabling the AV during the installation just in case the update file is infected.

  • firuz_u7

thanks but still would be desirable please do this function to be opened in a new tab or in a new tab in the background

Opera dev people, still getting asked to allow update EVERY time I open Opera.

  • Юлия

The installer now says Installing for current user ()… while I did a portable installation o.O https://i.imgur.com/qpdv5cR.png
But based on some older screenshot of mine (gif, actually) it didn’t say that: https://i.imgur.com/WFSJLfY.gif

I can’t find it on Programs and Features > Uninstall or change a program, so it worked as expected and did a portable install. Just that the message is buggy.

  • Ralf Brinkmann

I found two remaining problems (from older versions):

    1) Opera still wants to be the standard program / standard app for all my local PDF files on my hard discs after setting Opera as standard browser in the Windows System Settings. That’s not the task or job of a browser!

    2) There are still problems sometimes with shared or embedded videos in Facebook. Either the videos start playing and stop abrupt before they reach the end or only the video part is crumpled on the screen while the audio part is going on. After a few seconds the video part also goes on, but now sound and video are not synchronous anymore. uBlock origin is switched on as Adblocker. I did not test it with the built in adblocker.

    W10x64
    Opera x64 (standalone installation)
    HWA switched on
    uBlock origin switched on

    • Leonardo Gomes

Issue number 2 have been happening here too.

    • RafaellaG

      1) Then use ‘Select Default apps by file type’ / “Standard-Apps nach Dateityp auswählen” in Windows System Settings and there select an other program for that type.

Maybe at one time you choose Opera for that file type and Windows remembered /saved that choice.

      • Ralf Brinkmann

Yes, I can do that and actually this is the setting, but next time Opera overwrites it. I have NEVER chosen Opera for that file type.

  • inDigazzZ

Oh, i see icons in ‘Search with’.
    Finally! Many, many, many thanks…

  • In comparison with 39 version, 40 seems not to block any AD pop-up windows at all. I mean, when I visit the same sites where pop-up window with AD link appears in 40 version when it didn’t in 39 version.
    Please, check this …

Can you give an example of a site where this happens?

      • Well, I can’t replicate it not happening in latest 39 version, so I might be wrong about bringing it in 40 version, but nevertheless, Opera ad-blocking feature is pretty useless without even blocking “windows.open(…)” JS commands. I mean, the “block popup windows” is also turned on as well as Ad-blocking, why it still allows for them to be opened?
        Best example: http://xrutor.org .
After first load clicking anywhere on a page leads you to new tab opening with AD link.
After that, cookie is stored which prevents that from happening. So you should probably try this in incognito mode.

        • RafaellaG

Even a right-click anywhere on the page opens another tab with new (ad) page.
(Win10 x64, Opera x64, ad block enabled, cookies disabled)

  • Kai Ockendorf

What does “revitalization of speed dial” means exactly?

  • TheRavenno

Olá, estou gostando muito da atualização pois não está travando quando se tem mais abas abertas.

  • tarkus

How can I disable the notification (which waits for an answer) about opening more than 10 tabs at the same time?

    • Leonardo Gomes

      You can’t.

    • led9ru

      I opened 15 tabs = no notification.
check in options “Do not allow sites to show system notifications”

  • modemjunkie

Anyone else having issues with recent builds of Stable and Developer and attempts to play YouTubes full screen. I get alerts saying full screen not available. Also the toolbar at the bottom of the video with time elapsed etc. does not disappear when I move the cursor.

    • Leonardo Gomes

Yep, the ‘fullscreen not available’ issue is known. Set DPI to 100% or start Opera with –alt-high-dpi-setting=96 as a workaround if you want to get rid of it.

The tool-bar will go away after a while.

  • modemjunkie

Follow-up. The odd thing is that the YouTubes do display full screen but have the alert in the lower right corner.

  • modemjunkie

Leonardo, you are everywhere. 🙂 Thanks for your help.

  • Eric

Just wondering, is anybody else able to select multiple tabs with CTRL+click and drag them around, or is that feature missing?

    • Leonardo Gomes

      Second option AFAIK.

  • Tratsing

I use Opera Developer 40.0.2267.0. When opening .pdf files online (for example http://support.nuance.com/pdfreader/PDF%20Reader%20Guide%20Eng.pdf) with Opera built-in PDF plugin, then this occurs: https://www.upload.ee/image/5910429/5.jpg
Also, I have option ,,Click to play” enabled and when I try to activate Flash Player plugin in order to view Flash video online (for example http://www.notredame.org/student_work/Maynoldi.swf), then nothing happens. Only sandclass appears for a second next to the mouse icon. This what happens after clicking ,,Click to run Adobe Flash Player”: https://www.upload.ee/image/5910439/6.jpg
I’m wondered if and when ,,Estonia” will be added to ,,News” -> ,,Settings” -> ,,Country & Language”?

automatic update fails since v40 as my BitDefender virus scanner sees it as a threat. Also tried to download and update manually but BitDefender still does not like it. Does anyone else has the same problem or is BitDefender giving me a false alarm?

    • juhurus

ahh I see that has already been reported further down and bug report filed.

      • Paranam Kid

I had the same problem. Deactivated Bitdefender & Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit, and it installed v40, but only after a couple more failures.

  • zakius

    so, you don’t keep this

    creepy statements, fortunately
in this case, can we expect configurable gestures in predictable future?
pretty please, I don’t want to wait for vivaldi…

  • Balint

I was using Opera Developer without problem for a month. Then appeared the autoupdate which is detected by my antimalware, Emsisoft as a trojan, It is on the Quarantine list. It is called: Gen:Trojan.Heur.UT.wL4@b4kXMHni (B)
Is there a solution for this, please.

    • Leonardo Gomes

Take a look at the comments in this and other recent posts. You will see that it’s a false positive.

      • Balint

        Thanks.

  • led9ru

I have changed the flags and now I can not see history. blank Start page opens instead.(in previos Opera same, I rarely watch history) Which flags are responsible for showing the history?

    • L33t4opera

Hi Led9ru, try to enable opera:flags#start-page-web-ui-components, and see if this helps.

      • led9ru

        Yes, helps, thank!

  • Paranam Kid

Thanks for the VPN fix, you obviously listened to your users. Much obliged !
And VPN seems to be faster.

  • siamak

    Hi
Any plan to add Nickname for Bookmarks?

  • Cryio

Question: Using Opera v38 right now. And the repainting issue when snapping a new window is still here. It’s been there since Windows 10 launched. Will it be fixed in version 40?

What I am talking about: Make a new opera window. Snapping to half the screen on Windows 10. The window won’t refresh it’s content unless you manually adjust the window size. Only then will the window repaint properly.

  • xploratorul

Using Opera Dev x64. It works flawlessly, hoping to see x64 builds in the Beta channel too.

  • L33t4opera

    New build – Opera developer 40.0.2273.0 😉
There's no 64-bit build for Windows - at least for the time being.

    • Ralf Brinkmann

This on a monday? Must be a fast security update.

      • L33t4opera

Hi Ralf, it includes the fix for “DNA-55464 YouTube shows ‘fullscreen unavailable’ message if DPI is > 100%”, and other fixes 😉

        • Ralf Brinkmann

Yes, I saw it, but maybe you can find the new gimmick.

          • L33t4opera

It seems to be this one opera:flags#rss-in-personal-news ;-)

          • Ralf Brinkmann

            Aaaaahhh. Fox!

  • Paranam Kid

Update: below (5 days ago) I commented that the VPN now seems to be faster than before. Well, since yesterday it does not work anymore at all: I can’t connect to any webpages.

I don’t understand what is going on, but meanwhile I have disabled it & have gone back to using a very good VPN extension I found during the version 39 period.

  • MarkG54321

Keyboard often stops working in page content (works in address bar). Windows x64 build. Known issue?

    • Leonardo Gomes

I’ve been seeing comments about this since a while but it never happened here.
Well, in fact it did happen but it wasn’t Opera’s fault.

  • Unknown Person

(Windows 10) Trying to open a new instance of Opera (by right clicking on taskbar icon and selecting ‘New Window’) on a different virtual desktop does nothing if there is another Opera window on a different desktop. But if you click the right click and select Opera, a new window opens (like how most other programs work) Could the ‘New Window’ option be adjusted to have the same functionality? I always click the ‘New Window’ by mistake. Thanks (reposted from previous announcement)

  • Sometimes Opera freezes and words that i wrote loads later. Is it because Opera or my computer? If it is because of Opera, can you fix it too? Thanks a lot.

  • derrickmg

It would be nice if we could also synchronise our extensions between browsers on different computers.
I know chrome has this so it seems odd that opera is dumbed down in this respect.
At the moment opening a different opera browser feels like a different browser altogether without my custom set of extensions for web development.

  • Eric

opera wont even open anymore after the version 40 update.

  • Auth User

agreed with bug about backspace button

  • foofootos

…. why did you drop the –alt-high-dpi-setting=96 command line switch AGAIN???? this happens every few updates. I mean jesus. Everything is huge right now, I’ll have to switch browsers again…

    • foofootos

Aaaaand with some further tinkering, for anyone that has this problem do the following:

      1) leave –alt-high-dpi-setting=96 AS IS, but….
      2) UNcheck “Disable display scaling on high DPI settings” in the .exe, or shortcut, compatibility tab which you get when you right click, properties, on the .exe or opera shortcut (you had this enabled before, for the command line switch to work correctly)

      now everything works as before
