Hi,

thanks for all comments posted on Friday. We already fixed some crashes and annoying bugs, so here’s an update for you. We’re aware of ‘every-10minutes-crash’ on Windows (with #autoupdate-notifications flag enabled). Our Devs are working on it! Please test the builds and give us a feedback. Cheers!

Full changelog and links to the builds below.

New Opera Developer build 33.0.1967.0, nice although it’s a small update !
    Downloading and testing now…

  • siamak

    Waiting for Sidebar Toggle…

  • Konstantin Paramonov

    What does that mean?
DNA-42788 Force stats collection on every autoupdate

    • Arjan van Leeuwen

Opera collects some anonymized statistics on its UI usage, mainly which buttons you click / features you use (not on web usage…) (you can turn this on/off from the settings or when installing Opera). When it’s turned on, they would previously only be collected when doing an automatic autoupdate. This fix makes Opera collect them on manual autoupdate too.

  • Matheus Bombonato

No improvements for the Sidebar and the most annoying bug ever that avoid to open links from external applications still there! It’s impossible to use a browser that refuse to open links! That’s the most basic function of a web browser. Can’t keep using the test builds anymore :/

    • Ralf Brinkmann

Oh, I thought this link-opening-bug would be history. Unfortunately not. So I can not go on to test this version and have to wait for another one. Back to Beta. Sorry.

      • Devocalypse

In the same boat. Clicking feed links from opera mail to read an article => getting to enjoy a new speed dial tab… Shouldn’t take more than a minute to fix. I know it’s a developer stream but this is sabotage and opera is playing with users’ patience.

        • SuperTommy

If it took a minute to fix, it would have been fixed already. Users patience should be sky high when using developer, as bugs like this is expected.

          • Devocalypse

You surely jest. Are you being paid to write this? Here’s a tip: learn a programming language or two, make some apps, break some features while at it, fix those bugs, then come back here and explain how something as simple as launch arguments can be messed up so badly that it would take more than a minute to fix. Try again, troll.

          • SuperTommy

No, I’m not paid, I’m just telling it how it is. Do you think they do this to bother you, or because they find it funny? I study Software Engineering, so I do know a couple of programming languages. Your provoking techniques doesn’t work on me. Here’s a tip: learn some manners.

          • Devocalypse

You’re missing the point. Let me spell it out for you: A browser that cannot open links. That’s not deserving a public build, much less two. A oneliner can fix this. All excuses are plain lazyness on the dev’s part. With your experience in software you would know that too but fail to admit it.

          • Mikolaj Boc

Turned out to be a 3-liner actually, if you want the exact information. And you should be aware that you are getting our mainline builds that may be broken, even to the point of not opening links – regressions happen.

          • Devocalypse

Cheers for looking into it. Shame on me, I was 2 lines short 😀 I hope we get a new build soon. All the other bugs I can live with, but having to copy paste to the address bar all the time is frustrating as hell.

          • Mikolaj Boc

We’ve already fixed this, but a while after the dev builds were prepared. Sorry.

  • Cryio

    “every-10minutes-crash”

    Quite a thing to oversee.

  • L33t4opera

    Two new flags:
    – opera:flags#browser-engine-statistics Share statistics collected by the browser engine with Opera Software. The setting statistics.collection_enabled must be enabled.

    – opera:flags#submodule-native-theme-alt (Windows only) Enables an alternative native theme implementation, currently only on Windows 10.

    • Leonardo Gomes

The “alternative theme” one doesn’t seem to be working here.

      • Wando Schneider

Here is working fine. I just enabled the flag and restarted the Browser. I’m using W10 “Stable” (Build 10240). Are you using the insider build (10525)?

        • Leonardo Gomes

I’m on 10525, maybe this is the problem.

          • Linh Nguyen

i’m on 10525 and it works normally

        • Zik

          Can you make screenshot?

          • Wando Schneider
          • Zik

Oh, it changes scrollbar, now I get it. Thanks.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Hmm, this is how it should look? Still looks old style to me.

          • Wando Schneider

I don’t know how it should look, but is exactly like Chrome.

      • Wando Schneider

Leonardo, are you using High DPI ? If yes, this is why isn’t working ATM.

  • Trying to auto update to this build from previous build is failing via the “Relaunch Now” button on opera://about/

41 windows open (seems to be a bug with having a lot of windows open breaks some things)

    OS X 10.10.5

    • Have to use Opera Task Manager and kill every set of windows (Opera restart process was being blocked by some tabs)

After the update to this build the quit command works on 1 try

  • ma_t14

Is it just me or does it seem like Opera’s progress has stalled completely since the development has been moved to Poland and the rumours that it may be sold?

    • Lacedaemon

No it’s not only you 🙂 They even remove features like “Bookmarks Sharing” to cut costs. But don’t forget that according to the CEO, “with Opera 25, they ‘ve added all the features back Opera Presto had”

    • Nekomajin43

That’s not exactly true. Yes, there were no new major features since then, but they released several minor features and finished a lot. Just to name a few:
      – password sync
      – BM tree view
      – BM sorting
      – BM screenshot zoom

And the two events you have mentioned, there were months between them.

      • Lacedaemon

Those were features that were made many months ago, by Thorben Bocheneck respectively, except maybe the zooming. IMO Opera administration only used the Oslo team for designing the browser to the point that the new SD would be “modern looking by western standards” & finalized, considered the Opera browser “done” as a marketing product, compatible with phones of course -which is the A and Ω for them-, and then they got rid of them, leaving the Poland team for bugfixing and integrating Chromium updates in the future. Of course cutting costs of features like the one below as well.

        • Nekomajin43

When were these features released? Many month ago or now?

          • Lacedaemon

lol seriously? you are using that really bad argument to hide from the truth? Those features were working in the dev stream for many many, too many months now, nothing has changed for the user in the slightest. It’s in the same state as before, and you know why? because it is a work of an other and so it will just stay like that. They just are making sure it doesn’t brake anything.

          • bwat47

features like the BM tree view are definitely not in the same state they were months ago, there’s been a ton of bugfixes and improvements.

        • ma_t14

          Πες τα ρε πατρίδα

      • ma_t14

I wouldn’t really call fixes as “progress” especially when new developer snapshots that are supposed to bring new features instead bring nothing but fixes. You then know that something is definitely not right.

Anyway I’m just waiting for Vivaldi to stabilize and bring some performance improvements and I’ll move on. It’s just sad that what used to be the best browser for power users was ruined by bad management decisions.

    • Olli

Yeah, I’m afraid, desktop browser development at Opera is going to come to an end, soon.

  • I tried to install Opera-Developer and I’m finding that I can’t launch it unless I do so with via the command line. Is there a known fix for this? I have 12.15 installed too. Could that be where the problem stems from? The shared profile?

  • ъыь

same problem, as in the last build, again. clicking a link in another programm opens an empty speed dial page

    • SuperTommy

      It’s known.

  • Thomas Sawyer

The fullscreen zoom bug on SlideShare is still there:
    http://www.slideshare.net/barryjfeldman/30-effective-social-media-tactics

    • Kornelia Mielczarczyk

Hi Thomas, what bug do you mean? I’m able to perform zoom in full screen mode on this page.

      • Thomas Sawyer

Hi. It is the fullscreen option on SlideShare (via ‘View Fullscreen’ button), not the fullscreen window feature on Opera. It shows the slide image, but using a wrong zoom scale. Sometimes it flickers and gets back to normal, sometimes it zooms more than 100% and stays that way. It also happens on a clean install, and I was able to reproduce it on a Virtual Windows XP Machine too. This issue first appeared on the dev version 33.0.1963.0. No problems on the latest beta.

  • catup

    No new features?

  • Since the latest Opera Beta and developer version, It seems that I can’t invert the colors of a transparent background anymore. I used something like `html { -webkit-filter: invert(90%); }` to dim the web. However, its not working well anymore, but I really need this feature or my eyes crawl out at night.

  • x a

    • At least this and the previous build reproducibly only quit on the second consecutive ”O » Exit“ cycle.

    • Recent builds show wrong or irrelevant url trying to identify the locally installed certificate in order to warn about eavesdropping potential.

    • With this build spell checker is not working. With recent builds *each* installed dictionary language has radio/bullet point in front of it in the context menu all at the same time.

    [Win10/64bit]

    • Marko Koivuniemi

I can confirm first bug – at first I suspected my self that I click at the wrong place mut I checked and it actually need two times to exit. (win 8.1 64-bit)

    • x a

      PS:
Spell checker issue in a screen shot: » https://i.imgur.com/JTUUsE7.jpg

    • Vux777

I had to re-add language for spell check.

    • PaulW

Yes I’ve just noticed that the spell checker is not working..

    • Kornelia Mielczarczyk

      Thanks for pointing those issues.

  • schuppi

Since the new update I can’t use netflix anymore. I get the following failure: O7111-1957-205032. With Microsoft Edge I can use netflix normaly. Could the problem come by opera or computer?

    • Leonardo Gomes

Do you have Turbo enabled by chance? Also, do you see “Widevine Content Decryption Module” listed in opera:plugins?

      • schuppi

Turbo is disabled. But “Widevine Content Decryption Module” is listed and enabeld in opera:plugins.

        • Leonardo Gomes

in Opera’s profile folder there should be a “widevine” folder. There are any content in it?

  • Dark Magician

Fix Windows 10 problem with modern theme. It really is annoying.

    • Wando Schneider

With the latest Opera Developer (33.0.1967.0), using the flag #submodule-native-theme-alt, you’ll not see the w95 elements anymore (doesn’t work with high dpi) 😀

      • Wraith

        Thanks for that.!

      • Cryio

They should enable that flag by default for Opera 32.

It’s ridiculous. Windows 10 has launched for 1 month and the final build has been out for 6 weeks now.

  • Ghirahim

Why can’t I see webm files (saved on my disk) in Opera anymore? It just opens speed dial, that’s it.

    • Leonardo Gomes

Known issue, Opera is not opening external links if it’s closed.

Try opening the video from inside Opera.

      • Ralf Brinkmann

Not only if it’s closed, but also if Opera is in the background and I want to open a link from any other programm or application.

  • Laga Mahesa

Windows 10, the taskbar icon is a plain ‘notepad’ document. Is this a known thing or something else?

    • Wando Schneider

Can you show us some print screen?

      • Laga Mahesa

        Here you go:

        http://i.imgur.com/YRwbulw.png

        *EDIT:*

This happens regardless of the launching method: Nexus dock, shortcut to launcher.exe, launcher.exe directly, or opera.exe directly.

        • Wando Schneider

Weird. Doesn’t happen here (2 machines with Windows 10240 and 10525).

          • Laga Mahesa

10240 here. It’s definitely odd, I don’t get that with any other application.

          • This is a windows 10 issue. I have the same problem with other software after updates.

    • Ralf Brinkmann

I think you should delete (empty) the icon cache and restart. There is a german instruction (http://www.deskmodder.de/wiki/index.php?title=Iconcache_löschen), you can easily translate it to english via Google Translate, if you want. Or you can google for a description in your favorite language. I hope this helps.

      • Laga Mahesa

It kind of helped. That link didn’t work out (something about authorization), but a quick google search landed me here:

        http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5645-icon-cache-rebuild-windows-10-a.html

Here’s what it looks like now, lol.

        http://i.imgur.com/OEomf77.png

        • Ralf Brinkmann

After cleaning the icon cache, did you restart your computer? Possibly you should make a repair installation of Opera.

          • Laga Mahesa

I did restart. I’ll try the repair install tomorrow (it’s 1:30am here), but surely any corruption would have been caught by opera itself? Note that I always run a portable install.

  • Jake

Just noticed that I can’t use my Surface Pen on my SP3 with any of Opera’s controls (e.g. navigation buttons, menu, tabs). The webpage itself works fine. This only happens when I disable the “show cursor” option for the pen inside the Win10 settings. Can anybody confirm? Is this issue Opera or Windows related?

  • raphah

    I think anti pop-up isn’t working…

    • Ralf Brinkmann

Can you give us an example page please?

      • raphah

some times I open a new tab and another Ad/spam tab also open together. win 10 x64. with many adblock

        • Ralf Brinkmann

          Example?

        • Leonardo Gomes

          It looks like malware infection.

          • raphah

anti pop-up is working, but not everytime.

          • raphah

could be, but nod32 and malwarebytes didn’t find any malware.

anti pop-up is working, but not everytime.

don’t worry guys, maybe it’s not a opera issue

  • Pavel Aleksandrov

Is the sync bookmark and speed dial duplication bug fixed?

    • Ralf Brinkmann

      Yes.

      • Pavel Aleksandrov

Great, thanks. In about two months I get to use sync again.

  • And when will be ready a Windows x64 version?.

    • Leonardo Gomes

      When it’s ready? 🙂

    • Cryio

We had x64 version in Opera 12 and 12.1 then we lost it. In the meantime, Chrome has x64 version, Opera doesn’t

      🙁

  • Kamen Minkov

There’s something wrong with history and autocompletion. For example – visit this page – http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1014763/?ref_=nv_sr_1 – then enter just “44” in the address field. For me, nothing related is shown; I’d expect instead that the title of the page to be matched and shown in the dropdown.

    • Ralf Brinkmann

Yes, works here. The original title is shown in the dropdown list. W10x64.

      • Kamen Minkov

What can I do to troubleshoot this then? It doesn’t work for me both on my home PC running Win 10 x64 (10525) and my work one running OS X (10.10.5).

        • Ralf Brinkmann

Just to find out if we both mean the same, there is a screenshot of what I see: http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/imdbg5vexwn9iq.jpg. If you don’t have the same result, maybe something is blocking the function. You can try to disable all extensions or you close Opera, rename the profile folder (just for testing) and restart Opera. Opera will create a fresh and virgin profile. Later you can close Opera again and rename the old profile folder back.

          • Kamen Minkov

No, I was talking about typing in Opera’s address field, not IMDB’s search, otherwise it would’ve been an issue with the IMDB site and not Opera.

          • Ralf Brinkmann

Ok, now I understand. In my case if I open your link and then type “44” in the address bar, the dropdown list shows the url of that page and one more, because I don’t have any “44” in my bookmarks. But Lacedaemon already gave you the probably correct answer.

    • Lacedaemon

The problem is the 7 lines of Opera’s dropdown list. It was always like this but they never cared to expand it. If you have bookmarks with “44” like in my case (2), typing “44” shows 5 lines of google and 2 of my bookmarks, leaving no space for the history entry. Happening in any stream, it’s irrelevant to the OS.

      • Kamen Minkov

In my case it shows two other history entries that have ’44’ in the URL.

        • Lacedaemon

same case. not enough room to show the other one. Try deleting your history and visit that site again, it would show it. (I guess…)

          • Kamen Minkov

Yeah, that might do it. I’m noticing a trend, though – when I’m typing in the address field, Opera tends to match stuff in the URL. When I open the history, nothing from the visited URLs is matched and instead the matches are only in the titles.

          • Lacedaemon

I’m not sure I’m getting what you mean, there’s the title, the url and the time visited in History.

Regarding the other one, alternatively, you can disable the “prediction service to complete searches” in the settings to free more space, but this shouldn’t happen in the first place, Opera should really do something about the dropdown height, 7 lines in total is ridiculous.

          • Kamen Minkov

When attempting to test that thing with IMDB’s page for “Child 44”, there was another page that was popping up when typing in “44” and that page had “44” in the URL. Opening History and trying to search for “44” didn’t show that another page. It’s just by the way that I noticed that – the two search engines are inconsistent.

  • Łukasz Janik

in the Opera, 31.0.1889.174, mistakenly remembers two passwords on one side.i.e. logins are good, and the password entered at the same opera house, andremember passwords are different for the two logins. Please improve.

  • name

18 versions after 15 and Opera still seems Chrome, without any competitively advantageous difference!
Ah, wait! There is one! The Discover SPAM!

    • Marko Koivuniemi

This is enough for me. (Or not enough but I’m confident that Opera AS will implement new innovations in future and bring back old ones like tab stacking.) https://twitter.com/ErrorFourOThree/status/636668408956743680/photo/1

      • Dark Magician

I am not. They chose to make it dumb. Vivaldi has more features now, than Opera has implemented in years since switching to Blink.
Probably at the point of Vivaldi going stable, every user of old Opera will switch. And never look back.

        • Lacedaemon

And to think what it’s been said..”features take time…” Vivaldi is producing tons of them in every update. And is damn fast too, if not faster.

          • Rafael Luik

And buggy, crashy and with no performance optimizations that would lead to a Stable.

          • Lacedaemon

That’s subjective I’d say, never crashed on me and never had any problems (for a long time now, not speaking about the initial build) . It’s loading faster (both cold & warm startup), page loading is dare I say even faster than O. Also I disagree, there have been many performance optimizations in the UI, SD and tabs through the last months, and with the addition of Ruari Odegaard to the team.

        • Marko Koivuniemi

Vivaldi has done great job but they are doing one line of development with no worries. Opera has three lines needed for stability and public usage. I am one of potential users of Vivaldi but I’m confident that “The rumors of Opera’s death have been greatly exaggerated.”

        • Olli

And it is absolutely unstable and they don’t even fixs huge bugs I reported half a year ago or something.

    • Kamen Minkov

Just realised that you can actually remove default search engines in Chrome…

    • Fulerenic

Exactly! I already gave up Opera on desktop, after 9 years. On my Android phone it’s still number one (new mobile version is maybe even better than old 12.xx versions). But on desktop, “new” Opera is still very poor. Especially I don’t like the GUI which looks like a cheap copy of Chrome. Original Chrome is more clear, useful buttons are better available, I can hide bookmarks tab (and see it just on blank page so it doesn’t block vertical space during surfing). And those square tabs (without rounded edges), which is difficult to distinguish. And infantile Heart icon, while all other browsers have Star. IMHO the sequence is following: Opera 12 > Chrome > Chropera.

  • Vivaldi Web Browser Snapshot 1.0.252.3 now on by default smooth scrolling, x64 Windows also has version.

    When the day of Opera?.

    • Use Vivaldi. Problem solved.

      • Olli

Vivaldi is extremely unstable at this point.

    • bwat47

all vivaldi did was enable the chromium smooth scrolling parameter. you can enable it in Opera yourself by going to your opera shortcut > properties and add –enable-smooth-scrolling to the end of the target field.

Chromium doesn’t have this enabled by default yet because the implementation isn’t quite finished, you can see progress on smooth scrolling in chromium here: https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=575

      • Lacedaemon

“Chromium doesn’t have this enabled by default yet because the implementation isn’t quite finished, you can see no progress here: https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=575

        Fixed.

        • bwat47

There was no activity on it for a long time, but there’s been a lot this year. I think they are at least serious about implementing it now:

          https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=501568

“Looks like many of these come from wordpress themes like this one: http://themeforest.net/item/jarvis-onepage-parallax-wordpress-theme/5370691. They are also often installed only when ‘chrome’ is in the user agent string. Perhaps this is what we get for leaving the popular issue 575 unfixed for so long!”

“My plan is to help push smooth scrolling along (issue 575) and once that has shipped we’ll publish something encouraging people to stop using smoothscroll.js (it can only hurt scroll performance). Then (with proper care / evangelism) we’ll plan to break the sites still depending on that library.”

I agree its absurd how it’s 2015 and it doesn’t already have proper smooth scrolling though

  • PaulW

I use an app called KeyTweek which allows you to remap any key on the Windows keyboard. I remaped the left Windows key to “WWW Back” so that i don’t have to go to the top every time I want to go back a page. I have found in this version that this no longer works correctly and jumps back two pages. Just checked on my laptop that had the previouse version on and it was fine but when I upgraded to this version it jumped back two pages as well..

  • andyx1975

Opera has issues with playing Music on Google Music. It does not play any song!!!

    • Ralf Brinkmann

Is there a possibility to try that out without having an account?

      • Andyx1975

They offer a 30 days test period… this you can use to give it a try

        • Ralf Brinkmann

I can not open the link to start the test period. Presumably I have to disable all my blockers, but I’m not going to do this, because I don’t know, which tricks they use to make and keep me a paying customer. Maybe anybody who has already a regular account. Sorry.

  • Vux777

    buggy build:

-clicks are failing very often (no mouse cursor-pointer on links, and it takes couple of seconds for click to open)

-if mouse gesture fails (maybe page is still loading or something like that), gestures completely stopped working until restart

-Google still forcing search results for Norway

-spell check must be confirmed in every session

-if contextMenu have more that one enum (eg. editable AND selection) when those two match in single click, only one is presented

i have only “Disable hyperlink auditing” enabled in flags

    • Vux777

      but on the bright side:

it is possible to comment here on Disqus with Turbo 2

…and some other sites are working correctly

      edit:
so my trolling actually took effect? ツ

    • Ralf Brinkmann

Which system (OS)? Which videos? Example page?

      • Sunny

any video on facebook. I am on Win 10, Previously everything worked fine

        • Ralf Brinkmann

Sorry, I don’t know anything about Facebook videos. Maybe anybody else. If you can give us an url of a video outside of Facebook I can try it out (W10x64 Pro).

Do you have latest ppapi flash?

      • scam

The same problem. Twitter, Vimeo and some other html5 videos does not work. Windows 7 64bit. Opera 33 (and previous versions have the same problem).

  • modemjunkie

Facebook messenger dialog hangs near (and off )the bottom of the screen and is extremely difficult to manipulate, Works fine in Firefox and in 31.0.1889.174 – Stable -System:Windows 7 64-bit (WoW64)

  • modemjunkie

Keystrokes often lag in the latest developer. Not in 31.0.1889.174 Stable — System:Windows 7 64-bit (WoW64)

    • Marko Koivuniemi

I can confirm this behaviour. Very annoying. (WIndows 8.1 (64-bit)

Can we PLEASE get a warning dialog if we close Opera when there are more than one tab open or downloads running.

    • ingviowarr

Agree. If any download -> Close Opera confirmation needed

  • CrashNBurn71

So I haven’t seen Last Pass mentioned in a changelog, nor in comments since Opera 32.0.1933.0 went into a perpetual crash loop.

    Is this still not fixed?

    • Wando Schneider

      Yes, this bug was fixed.

Passing a REQUEST: A shortcut entry about showing/not showing images (found in Settings->Websites->Images)

For not having to go to the settings all the time, finding the entry and clicking/unclicking it. This is crucial on limited speed-dial connections with restrictions on bandwidth (DL caps). And no, “Site-specific Preferences” extension is not the same, since you have to visit the site firstly to set the image preference, which is the equivalent of making a hole in the water.

edit: there’s also “Image Blocker Plus” but still, it requires always 2 clicks for enabling/disabling images.

[BUG] Recently closed – text disappears on mouse hover (developer)
    ——————–
Hello, I noticed one bug in last development release (not in last beta). When I click the “more tabs” button (at tab bar right), then open Recently closed list: after mouse hover of any line in the list, the line’s text (page title) disappears.

[BUG] Can’t choose speed dial image for some bookmarks (developer, beta)
    ——————–
And also one bookmark-related issue (last devel and last beta): on some sites I can’t get any speed dial thumbnail image (reproduce: open bookmark from speed dial (f.ex. http://zpravy.idnes.cz/ or http://explosm.net/comics/latest) -> click on the heart icon in the URL bar, then the image in the shown box is grey and I can’t list any other. The Speed dial item has the ugly default image.

    • SuperTommy

The first one is known. I can’t reproduce with the second, works fine here.

  • raphah

why Spell Checker is not working after reboot? I always to turn it off and turn it on again to work

  • Is the Windows 10 issue with scrollbars and checkboxes fixed?

    • SuperTommy

Not quite yet. You can enable submodule-native-theme-alt in flags in the meantime.

  • Farhan Rashid

facebook chat windows are messed up, same in version 32.
only working ok till verion 31.

  • Footman

opera cant open many sites on mac. for example http://www.macuser.de/ from developer version to stable.

  • Ralf Brinkmann

Why is http://get.opera.com/ftp/pub/ not available? Uploading a new version?

    • Vux777

      works fine

      • Ralf Brinkmann

Works, does not work, works, does not work…

  • David_Gould

The new-tab-not-loading bug persists. Mostly seen with > 180 tabs open (delayed loading).

It might be slightly improved since the last developer build. The following seems to be a related problem. I’ve been using The Great Suspender because it automatically suspends tabs and stops them using memory. But recently, it’s been suspending tabs as a _different_ tab ie different site, content etc.

    New build – Opera developer 33.0.1982.0 😉
The change log, and the announcement.
