The mobile web is a fast-growing phenomenon. More and more people are getting online with their phones and tablets. And, we have several mobile browser options for you.

Nevertheless, desktop computers and laptops are still very important platforms. You use a computer for work, research, studying and other stuff that takes more of your time. So, we continue working hard on Opera for computers.

Opera 30 brings you better tab management, multitasking with sidebar extensions, more careful ways of removing or restoring your bookmarks.

Switch between tabs faster

If you research online – for example, I’ve been reading about one of the latest product in our portfolio – VPN service SurfEasy, you may find yourself in a situation where you have a dozen or so tabs open that you need to switch between. Now, you can cycle through tabs even faster. Opera 30 switches tabs in chronological order and, using tab previews, creates a great, visual tab cycler. So, you can finish your tasks faster with fewer key strokes.

Customize even more with sidebar extensions

Multitasking is not always an efficient habit, especially if you want to accomplish more in less time. However, sometimes you need to compare results or see something in context to squeeze more information out of what you’re doing. That’s why Opera 30 includes sidebar extensions. These little add-ons have the full flexibility of extensions but get more space to be effective. Write notes, tweet on the go, or get a dedicated media player. Give them a try and tell us what works for you the best.

Restore bookmarks or delete them permanently with the trash folder

We do like reading comments on this blog and even answer a few of them. 😉 Quite often you give us very exact bug reports or ideas to improve the product. So, I bookmark links to the comments and revisit them when release fever has calmed down. When ideas are logged and bugs are submitted, I start to remove these bookmarks. But now, I don’t need to worry if I remove something I may need. Opera 30’s trash folder lets me restore anything I might accidentally remove.

Security fix

Some of you might have been aware of the recent logjam attack that was affecting browsers. Don’t fear! Your Opera browser is safe. Read more about the logjam attack here.

Yes, Desktop is doing well. Tablets have not managed to kill PCs, yet; they are perceived as entertaining devices or sales equipment. Nevertheless, ‘desktops’ do not depend on devices. They depend on your use and needs. It does not matter what device you connect to the biggest screen in your space. It could be your mobile phone, USB-stick size computer or an oversized wearable. But, add a wireless keyboard, a mouse and anything will your desktop computer, just by the way you use it.

    Thanks

    • Apocalypse

What is this? Every time we have stable, shows comments like this one. Yes very congratulation!!

      • nanana1

It’s just my simple and sincere way to say a big “thank you” to the Opera Team for bringing us this Opera 30 Stable version and I am fully aware that the process has taken many beta’s and developers’ builds to get here.

        • Apocalypse

Yeah. Sure. I dont buy it. Looks like always same positive comment every time we have a stable release.

          • nanana1

Not taking for granted and always thankful when we have any Stable, Beta or Developer build release from this Opera Desktop Team !

          • Apocalypse

And how much they pay for this “thankful”? 🙂

          • nanana1

            Nothing.

      • SuperTommy

Is that a problem? nanana1’s been doing it for a long time, and it gives regulars on this blog a smile on our faces. Positivity isn’t a crime.

The latest version didn’t arrive to my Kubuntu 14.04 via repo.

    • Łukasz Jagielski

Hey, it should be there now.

  • Matej Szendi

Can you add option to disable tab preview on CTRL+TAB?

    • Wando Schneider

Hi Matej. Go To: Settings > Shortcuts > configure Shortcuts

There’s two different shortcuts: to cycle having the preview, you need to configure “Cycle backward through tabs” and “Cycle forward through tabs” (this is already the default, so you need to associate the keys with the other option – Switch). If you want to restore the usual behavior of Ctrl + tab and CTRL + SHIFT + Tab, set the “Switch left through tabs” and “Switch right through tabs”.

      • Matej Szendi

Thanks, this is much better now.

  • Ivan

Please make it possible to open any file with a default application, and run any program instead of downloading it. For example if I’m doing some research on Internet, and I find some Word document in a search result, I don’t know whether it will be useful; so I might want just to open it (as well as many other documents) and not to accumulate any junk on my computer. Same for programs. Suppose I want to check my computer for viruses, so I go and download dr.web cureit for example. I don’t want to keep it but run for one time and forget about it for a year

    • Ivan

If it’s not clear, here is a scheme
When I download a non-executable file I’d like to see these options:
      | Open | | Save | | Cancel |

When I download a program I want to see these:
      | Run | | Save | | Cancel |

I think even Chrome is capable of this.
If you think that your browser will become overly complicated with these features then just make it possible to turn them on in opera://flags

  • Alun Thomas

No bookmarks show up in the bookmark menu from the opera button, even with multiple folders with multiple bookmarks in each folder. Makes bookmark access, and by extension the browser experience itself, incredibly slow and tedious.

Version: 30.0.1835.52 – Opera is up to date
    Update stream: Stable
System: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS (x86_64; default)

Edit – the bookmarks are there somewhere, because if you right click on the menu item and select ‘open all’ it asks if I want to open 141 tabs. I can also right click and save as a speed dial folder. They just aren’t enumerated as menu items I can select.

    • http://trollsyopensource.blogspot.com.es/ Eduardo Medina

Did anyone have problem with youtube?

    • 423423

What kind of problem? Although I work not for Opera, I am a software developer too, and this kind of vague problems’ reporting annoys us as hell.

      • Капри Лени

I cant play any video on YT, just loading. It started this morning, when opera updated..

        • Dart

Go opera://flags/#mse-h264-support and disable this option, then restart opera, it should help.

          • tdudziec

Do you have an example of youtube movie that does not work when MSE is enabled ?

            On which Opera version?

What OS do you have ?

          • ja

No video works. I have this problem only on Windows 7 32-bit. But everything works fine on 64-bit version of this OS. It started this morning with the v30 update. HTML5 in Firefox works fine.

          • ja

This helped, thank you. What was the problem?
Again, it workes fine for me in WIn 7 64-bit without tweaking. The problem was only on Win7 32-bit.

          • Капри Лени

            It works now, thank you.

    • ja

I also have the problem with YouTube. The new Opera version defaults to HTML5 video, and HTML5 video will not load in Opera. I have no idea how this is a stable version. Developer channel, Beta channel, Stable channel, and this problem still makes it in the Stable version.

      • Olli

First of all, HTML 5 video plays nicely for me in Opera 31 Developer. And yes, Youtube set the HTML 5 player as default player for Opera now (as it did for Safari and Chrome for a while). A way to bring back Flash is an extension from the Chrome Web Store called “Disable Youtube HTML5 Player” – you can install extensions from the Chrome Web Store with the Opera extension “Download Chrome Extension”.

      • Angela Wang

Hey there. Are you still using the NPAPI flash? We switched to Pepper Flash and were reminding to update to PPAPI (pepper) with a notification. If you didn’t update and they have only NPAPI now you might have problems with it. /Angela

At home Windows 7×64, At work Windows 7×32. Opera 30.0.1835.52. Any video on youtube doesn’t work. Perhaps youtube doesn’t work on 32 bit system.

          • Marcin Mitek

It does work. Any chance that you have Windows 7 Professional N version at work? You could fix that by installing this package http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16546

          • Dart

At work I have Windows 7×32 sp1 ultimate.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate x86 (not the N or KN version) and youtube doesn’t work for me either. On my laptop with Windows 8.1 x64 everything works as expected. Cheers.

        • BK

Thanks for the report. We do have issue with youtube (mse & h246) Disabling that in opera:flags is quick workaround.

          We are working on fix.

  • Tyus Prows

After upgrading from 29 Opera doesn’t respond at all. Last session tabs are opened but no page can load. Can’t open settings page, about page or anything. Anyone else get this?

    • Angela Wang

Hey Tyus. possible workaround: locate the Preferences file in the profile directory, back it up somewhere else, then – remove it. Restart Opera
(usually C:UsersUsernameAppDataRoamingOpera SoftwareOpera Stable). if that doesn’t help, it’s probably a corrupted profile…
In that case, I can only suggest removing the whole profile altogether /Angela

  • pekikuubik

It took 16 versions to get the tabs to cycle in recently used order. I guess it’ll take another 16 to get them to close in recently used order.

And before anyone suggests Classic Tabs… As is always the case with extensions, since it’s not native it’s not a perfect solution and has its quirks.

  • Stanislav Stratil

Can you please add some notification about opera update? Something like little message popup in the corner, that “Opera was updated from v29 to v30 – check our blog for changes.” ?

It didnt even occured to me, that opera was updated, until I visited youtube, which wasnt working, so after few minutes of wondeirng wats going on, I realized, maybe opera was updated and something went wrong with youtube? – I was right on the nail.

And for some feedback about new sidepanel – Its useless for me right now.

I was hoping for password synch in this release…

    • SuperTommy

Password synch is being worked on, but is not a flag enabled by default in developer yet. So you will probably have to wait for O32 or later, depending on how testing goes.

What makes the sidepanel useless for you?

    • x a

Can you please add some notification about opera update? Something like little message popup in the corner, that “Opera was updated from v29 to v30 – check our blog for changes.” ?

For that there I have this tiny extension available: Browser Update Watchdog.

  • Юлия

Moving mouse pointer over a list of bookmarks seems to be very demanding in terms of CPU usage. Why? I’m using Opera Developer. A while ago I reported a similar issue about the Speed-panel.

Also Opera isn’t using the operating system default style for buttons anymore? I’m using Windows 7.

    http://i.imgur.com/eXvsgQ3.png

    • SuperTommy

Issues related to the developer version should be asked in a developer blog post, to not cause confusion. But yes, there’s a new design style for buttons and controls in the developer version.

      • Юлия

Yes, that was as a side question. My main concern is the high CPU usage while hovering bookmarks or tiles in Speed-panel. It maxes a 3770k.

        • SuperTommy

I can confirm your issue with high CPU usage. I’ll file a report for you.

  • Kalo

Good that there is a sidebar but I hoped that the sidebar has the notes capability without an add-on as I want to sync those notes too.
Is this still on the agenda for the future?

  • Nachiketa Ramesh

Just to be clear, is Opera Stable 30 out or not?

    • SuperTommy

Do you have a problem updating?

      • Nachiketa Ramesh

It says Opera is up to date. Its on 29.0.1795.54600. So its not on 30.

    • Angela Wang

Hi there! Yes it is 🙂 Have you updated? If you click on Opera/About Opera it should start downloading the new version 🙂 /Angela

      • Nachiketa Ramesh

The auto update doesn’t seem to be picking up 30. So still on 29. I’m going to try with the installer.

        • Angela Wang

Lemme know how it goes. Remember to log onto your Opera account so you can sync ur goodies. /Angela

          • Nachiketa Ramesh

Got it updated :). The auto updater didn’t work for me so i had to use the installer but that worked fine. For some reason this seems to be force closing on me quite often. Mostly on youtube pages though

          • Angela Wang

Do you have the latest version of flash? or maybe you run any YouTube extensions? /Angela

          • Nachiketa Ramesh

No extensions. I have the latest version of flash but YouTube seems to be using HTML 5 instead.

          • Angela Wang

I see. YT is picking it up by default on its own. Do you use XP? /Angela

          • Nachiketa Ramesh

            No I use 8.1.

  • Sergey Ivanov

Why does sidebar is closed when I restart the browser? This terribly inconvenient!

    • SuperTommy

To make it remain open, you have to go to Settings -> On Startup and change to “Continue where I left off”

      • Sergey Ivanov

Nope, It is not the solution.
I want speeddial on startup. If I use opera://startpage/#speeddial, sidebar does not open.
If I use “Continue where I left off” and last page – speeddial, sidebar does not open.

        • SuperTommy

Sidebar remains open here with “Continue where I left off.” But it’s not a good solution for those who want only Speed Dial on open as well, but that is unfortunately the only solution as of today.

          • Herr Pietrus

Next “great” idea directly from Opera software and their UI experts… tsss…. Hope they’ll fix it.

  • bviktor

How do I disable that tab menu thing on the right when switching between tabs?

    • L33t4opera

Hi, if by “switching between tabs” you mean switching the tabs using “Ctrl+Shift+Tab” / “Ctrl+Tab”, go to the opera:settings/configureCommands, and remove the default key bindings for the “Cycle backward through tabs” / “Cycle forward through tabs” (or rebind them to e.g. “Ctrl+F1″/”Ctrl+F2”), and then scroll down to the “Switch left through tabs”/”Switch right through tabs”, and add “Ctrl+Shift+Tab” / “Ctrl+Tab” for these functions (or you can use the default shortcuts: “Ctrl+PageUp”/”Ctrl+PageDown” or “Ctrl+1″/”Ctrl+2”).

      • bviktor

        Uh…..

      • Jaredcheeda

It’s fantastic that we have the ability to manually fix this debacle (this is why I like Opera, lots of customizability), but it’s a little disappointing that there isn’t just a checkbox for it in the settings. Now that I’ve got the browser functioning properly again, how do I outright remove that useless icon from my tab bar. The only thing that should be there are my tabs, STOP PUTTING CRAP THERE THAT’S WHY I LEFT CHROME! I tolerate the stupid Opera menu in the corner, but I won’t put up with this useless “Tab manager” crap. How do I get rid of it, and how long until there’s a checkbox in the settings to disable/hide it more easily.

        • L33t4opera

To find out, how to disable the “recently closed” in the Tab menu, please read here.

          • Jaredcheeda

I did that, it didn’t do anything. Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/snbzvqS.png

          • L33t4opera

In that case, please go to the Settings > User interface, and see if the checkbox on the left of the “Enable tab menu” is not ticked, and if so, then untick it.

          • Jaredcheeda

YESSSSSSSS! This is the greatest day in my life!

          • L33t4opera

            😉

      • escruting

This is not completely useful. Backwards and left are not the same thing, and right and forward neither. Now we cant cycle through tabs without previews and with the last used tabs order. The same for the need to release the CTRL key to see the page.

  • Gustav Ekner

  • DGR

    Dear Opera team!
What the sh*t have you done?!
Our JIRA isn’t available anymore in Opera 30!
    I received the following message:

Server has a weak ephemeral Diffie-Hellman public key
This error can occur when connecting to a secure (HTTPS) server. It means that the server is trying to set up a secure connection but, due to a disastrous misconfiguration, the connection wouldn’t be secure at all!
In this case the server needs to be fixed. Opera won’t use insecure connections in order to protect your privacy.

Let me to decide: which connection is secured and which is not!
How can I disable this stupid protection?!

    • x a

Let me to decide: which connection is secured and which is not!

      You cannot decide the facts.

You can only decide to live with the breakable encryption of the transferred data for a particular purpose.

    • https://vivaldi.net/unity/profile/chas4/6-blog Chas4

That means your JIRA server has a security issue, see http://www.opera.com/blogs/security/2015/06/unjam-the-logjam/ (Other updated browsers will give you the same message)

      • DGR

Thanks for the info… But it’s not easier anyway… Even knowing that (facepalm)

        • http://www.blackcoder.de blackcoder

          Get the server updated.

          • Miroslaw Aleksander Mrnk

I have the same message trying to access my university library catalog. No logging etc. is required to use it. I have no way of updating that server (duh), so this is a deal-breaker for me, as well as many other users. I’m not happy with this, as I dislike both chrome as well as firefox, but this is just something I cannot work with.

          • http://www.blackcoder.de blackcoder

There is nothing to fix here for Opera. If you read the article on the blog Chas4 mentioned you will see that all Opera did is blocking Diffie-Hellman key exchange with less than 1024 bit.

DH with less than 1024 bit is considered insecure. Even 1024 bit could already be problematic (could be in reach of the NSA etc).

There is no login required to be affected by this. This is for example related to websites using HTTPS.

If you check that university site with the following test you will probably see that they are doing something wrong:

            https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/

          • Miroslaw Aleksander Mrnk

Yes, but that doesn’t help me. I don’t care what their doing wrong. If my credentials were involved (the login section works fine) I’d be more understanding, but I don’t care if someone learns what library books I’ve been looking for. A browser is a tool for me. I want to be informed if a website I’m using does not comply with safety standard, so that I don’t do something stupid: I have no problem with this. I have a problem with my browser not allowing me to use a website that I need for work. I’d really prefer if they’d allow me to view the page after a warning, NSA or no NSA. If this feature stays, I’m going to have to stop using Opera, which disappoints me, because I like this browser.

          • http://www.blackcoder.de blackcoder

I guess what you don’t know is that it is not only about stopping an eavesdropper to see which books you are looking for but even to stop the attacker to tamper with the data on it’s way between the server and you. In case of HTTP you cannot even know if that what you are receiving from the server is the original content. So the attacker could show you an modified website with at worst malware.

There have been cases where a café owner modified website you where visiting through their WLAN to display their own advertisements.

I would bet money on it that this feature stays. Further I am pretty sure the other browsers will handle it the same – sooner or later – if not already.

Thanks for the quick reply !

        • Vux777

also this.. if just last one
          edit:
that is tab right click…and you can go back in history of closed tabs by opening them one by one…
sometimes is quicker than opening from list

          • Intruder7s

            Nice find ! Thanks

  • 423423

    WOW! beautiful face!

    • Eleanor

      Thanks………?

      • x a

        (S)he stole Yvonne Catterfeld’s face.

        • 423423

I presume that Yvonne Catterfeld is a singer known only in Germany.

          • http://www.blackcoder.de blackcoder

Yes, and I didn’t heard anything of her since years. Not that I am sad about that. 😀

  • Lacedaemon

    One time it’s a green-blue/red thing, another time it’s green/blue. Random, chaotic behavior. http://postimg.org/image/mbhnoj1oz/
And all SD items are being shown as urls for half a second during the first loading of the browser (and about 0.2 seconds when reloading the Speed Dial) before being shown as (default) thumbnails.

  • Gummint Contractor

First, if I wanted to access bookmarks, I had to go to a special tab. Then the bookmarks got moved to a menu item where all the bookmarks showed, along with folders. Specific items could be “deleted”. Then specific items could be “removed” and the “deleted” choice disappeared.

Then I opened my browser today and all my bookmarks had disappeared. My folders were empty. It cost me 5 minutes to discover they had all been moved back to a tab instead of a menu listing.

Will you please quit acting like Microsoft and stop moving things around at random just because you can???????

    • SuperTommy

This is a known bug, and not an intended change.

      • Lacedaemon

Yet quite alienating bringing such a major bug to the stable (when it’s already known since the dev stream) as the above post shows. If not fixed it should at least been mentioned in the blog announcement as a “known issue”.

      • Gummint Contractor

It appears to me as if it is 2 or more development teams working on almost but not quite identical source code with different event handlers in each team’s source code. YMMV.

  • https://vivaldi.net/unity/profile/chas4/6-blog Chas4

Is your account hacked? That is a work from home scam

  • bendzsike

This sidebar is so lame comparing to old opera or vivaldi. It cannot get closed at all. LOL. Feels like a kludge.

    • Nekomajin43

      It can be closed. 🙂

      • Trevor Gough

        How?

        • Nekomajin43

The same way it can be opened. Use the O-menu or the ctrl+shift+s shortcut.

Apart from this, a panel switch would be good.

          • Trevor Gough

Thanks for the reply; I was aware of the menu and ctrl-shift-s options. I was hoping for a panel toggle or close button, though.

    • Jan

I switched now from Opera old to Opera 30 because of the Sidebar.

      Press Shift+Ctrl and s… tada!

I really like the “V7” sidebar extension. The most useful though is the site preference ext and the extension manager.

Have you really used Vivaldi a little bit more? It is a tech preview and you cannot really use it on a regular base.

      • Nekomajin43

The Site Settings Sidebar extension is a little bit buggy on v30 because of a few missing stuff from the API side. I will look into it to fix them on v30.

        • Jan

cool that you keep working on it. 🙂

      • L33t4opera

        Press Shift+Ctrl and s… tada!

        It’s a kind of magic 😉

        • Jan

this video is blocked in germany. 😀

          • L33t4opera

If you want, then you can try this one 😉

  • Trevor Gough

Why does Opera not update? Why is Opera the only browser which gives me fits with so many videos, though I have every plugin updated and operating? Frustrated with Opera today … ughh.. Other browsers update just fine; other browsers play videos just fine.

    • https://vivaldi.net/unity/profile/chas4/6-blog Chas4

Adobe released updates to Flash Player (version 18) today, that might fix Youtube (if you are getting the flash player on Youtube) and others

      • Trevor Gough
        • https://vivaldi.net/unity/profile/chas4/6-blog Chas4

What is wrong with the site?

          • Trevor Gough

            Video will not play.

          • https://vivaldi.net/unity/profile/chas4/6-blog Chas4

Try with newer version of Opera 30 http://www.opera.com/blogs/desktop/2015/06/opera-stable-30-0-1835-59-minor-update/

You should get it on opera://about/

          • Trevor Gough

I already did this. The same problem exists there.

          • https://vivaldi.net/unity/profile/chas4/6-blog Chas4

Any ad blockers or content blockers?

            I get it to play
            OS X 10.10.3

Tho I would guess the devs would want to ask in the forums or the current stable build blog post comments

          • Trevor Gough

No ad blockers or content blockers here…Windows 7, 32-bit.

        • Leonardo Gomes

What happens if you disable flash in opera:plugins?

          • Trevor Gough

Disabling Flash did not change anything. The video at each of those links still does not play.

          • Leonardo Gomes

And what if you also enable opera://flags/#enable-platform-accelerated-video-decoding ?

          • Leonardo Gomes

What happens if you disable browser://flags/?search=mse#mse-h264-support ?

          • Trevor Gough

I’ve done it before. It did not help.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Does this video plays in Opera for you?

          • Trevor Gough

It only plays when I click on the download button at the bottom of the page first.

          • Leonardo Gomes

            But it plays in Opera?

          • Trevor Gough

Yes, it plays in Opera 30 as I said ONLY IF I click on the “download” button at the bottom of the page first.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Hmm, ok. Here it plays directly.
Not sure if this is related to your issue.

          • Trevor Gough

            It does not help.

  • Eric

So what happened to my “recently closed tabs” section? I can’t find it.

    • L33t4opera

      Hi, please see here.

      • Eric

Thank you. I understand the desire for UI changes, but this one really made me scratch my head.

Usually, when things like this happen a one time help balloon would suffice.

      • Eric

Actually, this stopped working overnight on me. I have the option on but it is not displaying on the menu bar.

Guess I’ll have to get used to the new, multi click way.

        • L33t4opera

Hi Eric, I just checked, and this still works here on Linux, and Windows, maybe try this: enable the flag, restart the Opera, and disable it again, relaunch the Opera, and see if this helps.

  • Jozef Pistej

after update to 30 almost every tab (page) is crashing down due to conflict with extensions, … extension tab is crashing down too :/ i can not turn them off

    • tdudziec

What extension do you have? Which extension is causing crashes for you?

      • Jozef Pistej

i found that enabled flag opera://flags/#enable-win32k-renderer-lockdown was causing crashes, I switched it do default and everything it’s ok
        – automatic update to Opera 30.0 didn’t work
        – after manual update to Opera 30.0.1835.52 it found new version 30.0.1835.59 in opera://about/ with button Restart, after restart it was the same order version, only maual instalation help

  • Krasen Ivanov

I searched like 10 mins for the recently closed tabs…………… 😀 Also I just saw the comments, people are like me 🙂

  • devirto

What happen to Soundcloud again “There was a problem playing this track.” pop up all the time , my favorite browser don’t want to play my music or what

    • Leonardo Gomes

No problems with Soundcloud here, at least on the main page.

      • devirto

I found the solution in ‘opera: flags’ (opera://flags >>> Proprietary media types (Enables the use of system decoders to decode proprietary media formats.) >>> Change from Enabled to Disabled >>> Restart browser and VOILA … SC is working again) …BUT… that was in version 29 stable … NOW in version 30 stable it’s not possible because in ‘opera: flags ‘ there is no option to disable system decoders … I need help to solve the problem … it’s very important to me SC work again as before

        • Leonardo Gomes

          Which OS do you use?

          • devirto

            Win 7 32-bit sp1

          • devirto

Just did fresh (clean) install and nothing changed … still not working , …
btw probably no one going to do nothing about this problem (not even say a word), everyone worry about tabs, icons bla bla etc ,nobody interested about important things like functionality (like SC issue) so i’m tired already to wait this “wonderful” browser to become really wonderful (15 versions already) so good luck but without me anymore 🙁 🙁 🙁

  • Madness

Please bring back a separate search field on the toolbar. It makes searching much easier when your search terms are always visible no matter what tab you are on. Copying Google on this has caused me to start using FireFox as my primary browser. This new feature looks nice though.

  • proxxy

What I miss from Opera is:

    – customizable mouse gestures (reopen last tab, scroll top/bottom);
    – customizable speed dial (at least to hide add button);
    – option to add home button like in Chrome and to remove user button from right;
    – mute specific tab, like Chrome;
    – extension sync;

Unfortunately, opera is one step behind chrome and firefox, but still good and having chances of be even better if the developers will focus to what’s really important for user, not the button styles and discover page.

    • Jaredcheeda

That stupid User Profile “sign into your browser” bullshit Chrome was doing is the reason I switched to Opera, then a week later they did the same thing. Fortunately you can hide the “My Opera” user icon. I did it the week it came out. You’ll need to do some Googling though to find out how to hide it.

Now if only you could hide the god-awful “Tab Manager” bullshit they added in v30.

  • vfdv

UP TO DATE IN WHAT PART OF THE WORLD?

    • Chris Busi

      same problem here

    • Cryio

It will probably hit the stable channel on your end eventually. On my end, Opera upgraded on my W8 desktop instantly.

    • Leonardo Gomes

I guess that not every install updates at the sane time or even in the same day as it could cause Opera servers to collapse due to high traffic.

  • JR

Opera crashes quite often, mostly when I close a tab. In previous versions I could avoid this behavior by disabling hardware acceleration, but this does not seem to work anymore. I am using version 30.0.1835.52 on Windows 7 32-bit.

    • Cryio

      GPU, drivers?

    • Marko Koivuniemi

Any other flags changed compared to defaults? Haven’t had crashes in ages but I do have different system (8.1 64-bit). But earlier when I was playing with flags made my Opera unstable too. (I have bad behaviour to copy entire profile when I switch my default browser between developer and stable – that way some very old settings could be there causing troubles)

      • JR

I have checked on opera://flags, everything is set to default.

  • Herr Pietrus

I hope that sidebar extensions will become much more popular now and some talented people will develop something nicer and better corrsponding with Opera’s UI than this pathetic bookmarks extension on the screenshoot!

And I hope still that Opera will also do something with… you know what I’m talking about.
As for now, still happy with Opera 28.

    • Vux777

there is no any bookmarks extension on screenshots

      • sbs73000
        • SuperTommy

          It’s a note extension.

          • sbs73000

            Ah ah ! That’s right ! 🙂

      • Herr Pietrus

Yeah, you’re eight 🙂 That was an extension for the notes… still ugly like a November night – as we say in Poland 😛

        • Vux777

…aaaand actually it doesn’t look that way anymore
didn’t expected Opera will publish stable version for at least a week….
I updated it yesterday to match UI

          • Herr Pietrus

            So, that’s your work. 😀

OK, I see that now it looks slightly better. But still… that blue background of highlighted entries and these icons even worse than in Opera’s bookmark manager…. And that HUGE zoom controls on the bottom!
Your extensions seems to be very good, functional an powerful when it comes to the functionality, but design still could be better. 🙂

Lack of consistency – the main problem with extensions… especially with those that try to restore the old Opera’s functionality.

So far only Quick History looks really great. Even Bookmarks by the Side are worse (that gigantic options button! )
And of course the best is Smart RSS (ok… it’s settings site could be a bit better :P)

          • Vux777

can you pls post a screenshot how does it look on your end (what is overblown)? with resolution/monitor…
            just blur private data
because, on my side (1920×1080), compared to whole UI, everything seems to be in scale….

            http://prntscr.com/7fcedf

          • Herr Pietrus

It doesn’t look different 🙂 but IMHO that elements on the bottom bar (zoom level, settings button etc.) are too big. BTW – icons on the top seems to be too close to each other and… yellow trash? 🙂 Why not red? 😛 Of course – de gustibus non diputadum est… but since you asked. 🙂 Anyway, I’m not a potential user of your extension because I won’t update my Opera until they do something with that horrible black toolbar on internal pages so… 😉

          • Vux777
  • alvin

This is a pain. I have many extension installed already. Having more extension installed may lead to unstable browsing
Moreover, today I encounter this when open opera, http://i.imgur.com/T8EhgbL.png

What’s more? No sidebar toggle as I try to find where to hide sidebar. There is short key or right click but once sidebar is hidden, no way to open it again whether there’s sidebar extension or not. To open again, I must use shortcut or click on start menu. Isn’t it inconvenient? . The wait time for a extension in sidebar to open take more time than opera 12

    • tdudziec

      Hi!
What exactly extensions do you have installed ?
which Opera language are you using ? (this is important for checking .pak issue)

      • alvin

        I use english version

    • Jeff

I agree with Alvin. I’d be much more likely to use the sidebar if there Opera produced functionality. I do some distro hopping on my laptop at home, trying different Linux editions, and every time I reinstall Opera, I have to go back through and select all of my extensions and other features. I’d also be more comfortable with extensions that were programmed by the Opera team before I used something by a major company or by an individual enthusiast/programmer because the extension may not work well with the browser, might not work as advertised, or may no longer be developed and may not function correctly in later releases of Opera.

  • András Ács

“Complain complain something developers grrr! And anyway, it’s not exactly how _I_ want grrrr! Give me my flawless, free browser on _my_ terms dammit, or else! Where is the update grrrr! You must be hiding it from us! Other browsers blabla grrr! You suck at making a browser, yet I always show up GRRRR!”

    • Jaredcheeda

If a large enough group of people critique a change similarly the feedback is likely to be listened to and a change made (Unless the feedback is given to Google, of course).

  • Gunther Malakiasz

    Hi everyone,

Is there a possibility to turn off so called “tab cycler”?
I usually use 5-10 tabs at once so i don’t need it

  • Dark Magician

Nice plug there, but your VPN privacy policy is not what you advertise.
And also, where are technical details?
While I’m on the subject, make your sync client side encrypted like Firefox.
It’s a bit of a joke to talk about privacy, if you have access to all the data.

  • man0000

I have find that if you enable the bookmark’s tree view in flags, almost all bookmarks folders disappear from view in bookmarks page.
All comes back to normal if the flag is ‘default’. Though the issue with the bookmarks in the O menu persists.

    • SuperTommy

That’s why it’s disabled by default and under development. Regarding the Bookmarks in OMenu, it’s a known issue.

  • Docteur Moreau

Thx a lot for sidebars with bookmarks and trash! You can make it better, if it will be possible – make a new folder with right-click option. And something more about switching tabs: make a checkbox about previews in preferences, pls. I don’t want to see previews cause it makes me work slower. Also, i still waiting bookmarks export to the file =) My notebook HDD’s are breaking down often. I’m sorry for mistakes in my english.

  • http://portalnay.com/ pitayon

How to use tabs the old way? Not useful this preview new feature it makes slower the working process.
I’m trying to uncheck this setting but it doesn’t work. Help appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • L33t4opera

New update – Opera stable 30.0.1835.59.

    • http://www.vece.net/ plovec

It still has the bug on the bookmarks in opera menu empty

      • L33t4opera

Yes, this is already well known issue, and AFAIK it will take some time to fix it, but it’s being worked on.

  • Dima S

I am an average user coming to this blog to see whether I can finally switch from Safari to Opera. But everytime I come, I see that ugly speed dial (which I would user very often) and comeback to Safari also because of lower appetite for resources.

  • Mon

Why now I have some annoying entries in “Recently closed” called “Window 1 – …”, “Window 2 – …” …? If I did not open new windows.
Please, I prefer the previous behavior of Recently closed tabs.

  • sbs73000
    • BK

Should be better in 4 min

    • Lacedaemon

      Same here and crash.

    • BK

      should be fixed now.

      • sbs73000

        Yep, fixed ! Thanks !

  • Paul

why did u disable ‘recently closed tabs’ ?
That was very useful, so please release it again.

    • Leonardo Gomes

You can find them in tabs menu.

  • big O

Thanks. Could you make the sidebar a little more beautiful?

  • eorrr

Could you please confirm that this catastrophic failure is being looked into: http://forums.opera.com/discussion/1865768/opera-won039t-loaddrawshow-any-page

I’d be happy to run diagnostics of your choice if I could have some pointers as to what to look for.

    • Intiroso

Same here, crash after the update.

  • Joe438

In opera:flags there is a list of changed settings and unchanged settings. Is that new in this version? If not, when did that feature get added?

  • Kari Ikonen

For some reason CTRL + TAB stopped working after upgrading from 29.x to 30.x. That kind of ruins usability.

  • Denyer

Bah. I read the headline of “View Tabs Easier” and thought they’d finally implemented left/right side tabs. Instead it’s just a dropdown menu 🙁

  • Sidney Moraes

The download page of Opera for Linux is a bit bugged, sometimes it offers the old version of Opera (12.16), not the new one.

    • Leonardo Gomes

Are you using 32 or 64 bits Linux? As there is no 32 bits Linux on stable channel, the page will offer the latrest one, which is 12.16.

      • Sidney Moraes

I had tested on Windows changing the user agent and on Ubuntu 64bits.

  • Filus

Is there any possibility to move sidebar to right side? Or I want too much?

And is it planned to add possibility to not auto close window when last tab is closed (I mean the second, the third window and so on)?

    • Leonardo Gomes

Currently it’s not possible to change the xtensions sidebar placement.

  • omg

The new switching tabs feature is a disaster.
    Don’t make unnecessary changes please, I beg you… =_=

    • Herr Pietrus

But you can click and make it as it was before! (as I understand)
Isn’t it great? 🙂 Not every time is possible in new Opera.

    • bwat47

You are being pretty vague, What about it is a disaster?

If you don’t like it switching in recently used order, you can turn that off: go to opera > preferences > and uncheck ‘Cycle tabs in most recently used order’

  • http://nwcs.com/~jvc/ Viqsi

Cycle Through Tabs used to work fine for me on my Mac (OSX 10.9.5) when it was a hidden “power user” setting. But now it takes literally 10-30 seconds or more to switch between tabs with every keypress. Please tell me this is fixable.

  • Hadley Zedras

Bookmarks are no longer accessible from the drop down menu, is the team working on a fix ?

    • Herr Pietrus

Did you really launched them from the O menu? :O
I suggest trying something good – Neater Bookamrks or Bookmarks by the Side 🙂

      • Hadley Zedras

O – Bookmarks – My Folders ; Seemed neat and tidy to me and didn’t have the intrusion of a bookmarks bar by the side top or bottom….

        • Herr Pietrus

I agree, bookmarks bar is terrible. But such extensions like Neater Bookmarks are IMHO the best – only opne click on the button and you’ve got all your bokmarks 🙂

          • Hadley Zedras

Neater Bookmarks ? Is this an extension that works directly from the mouse ? If so that is ‘Brilliant’

          • Herr Pietrus

            Mmm.. ok, i understand… I admit – it can’t be opend using the keyboard…

    • SuperTommy

      Yes, it’s being worked on.

      • Hadley Zedras

AWSOME 🙂 Happy Days 🙂 If i could suggest a right click access to bookmarks, now that’d be ‘BRILLIANT’ 🙂 🙂 🙂

  • Dmitriy

we realy need delete default search engine! think i should migrate on vivaldi -_-

    • jedy123

That’s all it takes to leave Opera for a tech preview? Opera don’t allow us to add our own default search engines but I’ve not had a problem leaving the default ones where they are. It doesn’t impact on my daily browsing. If you meant you’d like the option to fully customise your own default search engine list, I can understand the frustration, especially if your preferred one isn’t on the list.

      • Dmitriy

in russian version 6 default engine!!! i can add only 4 of my own search engine it is terrible for me. not only that, unchangeable ui, and for rss i should install exetnsion. It is not old opera, vivaldi more like old opera

    • http://www.uopera.net/ Opera Fans

That’s an important source where their profits coming from. No alternative choice when it comes to money 🙂

  • Matheus Bombonato

This is a very important request: Each sidebar extension should have it’s own width. And should be remembered after restart the browser. Or the sidebar API should allow us to manipulate this kind of property. The way it is now, it’s terrible.

    • Anonimo

      Agree.

  • antonio

please put “recently closed tabs” option back to its original behavior and position.

    • jules

for me, i miss the ‘ctrl+z’ keyboard command if you want to restore the most recent closed tab you had. ahhh, those are easier times

Tab preview is worst feature ever. For example I can’t move to next tab (Ctrl+Tab) and without release Ctrl button if I click Ctrl + W (which I do often) – wrong tab is closing 🙁 Please fix that

    • L33t4opera

Hi, please have a look here, and perhaps it will meet your expectations in this regard.

      • Piachu

Auto scrolling icons aren’t showing on screen – is it a known regression?

How to show more “recently closed” elements? How to clear that list?

Hi i think opera has some sort of bug, i am using an external server that uses ssl HTTPS connection and when i try to connect i get this net::ERR_SSL_WEAK_SERVER_EPHEMERAL_DH_KEY. which is quite odd, it connects on firefox, internet explorer, google chrome and torch browser with no problem. i am working on a game and i am exausted from programming it.. i cant even start looking for solutions to this because i have no admin control over the server and i cannot elongate the size of DH_KEY, that is why i am here. i need to connect to this server to do some important stuff within the game… pls is there a fix? thanks.

      Probably related to this?

      • stackCrawler

        Yh, thanks.

So, when they switched to webkit engine, they moved the recently closed tabs from the top-left corner into the menu. Now, 15 versions later, when everyone got used to the new arrangement, they moved it back. Questionable.

    • Leonardo Gomes

They were gone about two years ago with the advent of Opera Blink.

There seem to be extensions that allows you to change that, like Classic Tabs.

opera tab previews sucks.. how to disable it

I like the new Opera design and also the rendering engine. However i would like to move the sidebar to the right. It would put much less strain on the wrist. Right now, with the sidebar in the left i have to move to the left to click it, then go back to the right edge of the screen and scroll a page.

The situation gets even worse, when i have addons which display tabs in the sidebar (i need that cause page titles are unreadable in top view when i have more than 10 tabs open). I noticed that working with Opera puts a lot more stress on my wrist than other browsers cause i can’t move the vertical tabs to the same side as the scrollbar.

Agree with you, that helps extensions visually do not distract when it does not needed

I understand the need to switch to a webkit based rendering engine, but in that process, there has been a lot of features lost that the previous versions of Opera (before 12) had. One of which is the Right Click+Scroll to view all open tabs in a list and scroll through without shifting focus from the current tab and without blocking the view.
There are so many such life saving features that Opera had before the switch.
    1. Opera link (used to sync everything, not just bookmarks and open tabs)
    2. Notes – This was a life saver. Right click –> Copy to note was one NIFTY feature
    3. Opera web server
    4. Opera Media server
    5. The whole sidebar with all the features in it.
    6. Ability to open the browser with no open tabs
    7. Minimising the sidebar and expanding when needed
    and so much more.

And all this was fit on to an installer that never exceeded 3.4MB. Nowadays the installer easily ends up being 10s of MBs. Sigh.
Sometimes the move forward is actually a step backward.
I was an Opera fanboy, but now, not so much.
Hope you guys bring back the features that we loved with Presto.
