Hi,

today we’ve got some update on the developer stream for you. It contains a lot of fixes on features we’ve recently implemented and still developing. Please see the following highlights:

Video pop out updates

  1. The detach button is now available even when video is covered by an overlay content. This means you can detach videos embedded on the site (DNA-52223) and within, for example, the iframe tag.
  2. On sites other than Youtube, there should be a sliding toolbar visible asking if you really want to detach the video window.

VPN updates

  1. A nasty crash on startup when VPN is enabled is now fixed.
  2. A lot of US fixes, such as: moving exposed IP number to the right (OS X), showing IP address in popup (OS X), Address bar not malformed, when enabling VPN for first time (OS X)

Other updates

  1. Windows x64 users – we have an Opera 64-bit build for you this time!
  2. A number of Personal News fixes and improvements, for example tiles visibility and arrangement has been improved.
  3. Also, several fixes for the adblocking feature, such as:
    • The issue where some pages were unusable after turning adblocking on, is now gone.
    • Now, all added custom files are visible after restart – DNA-52878 fix
    • Watched videos are not prevented from being marked as such.
  4. H264 videos are now working on Linux again.

For the full list of changes, as usual, please see the changelog.

Hi Kornelia, thanks for the update and fixes ๐Ÿ˜‰

    New flags:
    – opera:flags#sync-oauth2
    Enables OAuth2 for synchronization engine.

    – opera:flags#enable-top-document-isolation

    – opera:flags#experimental-keyboard-lock-ui
An experimental full screen with keyboard lock mode requiring users to hold Esc to exit.

    – opera:flags#enable-webusb Enable WebUSB support.

The #enable-audio-support-for-desktop-share flag has been renamed to #disable-audio-support-for-desktop-share.

  • RafaellaG

Thanks for the Opera 64-bit build ๐Ÿ™‚

…and also thanks for fixing DNA-52811.

    • iPristy

No more pet bugs from me, i’m all out.

  • Ralf Brinkmann

    Two.

  • iYuzver

    I want the stable 37th version. ๐Ÿ™

    • RafaellaG

      maybe next week (@Aneta:?)

      • iYuzver

        Very long, very long. ๐Ÿ™

      • Aneta Reluga

        ๐Ÿ™‚ telepaths around me.

    • xirit64

Why don’t you use the beta one as default, you will not notice any difference in quality, that good it is ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Jurek

Can’t get the VPN to work on this latest release…

    http://imgur.com/qzZN9tT

    • Aneta Reluga

Can you please provide more details? Did it work for you in the previous release and stopped working in this one? On which pages, and what is your OS? Thanks.

      • Jurek

win10, 64 bit. using a portable installation, vpn working flawless on previous version, autoupdated to 38.0.2213.0 and it’s just stuck on ‘connecting…’ I chose different vpn locations, but that doesn’t help. this is happening on all webpages. thx

        • Jurek

FYI, just did a clean install of the full version on my machine and it won’t connect to the vpn either…. ;/

          • Aneta Reluga

            Ok, thanks, we’ll check this.

  • SQL

Still need element (custom elements also) blocking support in the Adblocker before i can switch from uBlock Origin ๐Ÿ™
There are many sites i use daily with built-in ads that don’t get distributed via an ad network / whatever, they just embed the annoying ads directly to the site itself. The only way to block them is by blocking the elements themselves.

But otherwise things are looking really cool, thanks for the new build!

    • Jurek

Would love to see that added as well.

Something else I’d really like would be a UK vpn address, I’m in Europe and using American or Canadian VPN is a lot slower compared to the German one, but when using German some websites come up in German ;/ It’s a bit frustrating at times, so a nice UK address would make a lot of European users happy, I reckon!

  • Vux777

there’s also new VPN server … Netherlands…but that was available before this update… Opera add it silently yesterday

    • helsten2

Yepp. And the WebRTC issue seems to be solved … ๐Ÿ™‚

      • mikemanger

WebRTC still seems to leak the IP https://ipleak.net/

        • Cyrris

I tried this a few times.

Opera, no VPN, no extensions: Leaks IP
Opera, with VPN, no extensions: Does not leak IP
Opera, with VPN, with “WebRTC Leak Prevent” extension configured wrong: Leaks IP
Opera, with VPN, with “WebRTC Leak Prevent” extension configured right: Does not leak IP

          • helsten2

Looks fine here – even without a “WebRTC Leak Prevent” extension

        • Vux777

          I don’t see it
          http://prntscr.com/axwjz3

          • mikemanger

Strange, it is showing my IP. ๐Ÿ™

            http://i.imgur.com/CZqpHSG.png

Installing ‘WebRTC Network Limiter” fixes it for me though.

          • Vux777

make sure you have latest developer version 38.0.2213.0
and try without any!! extensions enabled, especially webRTC extensions or uBlock
            I’m using vpn+opera adblock+ghostery
            and it works fine

          • mikemanger

Just checked and all up-to-date with no extensions installed. I wonder if it is todo with me being on my work network with a static IP.

    • Kornelia

That list will be changing dynamically, so no mystery here.

  • Nekomajin43

    What does this #context-menu-button do?

    • Kornelia

It allows you to edit/remove speed dial entries (three little dots on SD tiles)

      • Nekomajin43

        I LOVE it!

        • Aneta Reluga

Apparently most people do. No more accidental removing of SD tiles, particularly when manipulating with touch. Thanks. ๐Ÿ™‚

          • Nekomajin43

The next step should be confirm dialog on program exit.

  • Nick Monte

Status bar that was missing from the earlier version is back again, thanks!

  • ga_pechorin

please, add this proxy issue to the bug list:
when you open opera with some tab opened, the proxy dialog pops up to ask for the user/password and it closes immediately. you have to reload any tab to enter the credentials and then reload every tab. i think the window should stay and maybe then, reload every page
    thank you!

  • Bruno
  • redfox

If often crashes on exit, with the close/debug Windows dialog popup..
Windows 7 32bit, VPN on, ad blocker on.
    Event log error:
    Faulting module name: opera.dll
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x02ddf2c7
    (still the same)

  • redfox

The VPN icon is active (blue), even if the VPN server is still in “connecting” state. Should be red, or another color (yellow or blinking for example).

    • redfox

P.S. Would it be possible to add a mouse gesture or keyboard shortcut for moving to the top and bottom of the web page? Thanks.

      • Leonardo Gomes

Doesn’t Home and End do that?

        • x a

I miss the self-configured gestures I had in Opera 12 for that, too: URU/DRD

        • redfox

With a mouse gesture is it much quicker.

  • redfox

Adobe Flash Player plugin (v18.0.0.343) not detected at all.

    • redfox

Hmm taking back.. it seems that the said ESR version in not available for download as PPAPI, which is required for Chromium browsers… Adobe’s fault,

  • Rafael

When I will can get the final stable version 37 the Opera browser? I’m still waiting for this.

    ———- Bug Report ———-

majority of the GIFs in FB, show a white screen when pressed to play. this problems was also present before the update. I’m using windows 7 64bit with few flags turned on.

    ———- Feature Request ———-

    1. the ability to delete one particular sites entire history
    2. recently closed / opened tab menu, should also have an last session’s visited site list included separated or within the recently
    3. new mouse gesture for most recently closed tab, move to the right/left tab and opening history

    • Vux777

      about bug report:
did you maybe disabled HWA? or any of the flags that involves gpu rasterization
      ——————————
      1) when you delete URL from History, all visits for that URL are deleted.
… or did you meant something else?… like delete all sites from the same domain?

      • RafaellaG

He wants to only delete all history entries for a specific site/page, not all sites/pages together.

        • Vux777

uhhmm, he wrote question in a weird way…
and you not helping either ใƒ„
what is all history entries for specific page? (plural!!)

if he ask for deleting single URL from history … that’s super easy, click on the X and that url is gone (all visits for that URL)… I doubt that he missed this simple option
          http://prnt.sc/ay1lsl

          • RafaellaG

What I mean is all items from “Clear browsing data…” for tha specific site/page.
If he only wants to clear the browsing data… I don’t know.
But I think he means all items^^

        • Renz1er

I did not touch any rasterization based flag. The problem maybe due to some other flags, which I turned.

Lets say I have around 100+ entries for a particular domain, its will be a rather time consuming process to click X for each of he entries. Again, I don’t wanna lose other history for that particular time period as well.

“http://prnt.sc/ay7yu0” more like an check all boxes feature.

          • Vux777

I have some experience with History API
Your request seems easy, but… devil is in the details

            – if user wants to delete group of pages (grouped by domain), group will contain pages from that domain/origin only for requested time frame… eg. today, yesterday, etc… so there is a chance that user previously visited some page from that domain, and that they didn’t “make it” into that group, and he/she needs to delete group for every (possible) day

            – if user search for that domain (to delete all search results), search API returns many other results that match that words and disregards some common stuff (.com)
eg: If you search for all pages from Opera.com, you will fetch them all, but you will also get all the articles from other portals/sites that have mentioned Opera in title/url.

I’m actually currently working on upgrade in quick search results for domains (in my extension), so that user can filter only specific domain among those results

          • Renz1er

There is already an extension called “History Eraser”, which can perform this task, but would really appreciate if opera integrates these features into the browser.

About the requested time frame option, i recall there being a option in history “the beginning of time”. Something similar, will allow the user to delete the entire entires for that domain; along with the delete only selected groups entries option.

          • RafaellaG

What if you try to reset ALL flags to standard and try FB again. Is the problem then still there?

If yes: I don’t know what to do (maybe the Opera team can help)

If no: try to change your flags separately until the problem comes again and then avoid that last changed flag.

It may be a bit cumbersome, but might work.

          • Renz1er

reseted the flags, the problem is still there. maybe its PC related ?

  • Nerdebeu

With the x64 version, is it the same profile than the 32-bits version?

    • Dmitry Kirin

      Yes.

      • Nerdebeu

        Thanks.

And both versions can coexist ?

        • Dmitry Kirin

It seems they can. At least, I haven’t had any issue so far. Haven’t used x32 much after x64 was out, though.

          • Nerdebeu

Thanks again, I will test that.

        • Leonardo Gomes

Yes, i have both installed and there’s no problem so far.

  • yigido

    ATTENTION! SECURITY RISK!
on x64 version, today I got a crash and I sent the report ๐Ÿ˜‰
I saw a strange thing on your page. Please see: https://s32.postimg.org/fgasx9uf9/screenshot.png
This software is discontinued for Windows platform by Apple. The latest version of QuickTime is vulnerable against exploits, please read latest Trend Micro blog posts, you will see. Please remove that string from your pages for Windows users.
    Thanks

  • Dmitry Kirin

    Thanks for the 64bit version!

    Some thoughts about the adblocker:

    1. Custom lists are currently referenced by disk file path. It would be good only if Opera were monitoring those files and re-applying them on change. However, this would prevent Opera from synchronising adblock settings along with user profile, to have a completely identical experience on all synced devices. Even if it’s not your closest intention, just keep it in mind, in order to minimize the amount of features that might require reworking later on.
In the end, I think editable custom filters would be better than file references.

    2. If custom black lists are loaded from files and the files are not monitored, we need a button to re-apply them. Adding a file should apply the filters right away. Restarting the whole browser just to apply the filters looks too much.

    3. I’ve copied the contents of my custom filters from AdBlock into the native one. However, it does not remove the big yellowish promo block between the post and comments on LiveJournal. See for example this page.
The filters are the following, none helps.
    *.livejournal.com##DIV[class="appwidget appwidget-journalpromo"]
    livejournal.com##DIV[class="appwidget appwidget-journalpromo"]
    ##DIV[class="appwidget appwidget-journalpromo"]

    • yigido

I checked the Opera filters, can you please try this?
      .#DIV[class=”appwidget appwidget-journalpromo”]
I thought it will help. Opera filters are different (not same as Easylist)

      • Vux777

        promo still there ๐Ÿ™‚

        • yigido

It should work if Easylist rules are working.
Try this if I remember correct.
          #.DIV[class=”appwidget appwidget-journalpromo”]

Because the generic rules for ### will be ## and ## will be #. icons in Opera filters.

  • pokemiu

    Thanks for the release.
It’s a shame. I want to get rid of ublock origin (which is quite good actually) but your adblocking solution still needs improvements.
Adding custom lists one by one is not as easy as checking boxes with ublock.
And I need to do this each time I want to update them.
Besides, do I need to keep them on my hard drive or once loaded, can I delete the txt files ?
Finally, there’s a bug (or maybe an intended feature) :
It seems I can’t delete all the exceptions in the white list.

    • RafaellaG

Yes Operas adblocking feature still needs a little tweaking.

Same block lists (from https://easylist.adblockplus.org/en/ or https://easylist.github.io/ ) for both following examples.

      With Operas internal adlocking: http://prntscr.com/ay23ps
With Adblock Plus (and internal adblocking): http://prntscr.com/ay249g (works the same as Adblock Plus only)

When both adblockers are enabled, Adblock Plus still blocks approx. 1-4 items more.

But please be reminded that this is still a Developer version.

@Kornelia or Aneta: Could we please get an option to automatically update the blocklists, so we do not have to update them manually?
Preferable working the same as in Adblock Plus (or something like that).

  • David_Gould

The popout video is awesome. Greatly preferred the old frame styling though. From quick testing, it’s working on all FB videos now.

Is it part of Opera’s native HTML player? Any chance you can get it to work for iPlayer? (you’d need a UK IP to access its player).

  • led9ru

Vpn speed increased, almost not noticeable that vpn enabled – wow. ๐Ÿ™‚

Turbo mode 1 = It does not work for any website – even a page is not updated, as if disabled the Internet. This is an obvious mistake, you really fix it, please.

  • catup

    VPN is keeping on connecting…

    • redfox

I had the seme problem, but only just after install.. it seems that the VPN server list has to be downloaded by the autoupdate first, it was empty.

  • Kamen Minkov

Clicking the Opera icon keeps switching to a different virtual desktop if I have an Opera window open there. I liked the previous behaviour that would switch to a window only if it’s on the same desktop (and it would open a new window otherwise).

    Windows 10 Pro x64 (14332)

  • redfox

I have some new feature requests to implement:

autosort all bookmarks by name, including subfolders
mouse gestures for moving to the top and bottom of the window
rocker mouse gestures for switching open tabs
enable middle mouse button gestures (focus url bar)
ability to move the tab bar below bookmarks bar or to the bottom
    password manager like in O12
open links in new active tab (not background)
add context menu option ‘use selected text as URL in new tab’ (not current one)
ability to disable webfonts for certain servers
    author mode like in O12.

  • Ralf Brinkmann

Please give us back the “Downloads” page (CTRL-J) from v.35, that can be used with the keyboard. In the actual versions it is not possible, to delete the list of all downloaded files by keyboard, only by mouse, whatever I try.

And a keyboard shortcut for switching VPN on and off would be nice.

    • Tomasz Prockรณw

@ralfbrinkmann:disqus focusing “Clear downloads” by pressing tab should do the work here, I’ll report task to change that.

Do you have proposition for shortcut to on/off VPN?

      • Ralf Brinkmann

Thank you Tomasz for that. It would really be great, especially on a 4k-monitor.

For the VPN it’s difficult. I was already thinking about that. CTRL-V or CTRL-Shift-V or similar is already in use by many programs. Maybe CTRL-Shift-Alt-V, or somebody of the other users has any idea.

        • nanana1

For VPN keyboard shortcut, keep it simple : ALT-V

          • Ralf Brinkmann

Ah, yes, you are right. I have just checked my hotkey detective and it is not in use and there is no menu in Opera item with ALT-V. So this would be ok.

      • led9ru

VPN – > In drop-down menu, where “Opera Turbo” on/off checked.

This allows you to quickly switch it without downloading settings page.

The solution currently exists, provokes leave vpn permanently switched on – so too lazy to go in deep pages and turn it off.
        many users – more delay

        • Vux777

you don’t need to go to settings page every time
once when enabled (on settings page), you can turn it on/off from address bar badge
only thing that is missing is to show badge on internal and new tab page

  • helsten2

I have noticed that sometimes the pages are displayed without applying the style sheet(s). Happens with any page – at any time (can be minutes or days between each occurrence). If I reload the page, it displays OK. But then the same problem will also happen to all pages which have been loaded in that session – when I reload them. Another reload will fix the problem.
I guess this is a Chromium “thing” since I experience exactly the same problem with Vivaldi.

    • Dmitry Kirin

That’s strange. I’ve seen such only after I deleted cache files f_XXXXX manually. The cache index would then refer to nonexisting items with the exact same effect, stylesheets not applied. I’d recommend deleting the entire cache, including the index and data_X files.
I also have disk cache dir in a nonstandard location (a RAM disk), and when it gets full, older entries are deleted in accordance with some algorithm, without any impact on page rendering.

      • helsten2

You are right. I have tried to deleted the cache files and (as an end user) you get exactly the same experience. I am using a RAM disk too, 16GB. No space problem – I have checked when this problem happens. Normally I use less than 1GB.
And – as I said – it happens to both Opera and Vivaldi. So I guess it is a Chromium bug.

  • Carson Coyote

One thing I’ve noticed since version 38 is that images don’t resample as nicely as they used to. Compared to Opera 36 or 37, resized images show a lot of aliasing.

  • Jason Coplen

Flash is blurry on facebook games. It’s the same flash used in Chrome, Vivaldi, and Yandex. Debian Stretch 64 bit.

  • Ariane Lu

Any Opera team member here? please check this:

Opera my ask password if some website trying connect to local software( local.example-app.com) while VPN is enable.
I think Opera should reject any request to localhost while VPN is enable, or some website will know who i’m i by connect to local client.

I will report this to issue tracker later

    • BK

@tomaszprockw:disqus will look into this ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Ghirahim

Why don’t you always release both, 32 and 64-bit version of Opera? What’s holding you back?

    • Leonardo Gomes

Because the 64 bits version/build is something experimental and there may happen issues while creating those builds.
So they prefer to release only the regular 32 bits version instead of making everyone to wait for the 64 bits one.

  • Alexandr Medvedovskii

No sound (youtube, vk / html5, flash) / opera x64 mint 17.3 mate

  • yigido

Why Opera VPN does not connect the closest location? For example, if I am living in Europa but Opera VPN enables USA proxy. Can you do something about it?
    Thanks

    • redfox

      What country?

    • Ralf Brinkmann

      That’s the trick.

But if you want another one you can select it yourself in the list. Opera will keep your selection in mind for the next time.

  • Ralf Brinkmann

Several times page crashes on maps.google.de.

  • Dmitry Kirin

Thank you so much for having fixed the bug with page saving!

  • tarkus

    A peculiar behavior:
    1. Opera dev is not maximized
    2. I’m trying to increase the on-screen dimensions (horizontally or vertically)
    3. Opera freezes and becomes unresponsive
    4. I minimize and subsequently restore the browser
    5. Everything is going back to normal
    Does it happen to you?

Update: Forget it! I found the problem!

  • tarkus

Do you see the pictures? (I can see them with O stable)
    http://www.cnet.com/products/microsoft-lumia-950/2/
Scroll down, don’t look at the top!

    • Ralf Brinkmann

No I can’t. Not in Opera, not in Google Chrome, not in Firefox and not in Vivaldi.

      • tarkus

Strange! I just have them open in Opera stable (not in O dev)
Try clicking on them once or twice.

        • Ralf Brinkmann

I didn’t try out Opera stable, only dev.

    • RafaellaG

It has (again) something to do with Ghostery enabled (which tracker there I don’t know) – at least for me.
If I “pause blocking” the pictures are shown.

      • Vux777

        …nvm ๐Ÿ™‚

      • tarkus

You are absolutely right! It’s the Tealium tracker blocked by ghostery!
        Thank you and everybody else!
PS I keep Opera stable for testing reasons without ghostery installed, that’s why I had no problems.

        • Ralf Brinkmann

          Not Tealium, it’s Taboola.

          • tarkus

            Tealium AND Taboola!

          • Ralf Brinkmann

No, here I can leave Tealium blocked and it works.

          • tarkus

No reason to insist or continue, but…without Tealium AND Taboola unblocked I cannot see anything from here! Cheers!

          • Vux777

it could be that when one is enabled, it loads more scripts that are not visible at first (cascade loading)… and those extra-loaded are responsible for blocking
I’m not sure which one does it…

    • ะฎะปะธั

Which OS? Works fine with Firefox. With Opera and Chromium I had to refresh the page like 4 or 5 times for all images to show up. Far right is Chromium at first access.

advanced settings logic is kinda weird
you need to scroll down to the bottom to enable it, and then scroll up to see it (newly available items)
    many users overlook that…
…not to mention “Delay loading of background tabs” that is on top of the page

    • Vux777

another thing that depends on advanced setting (on settings page) is customizing new tab page
      http://prnt.sc/azqooi

      • ะฎะปะธั

Imo those settings (both Advanced and UUDDLRLRBA) shold always be visible. They’re not that advanced in the first place and for stuff that might bite there’s always chrome://flags/

        • Vux777

          agree
maybe in the beginning when they were in testing phase, but now… no need to be hidden
and besides, there is Basic page already…

          overall, settings are kinda cluttered
On one single page there are Themes, Adblocker, UI options…. and then doubled on Basic page
maybe Opera needs new Settings layout..little more logical

          • RafaellaG

I agree to the “needs new Settings layout”.
Hopefully the Opera team agrees too.

  • If I were a religious man, I would say you’re doing the Lord’s Work including a VPN capability with your browser. Some people appreciate a company that understands that personal privacy, in this day and age, is a virtue.

Love the proxy alias “browser VPN” – this is a real “killer application” and will, if implemented as well in the final release as it promises in the developer version, really give Opera new momentum. I have to admit, I stopped using opera back then, when the email client was taken out of the bundle and switched to Firefox. But I already haven’t been using anything else but the developer version with this “browser VPN” ever since I downloaded it, Firefox will be removed as soon as a final release of Opera 38 is out.

But two things here: I really need an “all questions answered” FAQ about the privacy of this proxy service, you stated before that you have a “no logging”-policy with this VPN, but you do have a certain hashed ID, that is sent with every request to your proxy servers. Is this solely in order to replace a username/password login and sort of “authorize” every request or is there, after all, some connection between my actual IP (that my ISP has given me) and my online activities, that you could be handed over to authorities (which would be a no-go for dissidents in places with censorship and prosecution of political opposition) or that could get in the wrong hands, if your system is ever hacked etc. (which is probably the bigger worry for users in most countries).

And I would love to see a button to get a new IPv4 IP assigned on demand, I noticed restarting the browser or swรญtching the VPN off and on again doesn’t give me a new VPN IPv4 IP, which is pretty annoying, since privacy is best increased by not having the same IP for long, so one can’t even be tracked by this IP. Real anonymity is not provided by merely having a pseudonym (e. g. surfing with one of your IPs via the proxy), but by not even giving anyone the chance to track me by my pseudonym-IP, by changing this IP changing frequently. Maybe you could also implement an option, that revolves IPv4 IPs after X minutes automatically, in the browser settings. For people like me, who would like to enable such a feature, this would be the “icing on the cake”. ๐Ÿ™‚

I had another page crash (this time on http://www.klack.de) and after reloading with F5 the focus on the page went lost. I had to click into the page before I could go on. I saw this behaviour some more times in this and the last dev.

I’m constantly getting Google Privacy Reminder when using search.
Even if I accept it, and reload that page, popup shows again
either my cookies are corrupted or this affects other users too?

Agreed. We need to know what laws govern VPN data too and ideally the whole thing should be vetted by a group like Privacy International.

In adblocker_settings.js, used by the built-in adblocker in the speedtest view, you have a typo: updateWhitelistedDomains_ seems to be a more appropriate name for a method instead of upateWhitelistedDomains_ [sic!].

Are there any plans to allow us to subscribe to the custom filter lists rather than having to download them locally? Would help a lot with keeping them up to date.

Also love the VPN stuff, had issues with internet radio at work, this works around that ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Martin Holoubek

During last few days I got really used to the video detach function. It would be really great to have this feature within flash videos. Are you planning to add this functionality?

  • RafaellaG

    Bug:
If one chooses a theme from the “customize start page” it disrespects the “Position = center top” and displays it as “center center” directly afterwards when displaying.
Only if you reload the page (sometimes it doesn’t even work then the first time) or open a new tab it is displayed correctly.

If it works the same for other positions I can’t say.

Happens in O38 Developer (x64 build) AND O37 final.
    (Win 10 x64).

“Simplified fullscreen / mouse lock ui” enabled in opera://flags, does not work.

  • tarkus

I have installed both 32 & 64 bit versions of O dev and it seems that they use the same profile without any problem (except for a small one: when setting O dev 64 bit as default, Windows issue a small warning that something went wrong and switch the default to Edge – I believe it’s normal since you switch default from 32 to 64 of a browser identified with the same name as before, but that’s easily correctable later). The thing is: I haven’t experienced any crash or anything unusual to consider O dev 64 bit it as ‘experimental’ and, second, I see no ‘measurable’ difference in performance between the 32 & 64 versions. Performance-wise has anybody seen any actual difference between the two versions?

    Singapore added to VPN list.

WTF, I have now installed Opera-developer 38, but the bookmarks are not working.
The one and only reason I want to run opera is that it has a working bookmarks side bar.
However as opera has not been much developed after 12, no linux version until 35 I think I haven’t been running opera as opera 12 didn’t manage html5.
Now I see that I need an add-on to get the bookmark’s side bar working but it’s not working.
There are plenty of book marks addons and I tested one which was claimed to be close to the features of opera 12, but totally braindead. Works as bad as the bookmarks handlers in firefox, chromium etc. When searching the hierarchy is lost and the I can not sorts for folders.
Is this some kind of sabotage?

Give me the features of opera12 back please!
Why call this “development” when it’s going back.
It seems as I have to write a bookmark handler myself. I hacked dwb (die web browser) earlier, I think I’m going back to that. Tell me when opera is working again, and I can give it a try.

    • Vux777

WTF, I have now installed Opera-developer 38, but the bookmarks are not working. .

      doesn’t work how?
you can’t see any of your bookmarks or…?

      did you import them?
if so, they are in imported folder…
do you expect them to sync from old opera presto “Link” sync..?…they won’t… new Opera have different sync system
      —————
and btw, how would you sort bookmarks on search results?
I mean what’s the point of sorting when you only see some of the bookmarks (search results)…
      or am I missing something…

  • David Bogan

Is there a way to get mouse gestures working?

    • redfox

They work (only basic ones), but can not be modified or added by the user yet. I am still missing the mouse gesture for moving to the top (U) and down (D) of a webpage.
The “D” gesture is hardcoded in Opera to “open new tab” now, which I controlled by the left rocker gesture (left+right click) in old O12.

      • David Bogan

Nope, not working for me on a page they do work on with Opera 12.14 which I just went back to because I realized 38 does not clear my cache on exit and will not use the VPN in private mode so there’s really no point for me.

The old version has many “privacy” options that are now missing. True, you can get many back with addons but it’s still not as private as the old version. EI Cookie handling, Cache clearing, Content Blocking.

        • redfox

It will be implemented lately (I hope). I just use O38 on public wifi, the VPN feature is great. I still have O12 and Firefox for other purposes.

Doesn’t work, all this update did, was give me the option to turn off VPN, which is the whole reason I got the browser in the first place, completely useless now…shame

  • Goran Petkovic

Where is this VPN Version that let me download this Browser ? It was working for some days then suddenly “no connection” anymore.

You guys at Opera really piss me off, your claiming how great your VPN is and then disable the feature free will.

Users cant count on you Opera developers thats not good.

Alot of big Bla bla bla bla VPV VPN and then weeks and more weeks theres still just Bla Bla bla VPN.

    Shame on you !

And shame on you again for not continuing Opera 12.18 !! its the best Browser ever
