Straight to the point: today’s beta update is focused on stability. You won’t notice any revolution here – it’s more like fixing minor nuisances, and all of them internal (even this crash we have fixed here was a rare occurrence in specific usage conditions). Also, Chromium has been updated to 49.0.2623.54.

I’m first, but I’m waiting for a Dev build. :)

    • Aneta Reluga

      Not today. Sorry. :)

      • Vux777

        new branding or…?

        • Aneta Reluga

          (r)evolution…
But seriously, please click and see for yourself. That’s straight in the eye, and no secret :)

          • Vux777

            ahhh I see it now
            it was empty before
            tnx

        • nanana1

wonder why it wasn’t Norway though ?

          • Vux777

I guess they gonna add more localizations to desktop blog
            similar to News

        • BK

          preparation for 1st April 😉

      • Ralf Brinkmann

You should have a serious talk with BK.

        • Leonardo Gomes

BK said that there would be a new version/build today and there is one. :-)

          • RafaellaG

But he said it on the DEVELOPER channel when asking for a new version/build

          • xirit64

you sound like a spoiled child you know? Relax, they are humans, not machines, and plans can always change for any reason that does not concern you, and also, you have no authority either judging them. Or do you think they have any contractual or any other obligation to you and anyone else? We are fans, and we are here for fun, not their bosses or their dictators or their… prosecutors…

          • RafaellaG

I am relaxed and I know that plans could change.

What I wanted to say is that he should respond on such a question on Developer channel only if there is developer build, or at least he should specifically say that it is a beta (/stable) build.

            PS. And I’m not a child – but maybe a little spoiled^^

          • xirit64

I’m with Ralf on this one :), after all it states: “A Opera developer release happens approximately two times per week.” You tell them @ralfbrinkmann! :)

          • Tomasz Procków

We need to update this document, with a more realistic estimations 😉

          • xirit64

            😀
I know that updating those lines can be a real painful task -don’t ever do it- , so I wish you that your upcoming deal turns out great so that you will have more manpower and resources to never have to bother about it again :)

            P.S. I like your beard, it’s totally badass 😀

        • BK

          I hear you :p

      • Amazingeneer

        Maybe later this week? :)

  • http://www.vece.net/ plovec

I appreciate the “no overlay” option in the new speed dial, since I use the gray theme, and it’s better without the overlay.
I noticed that the small Search textbox is missing.

    • RafaellaG

Is there really anyone how prefers the speed dial theme WITH a dark overlay?

      • xirit64

Here you go again :). I will ask this then, is there really anyone who has only one row of speed dials? 😛

        • Leonardo Gomes

          O/ Me.

        • RafaellaG

          1. Does anyone complain before the theme went “dark”? You don’t (saw no corresponding post).^^
          2. I saw at least some users (including me, yes) who complained after introduction of the “no-theme-overlay” flag.

          • xirit64

            1. If you would have been following this blog you should have known that there was a crazy amount of complaints about the overall brightness of the browser ever since that new Speed Dial was in experimental mode.

          • RafaellaG

There were complaints about the new ugly SD, the white and blocky SD, the white bar, the size of the SD, synching SD, hdpi SDs…

Nothing about the brightness. At least not on developer since Opera 30.^^

Anyway it’s not my decision to decide how Opera will look in the future. I can only give my feedback. Like all others do.

    • Herr Pietrus

Yeah, many light themes looks really ugly with that gray overlay. It should be optional (sometimes it helps)

  • Ralf Brinkmann

Still messed download manager page. No keyboard handling possible.

  • RafaellaG

You can’t edit an item in the top line of the SD because the edit lines are outside of view. Here is a picture (https://www.dropbox.com/s/z8x8ukrbx1js0bj/Clipboard01.jpg?dl=0). Only viewable today.

PS. It has already been noted (on an older Developer blog – i think)

    • Aneta Reluga

Wow, that’s weird – looks like it happens so far on Win10 because on my Win7 it looks like this: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13937409/rozne/edit-win7.png (I tried to mimic the same start-page config).
I’ll try to lay my hands on Win10 too – it might be a good catch.

      • Rafał Chłodnicki

I guess it only happens when you have one row of speed dials.

        • RafaellaG

Yes that’s right. Tried it just now. Only if there’s one row (with the “+” in the same row).

        • Leonardo Gomes

Also search bar needs to be disabled.

          • RafaellaG

Yes. The search bar is redundant (at least for me). I use the address bar for my searches.

      • Leonardo Gomes

        It”s dna-48898.

  • BlB

the video on VIBOX7.com is not working. Is that connected with some video coding???

    • Ralf Brinkmann

Which video? I see only a message that I can purchase this domain.

      • BlB

        hello and sorry my mistake..
        The right link is http://vbox7.com/
        My os is Ubuntu 14.04.3/4

Most probably this is from Adobe Flash..???

        • Ralf Brinkmann

If you mean this video in the box with the children, then it plays here. W10x64.

          • BlB

            Ralf …I told you >>> UBUNTU 14.04.3 or 4…

I suppose this is problem with Adobe flash …the same problem is in Slimjet on UBUNTU, however, when I uncheck hardware acceleration with right click on video (and then adobe flash menu), any video starts…

          • Ralf Brinkmann

Yes, of course you told me. And I told you that it works on my system. So maybe this helps the programmers to find the mistake. I don’t know if it is a problem of flash or of the OS, I can only give one more information.

          • BlB

I think that this is somehow connected with opera itself SINCE with chrome/chromium there is no such problem.
As far I remember hardware acceleration creates such issues. BUT I don’t know how to overcome this.

AGAIN for opera devs: UBUNTU 14.04.3 ..or 4.(sorry I manually changed the Linux kernel…)

  • Jan Velecký

Hello, how can I change how old history entries Opera stores?

    • Leonardo Gomes

      What do you mean?

      • Jan Velecký

I can’t search some pages in history, that I visited some time ago (half year for example).

        • Leonardo Gomes

It seems that history only remembers visited pages until a certain time.

          • Vux777

            3 months

        • RafaellaG

If you want to remember a page so long, why don’t you bookmark the page?

Bookmarks are forever – if you don’t delete any^^

  • Darepo

Hi!, Opera is great, but it would be even better with a functionality for opening files without cluttering my downloads folder, like IE does (Saves it to temp folder and then it opens it).

Sorry if this isn’t the place for posting suggestions

    Keep the great job :)

    • Marko Koivuniemi

I think current method is much better. I hate IE way. Of course that could be an option.

      • Herr Pietrus

It would be great if it could be an option for a specific files. For example if I download a PDF sometimes I want to save it, but sometimes I only want to read it. But when I download a zip or exe file it’s obvious that i will need it in the feature

    • http://www.vece.net/ plovec

      like the old Opera (12)

  • ammodytes

In this build Opera is even more unresponsive and laggy on some pages… i dont know what is happening with browser now.. w10 x64

    • ammodytes

gmail, twitter, facebook, and many other less popular sites

    • Leonardo Gomes

There are some known freeze/crashing issues with Win10. They are working on it.

      • Marcin Mitek

We have a fix ready, should be rolling out soon to all streams. We took a safe path when applying it, so it took some time, sorry for that.

  • Druszlak

When hardware acceleration is enabled I got black screen on some pages (like 9gag.com and Facebook).

    Screen:

    Win7 64bit, i5, GF330m

    • proxxy

i have same problem, with HA disabled, no problem.

      • Kai Ockendorf

I have really no clue if I should turn HA on or off :/

  • Vlad
  • http://fbgm.eu/ FB George

Please add an option to open bookmarks from opera://bookmarks in current tab with left click.

    • BK

      or maybe, mouse gesture?

      • Kai Ockendorf

Yeah, please give more love to mouse gestures :)

      • http://fbgm.eu/ FB George

What kind of gesture would that be? Only gestures I use are back and forward.

I would prefer a left click default to open in current tab (on desktop at least) since i can open links in new tab with middle click.

Usually i go to bookmarks page open a few new tabs and last one i want to open in the current one, but as it is now i have to open all in a new one and close the bookmark page.

        • BK

ah, sorry, I misunderstood original request.

    • BK

So RMB on bookmark and then menu item – open in current tab?

      • http://fbgm.eu/ FB George

Don’t think a context menu option would be any better for my case. Though it will be useful for other sites.

Like I said, the way I would want it to behave is left click open in current tab. This might sound/be a selfish request, but i don’t understand why the default is to open in a new tab, when we have middle click for that.

This are just my wishes, not saying this is what most people want/need.

        • BK

Ok, thanks. I will check what was the reasons to design it the way it’s designed now. Seems inconsistent with regular webpages behavior.

          • http://fbgm.eu/ FB George

OK. Thank you for the replies.

          • Herr Pietrus

Inconsistent with regular webpages behaviour? Maybe, but opening a bookmark in the same tab (= closing the manager)is a really sick ide…

            Oh… wait! :)

I don’t use manager very often (I prefer bookmarks menu on the main bar so I use neater bookmarks extension) but sometimes I still do that, especially to open unsorted bookmarks and some other pages that I recognize thanks to the screenshoots – and I don’t understand why these bookmarks are not opened IN THE NEW TAB IN THE BACKGROUND. :)
Currently if I don’t use ctrI while opening the page then I have to close the manager after visiting the bookmark. I’ts really FRUSTRATING so I strongly support FB George’s suggestion!

  • Robert

hang-up are still present, with each update more often hangs while playing video or audio, and some cease to work or hangs.
the problem is bad optimization windows 10

    • BK

Hi Robert, we have nasty bug on win 10, fixed internally now, should be released to beta and final stream as soon we verify it’s working good.

      • Kai Ockendorf

        Good news :)

      • Robert

Thank you, I look forward to )

  • beBoss

And what happened with the dev build 😀 😀 😀

    • Olli

Nothing it seems. That was a really boring week with only two small bugfix releases. So we’re now having at least 13 days without a dev build. That is the longest waiting time since over three months (but that time there was a major release in between). Since the first dev build of 37 also only consisted of a few bugfixes and a major Chromium upgrade, the next build hast to be huge.

      • BK

Hi, so long breaks should not happen often, sorry.
ATM we are silently cooking two bigger features. One is expected to go public next week, we are targeting Thursday, but this might change, ofc.
Nevertheless Thursday should deliver new build with enhancements around start page (and long expected option to remove plus button on start page).

        • Kai Ockendorf

Removing the plus button? How long have we waited for that!! Great news & looking forward to the build!

          • Herr Pietrus

It’s only a preparation for something spectacularly dreadful (two hidden features)

        • Nekomajin43

OMG, so much listening to the users! :O

        • Юлия

Please consider the other plus button as well. Or move it to the right side.
          https://i.imgur.com/xLm29z4.png

        • Druszlak

You guys are getting too soft… =D

          • BK

Don’t mix kindness with softness 😀

        • Herr Pietrus

“ATM we are silently cooking two bigger features”

As I’ve said it must be something really bad, because last two builds are so good that it can be real…
I foresee an revolution similar to the removal of the bookmarks…

          😛

        • Leonardo Gomes

Those features are the surprise ones?

        • Amazingeneer

Can we get a hint? 😉

  • Petrus Tenebrae (DarkShadow777

Any way to get back this flag?
    #tab-audio-indicator
Cool lookin’ but uses unnecesary resources to animate, resources that can be used instead for a smoother playback of media files.
    Thanks in advance 😀

  • Marko Koivuniemi

I’m not sure if this is a bug or feature. I would appreciate option that you cannot drag pinned tabs out of window. I manage occasionally do this by accident.

  • Herr Pietrus

First of all i see that the new download page is going to be great and fortunately new folders for different file types are no longer created! Cool!

Secondly I hope that in final 36 Disconnect will start to work again (I don’t like Ghostery so much) and that Smart RSS will also start to work properly in both views (it does in 37 developer) :)

And of course I’m really afraid of these hidden features you prepare. I’m expecting a real disaster, because Opera is becoming too good so it’s obvious that you have to spoil something in really spectacular way… 😛

    • Kornelia

Due to changes in extension APIs Disconnect stopped working with chromium 49. Authors of extensions haven’t updated their extension in our store yet. We already contacted them but don’t know when they will upload new version to Addons portal.”

      • Herr Pietrus

Thanks for the info. I hope they’ll do it since they’ll have the same problem with Chrome (BTW I see that the latest version in Web Store is newer – it was released on 21.01.16)

  • Gloriam

Ever since Opera 36 Beta websites like Youtube freeze for a bit after the page has loaded or when clicking on the search bar, I’ve experiencing this on different PC’s ranging from i7 to a core 2 duo.

  • Vlad

My suggestion – turn on / off the bookmarks bar with the mouse: http://jpegshare.net/ff/92/ff920ffc5753a349af209a2204b4c090.png.html

  • escruting

Opera is freezing more than ever in this and previous build. Specially on pages with flash content. Right now i cant use facebook AT ALL.

    • escruting

Restarting Opera solved it, but its happening multiple times a day.

      • Vux777

I usually open the same address in new tab…
but yea, it happens very often
        facebook, twitter …

        • Marko Koivuniemi

Glad that I’m not the only one. But much lesser here in OS X compared to my Win 10 64-bit machine. Difficult to report this kind of problems.

      • http://fbgm.eu/ FB George

This happened to me a lot too.
I did a clean install, reinstalled all extensions, imported bookmarks and it only happened very few times this week.

    • Eric83

I wonder if that’s related to the problem I’m having with excess memory use in my PPAPI process.

  • Ralf Brinkmann
  • sgrandin

One of the things I’ve mentioned here several times that has kept me away from using the new Opera as my main browser is the lack of scalable print preview/print. Here’s a simple example of how essential that is: http://fasterskier.com/blog/article/u-s-ski-team-officially-names-stc-team-tour-starts-tuesday/. I wanted to print the TV schedule, which is well down the page. In Opera 36, it’s split between two pages and there’s no way to adjust it. With Firefox, I could quickly adjust for the best scaling (81%) and then print. If I have to do that, why leave Opera 12, which due to your stubborness remains more user friendly than the new Opera in some ways that are important to me?

Here’s another example, one that poses a common problem: text is cut off on the right in print preview and needs to be scaled down to be whole. In this case, no amount of scaling would solve it, but in the vast vast majority of cases it does. http://www.webmd.com/cholesterol-management/features/fiber-groceries

  • Eric83

I’m using the Linux version, and I’m having a problem with the process that includes PPAPI using excessive amounts of memory, even over 2 gigabytes, which is more than my 4 GB machine feels like giving up. It’s enough to make Opera (and everything else) unresponsive at times. I haven’t had this problem before, and I don’t have it with the developer or stable versions.

    • Kornelia

Hi, which version of Flash you’re using and which pages you visits so we can try to reproduce your issue locally?

      • Eric83

I use the beta version for a specific work purpose rather than general browsing; I’ll try to watch to see if I can tell where the problem is occurring. I can tell you now that I usually have open Pandora.com and up to a dozen pages from About.com, which are often heavy with video. I also usually have open some password-protected pages with a cloud word processor that I mentioned in my DNA-49523 bug report (now resolved, by the way).

The plugins page says I have Adobe Flash Player Version 99.999.999.999 and Shockwave Flash 99.999 r999, which I assume is the Flash that comes as part of Chrome. I’m using Ubuntu 14.04.

      • Eric83

Just a follow-up on my earlier response: I’m not having the problem with the newest beta. The process with PPAPI seems to be varying between 80 and 130 MB or so, which I assume is normal and certainly isn’t causing me any problems. I’ll let you know if the issue returns and/or file a bug report if that seems appropriate.

  • Keiv M. Salmon

in addition to the constant page freezes, is anyone else experiencing pages taking a long time to load its contents?

    • xirit64

      No problems on W7x64.

  • José Alberto

am I alone? I don´t like opera works Import bookmarks and I see how the versions go ahead but import bookmarks still in a poor mode. I´d like to get here a work like yandex do it…

    • BK

so what exactly would you like?

  • L33t4opera

    New build – Opera beta 36.0.2130.26 😉

  • xirit64

Don’t worry, the latest virus update has caused that, it is being fixed https://forum.eset.com/topic/7567-jsscrinjectb-and-htmlrefreshbc-false-positive/

“After the update 13102, we started receiving reports about “JS/ScrInject.B” and “HTML/Refresh.BC” detections on various websites. The update was stopped immediately to mitigate the impact on users.

A new engine update 13103 is being prepared that will address the issue. In the mean time, as a hotfix you can switch to pre-release updates and then back.

We apologize for the inconvenience. “
