The weather in Oslo is pretty disappointing at the moment. There is so much ice that one of my colleagues took two hours to get home last night (a journey that usually takes 35 minutes) and another got stranded near the office because she feared walking further would result in her breaking a leg. For my own part, I had to take the bus this morning, rather than enjoy a nice unicycle commute.

We need cheering up and what better way to do so, than to put out a 28 developer build to gather some positive feedback!

Today’s build includes an upgraded Chromium (41.0.2251.0), some bookmark improvements, more “vibrancy” effects for our MacOS 10.10 (Yosemite) users and a selection of updated bundled themes.

Bookmark improvements

Suggestions have been enabled in Address Bar drop-down, making it even easier to locate a page your have bookmarked previously. We have also improved the interaction when dragging between the bookmarks bar and bookmarks manager. Perhaps best of all we have added the frequently requested “Remove” button to the bookmark popup.

However, before you get too excited about that last one, I should mention that it is not quite ready yet. Currently when you click it, the first time it moves the item to the trash but the heart icon does not update. Clicking “Remove” again actually deletes the bookmark and the icon then updates. Don’t worry, we will fix it!

We also added “vibrancy” to the bookmark popup, for users of MacOS 10.10 (Yosemite).

sync-menu

Sync connection issues

We are continuing to work on sync, in both the browser and our sync servers. We noticed a few people having issues connecting to the us.sync.opera.com. Don’t worry we’re aware and are looking into it!

On the positive side, as with the bookmark popup, the sync menu also gained “vibrancy” support on MacOS 10.10.

New bundled themes

It felt like a good time to update the bundled themes, so that you can have a fresh, new look for your start page. We hope you like them!

Known issues

  • For some users the folder selection in the bookmark popup is empty
  • Using the “Remove” button in the bookmark popup does not update the heart icon
  • Sync is not working for people connecting via us.sync.opera.com

    • You can fix this by running this build with –sync-url=https://sync2.opera.com/api/sync btw. But do so only after reporting to us, please.

      • Cyro

I know it’s known, but he asked for feedback to those who are unable to sync. That’s my case. lol

      • I know this will make it work but I didn’t mention it (yet) for a reason. 😉

        • You didn’t mention what? Don’t know what you’re talking about Ruarí 😛

          • I din’t mention the –sync-url workaround up front because I want people to report the IP address they connect to when they see the issue. If I started with a work around I worried that some might just use it and never report their issue. I had intended to add the work around later.

          • Guess I forgot about adding that *sarcasm* marker… 😉

    • what is your IP address? (http://www.whatismyip.com)

      • Cyro

        187.57.133.245

        • Thanks! Though actually I did not need you to write that as I can view it from your comment.

      • No need to ask for this. As a moderator of the comments I can see his public IP address. Therefore I only asked for the IP address of sync when he connects to it.

    • some changes have been made on the server. It should be working now. Let me know if it isn’t.

  • Zik

Finally “Remove” button! Finally notificaition of sound! Thank you for update. Cant to wait 28 for beta.

    • Yeah, and animation is pretty cool IMHO 🙂

      • SuperTommy

Do you have an example where I can test it? Doesn’t seem to work here.

        • You would need to enable the flag. Additionally the flag is currently only available on Windows and Linux. I did not announce it because it is not ready yet.

We announce features after we enable a flag on developer and when we want people to start testing them. You can enable them early but then there are zero guarantees.

In this case we will are unlikely to enable it before there is some Mac support.

          • SuperTommy

Thanks, for some reason I didn’t think about it as a flag … Got it now!

          • All new features start behind flags. So it is the first place to look if people are talking about a feature you cannot see.

          • SuperTommy

I know, but today I thought about it in the same way as the remove button in bookmarks pop-up. 🙂 I’ll get more coffee.

          • I know how you feel! ^^

          • SuperTommy

It’s friday, the brain is exhausted …

          • Probably an information on flags page to see what flags are new would be nice…to find them easily…

          • Well, flags may get added before there’s an actual implementation so naming/enabling it doesn’t add any value.
And where’s the fun without treasure hunting? 😉

        • You need to enable opera://flags/#tab-audio-indicator 😉

          • SuperTommy

            Thanks, got it!

  • siamak

Still Sync not working for me!

    • RTFM (or blog post in this case) 😛

      • No you read it! 😛 Here is the relevant part:

We noticed a few people having issues connecting to the sync server of late. If you are one of those people, please comment below and let us know so we can see how widespread the issue is.

I specifically asked people to report this so we could see how common it is.

        • Not my day. I’m gonna grab another cup of coffee and shut up until my mind is awake enough to actually be helpful. Sorry O:)

Yeah, its working :). Thanks for the reply Ruarí!

        • Thanks to you for the help narrowing down where the issue lay.

  • Johan Tell

This is probably not the correct place to post this as it is more of a minor issue coming from blink/chromium.

When focusing an input with a value by using tab the value in the input automatically gets selected. But when using the autofocus attribute the cursor is placed at index 0 and the text isn’t selected.

Since this probably is the wrong place to post this maybe someone can help me find the right place? I’d like to contribute! 😛

  • serendipity1002

My IP is 107.167.110.245, sync is unfortunately not working properly

  • TDKA

Well, i guess next month i going to 2 years without using Opera, so lame, i just want my old badass Opera back. #RIP12/02/13

    • Davide Repetto

Lol! I’m still using it (Opera 12, that is,) and it’s still mostly working. 🙂
The new opera is slowly coming along to the point that now I’m able to use it as my go-to browser for those (very) few sites where Opera 12 doesn’t cut it, but until bookmarks become really usable, for me it will be relegated to this very secondary role. … I’m an heavy bookmarks user…
Meanwhile I’m getting friendly with Midori, which is the closest, mostly working, but not enough yet, Opera 12 kinfda-sorta-alike browser.
If only it had an option to move the address bar inside the tabs… 😉

  • serendipity1002

Two thing that is currently unavailable in Opera that sometimes makes me miss Chrome is 1. interaction (i.e. drag and drop) from downloads callout box; 2. drag and drop to any tab even when it’s in background (for example, the tab A is currently visible but the tab I want to drag the file to is tab B, I want to drag directly to the tabs and Opera will switch automatically to tab B without me having to manually click on tab B)

  • x a

For me since last dev-build the mouse ends up in selection mode after using ”back“ rocker-gesture. [Win8.1/Wow64] Confirmation?

    • Marcin Mitek

Seems fine here, any particular websites where you notice that? Installed extensions that may affect this?

      • x a

While I have extensions installed, this didn’t start with installing a new one – but nonetheless an updated extension could cause the issue; will do further investigation.

As of now, any page will do it (even if tab’s history is empty). The exact button sequence is R.press L.press R.release L.release. [Logitech M705 wireless mouse]

        • Marcin Mitek

Not easy to reproduce but I managed, somehow. I release the buttons almost in the same time, and then it works. With your steps it is reproducible. Thank you.

  • Vux777

How come Opera is not affected with this or this chromium bug? (it’s about chrome.windows API)

Whatever you did, pls contribute to chromium ツ

    • chrome.windows API events are generated by the UI. As Opera doesn’t use Chromium’s UI layer, but its own native one, it’s not affected by its bugs.
This means in turn there’s nothing to upstream. Chromium team needs to fix this by themselves 😉

      • But wait, aren’t we just a clone? I’m sure people have told me that before! 😛

        • Yeah, I remember having read that, too. Well, I guess my explanation is nothing more than a conspiracy theory then O:)

        • Vux777

yea, hipsters, glow for now 🙂

    • Leonardo Gomes

Do you have opera://flags/#favorites-bookmark-backend enabled by chance?

  • rabe85

The heart popup is a little bit empty for the most pages i open from the speed dial.
    http://www.qpic.ws/images/opkgk.jpg
It works from the bookmarks page 🙂
There is a new text “Bookmark added 3815 ago”. I would add a “days” behind the number 😛

    • The “3815 ago” part is already fixed internally 😉

      • rabe85

        Thats good 🙂

The corners of that popup are also gone (or just white).

  • So, initially at least, it looks like all the people reporting the Sync problems are connecting to the same US sync server.

I have updated the blog post as I don’t think we need any further reports.

    • Thanks to all of you who helped investigating this issue! 🙂

    • Vux777

      …what?
you didn’t give a god password to those “three-letter agencies”, so they have to crack it manually?

      • Marcin Mitek

We work closely with LOL and OMG agencies. Around the world.

        • ayespy

You need to improve your cooperation, then, with WTH and WTF agencies, as well as BFF and BRB.

    • wolkenspalter

Are all of your Sync servers located in in US?

      • No, which is why it works for many people.

        • wolkenspalter

All in all you are rather quiet about your server infrastructure, which makes me distrustful. I remember “Opera controlled server”, now some of them are in the USA…
As a german user using an european product I nowadays want to know where my data is stored. Otherwise I dont need no password sync…

      • beBoss

So there are servers in USA? Lol, then don’t sync your staff, USA is spying!!!

  • Sidney Moraes

Is there any plan to put smooth animations in navigation bar?

    • Lacedaemon

All we know is that they ‘ve promised that in the past. Although I don’t find any use of it to be honest if it is not always on top (at the bottom) as a transparent overlay.

  • edkowalachuk

Opera developer hasn’t been able to handle Yahoo tech (it’s fine on Firefox). pretty useless on that site, in fact, at least for me. Also, the newest version just knocked out my background picture on speed dial.

  • Daniel Constantin Anghel

i noticed that you have inverted the colors for bookmarks
can you please switch the old colors back?

  • Deus Ex Vino

Feels like you follow in footsteps of Windows 8. Which hopefully means there will be unexpected major improvement this year.

  • Deus Ex Vino

By the way – how are we supposed to handle web-site-RSS feeds? I always sue Opera(12) as Portable so i dont have to care about complex backup if i reset my system – but how do i teach Thunderbird to open links in RSS posts in Opera Portable without setting it to default browser?

  • Petar Pavlov

I am able to log into the Sync but it does not sync the Speed Dial

    • You need to enable opera://flags/#favorites-bookmark-backend for speed dial to get synced. Be careful though. This experiment really bites for some users. It deleted my speed dial multiple times. So be sure to have a backup if you wanna try it.

      • Petar Pavlov

        Tried
The good new it did not delete my speed dial
Bad news it did not sync either 🙂

        • Leonardo Gomes

Afaik sync only syncs bookmarks atm. If you enable the mentioned flag, your SD entries will be on a folder in the bookmark’s manager and will be sync as part of the bookmarks.

Note that both install will need to have the flag enabled and be one of developer 28 latest builds.

  • export bookmarks as html file should be added.

  • Mike Anthony

Great changes 🙂 One thing that I think should be done is the provision of an option to move the opera button from the top left to the top right, but at the end of the main toolbar. I can see various reasons why you wouldn’t want to, but it wouldn’t be on by default. Think it’s a possibility?

    • Windows’ native controls are at the far right. So there’s no way of putting anything like a menu there.

  • Lacedaemon

Why should I need a Navigation Bar when I can just add opera://bookmarks as a Speed Dial entry? I can put it where I want, it has a wonderful blue heart, it looks slicker and it doesn’t mess with my Windows’ taskbar. I need to be able to disable it completely.

For those that want to return to SD without using a new tab and that not aware of the small SD icon next to the Reload icon, you can just add an entry in the Bookmark Manager to show the Speed Dial (Return to Speed Dial, an icon, whatever) and done.

And what’s the point of the Nav Bar really, to be able to move from Discovery to Bookmarks and to a blank SD? Who really does that? At least if it was permanently on with a transparent overlay I could visit my bookmarks while I was browsing. That would make sense.

    • > At least if it was permanently on with a transparent overlay I could visit my bookmarks while I was browsing. That would make sense.

      That would be incredibly annoying.

      • Lacedaemon

You never know until you try it 🙂 Besides it would be more useful.

        • I already tried it. Several websites use that technique, which I find annoying to no end. Also, Opera’s own PDF viewer (which you had mentioned in the original version of your reply, if my email notifications don’t lie) has something like that, and it’s very annoying as well.

          • Lacedaemon

yes I was trying to give an example with PDF viewer but it’s not the best since its icons are too intrusive to the document because they are pretty high, I think this one with the transparent wide stripe and being so down low would not be that annoying and I repeat it would make sense instead of being useless and purely cosmetic and annoying with one taskbar over another as it is now.

          • In all fairness, all this argument happens because the devs are strangely set in NOT taking advantage of today’s prevalence of wide monitors and giving us a sidebar. The proper place for all those things would be at the left side of the screen, not over the rendered page or below the Speed Dial.

  • NoName

For those using “Advanced Keyboard Shortcuts”.
I have created an extension which fixes the issues that it currently has.

    Link: https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/advanced-keyboard-shortcuts-fix/

    • Ralf Brinkmann

I don’t know if I understood you correctly. I think, my problem is different:

I do a Google standard search. After pressing ENTER I see the search results. The focus is not in the search field. Now I want to change the tab by pressing “1” or “2”. But instead of changing to the next tab, the focus is back in the search field and the numeral is inserted as an extension of the search term. In this case your extension doesn’t help. Right?

      • NoName

        This is intentional (By Google).
You can disable it, if you are logged in on google.com. “Google instant” should be disabled.

But this has nothing to do with the bug.

  • Zik

Shortcut for Task Manager is still needed.

    • Lacedaemon

      Shift+Esc please!

Also, native shortcut for CloneTab, not requiring Javascript and 16MB of memory.

(Why we need to have Ctrl+E, Ctrl+L, Alt+D and F8 for doing the same task and not a shortcut for CloneTab truly amazes me.)

  • Zin

Please, bring back embedded IRC like on Opera 12 so i can do a try to see if IRC and Bookmarks system are good and finally stop bothering you about it.

    • senna_4ever

      I think it hard
      i am waiting for a extension…

  • dflyra

I don’t understand the aesthetics or the functionality of the new start page (that is the speed-dial page). It’s a step backwards compared to the Opera stable. The tile contents although bigger are indistinguishable compared to the favicons, the tile titles unimaginative taking up space as opposed to the pop-up titles of the stable version, the titles background color is a dull white & the speed-dial/ bookmarks/ discover bar at the bottom is space-consuming compared to the side-bar which is more suitable to wide screen monitors. I hope you will not employ those aesthetics to the stable version, or at least you will let us choose which is more suitable to our tastes. As for the bookmarks, although constantly improving, they still need polishing: I believe in a nested tree-like folders, since as it is now, I need several mouse strokes to move a bookmark exactly where I want it.
Having said those, I admit that Opera looks and feels ‘different’ from other browsers although utilizing Chromium. I really enjoy browsing these days (what a nightmare was Opera 15!).

  • Lacedaemon

Images used for themes are producing blinking (new SD tabs) if they are not of the same resolution of the monitor (in my case 1680×1050) This happens for a long time in any stream. A renderer performance issue?

Also thx for fixing the blinking issue with the background tabs.

  • Nekomajin43

    Another nice build. Thanks!

On Vista opera uses the XP-like windows decoration…

    • I confirm this. Needs fixing.

Will the speeddial/bookmarks/discover page ever work without flickering? It’s very annoying

  • MarinK

Ok, after this upgrade I’ve just lost more than 60 speed dial entries.
Any chance I can get those back? I have some really important (to me at least) there!

    …..

Anyone from Opera? Is there a way to return my speed dials? :S

    • Lacedaemon

are you sure opera://flags/#favorites-bookmark-backend is disabled?

      • MarinK

        Yup, it’s disabled.

    • MarinK

And yeah… Lost all my opened tabs, even pinned ones. Nothing in history, extensions page is without icons, extensions arent even showing up in toolbar.

Getting from rally bad to a disaster.

      • That sounds like sth. got seriously wrong. Maybe you should try recovering your stuff in a new clean install.

        • MarinK

Tried it. Got my bookmarks back, but not speed dials 🙁
Guess I’m gonna go for time machine backup.

    • I know how you feel. speed dial’s bookmarks backend also wiped my speed dials. I was lucky having a fresh backup.
You can have a look at your profile folder. Opera sometimes creates backup files itself (named .bak or .dbak). Try restoring those. Maybe you’re lucky.

  • enuire

    Bookmark manager:

    1) Dragging from the button up to select multiple bookmarks doesn’t work – it immediately deselects them after letting go of the the mouse button

    2) it misses one thing – shift select(select from to) useful on large lists.

    • Thanks for your report.

  • taneli

    Is this a Flash bug?
I got Plug-in: Shockwave Flash eating up memory, it just increases slowly all the time, when it’s at 4gig mark, Opera will just die, need to force shut it and restart.
Only thing using Flash (possibly) i have open is Facebook, using HTML5 on youtube now that it seems to work in this build (nice).
But this is a bit worrying that i still need to force-shutdown opera when Flash eats up that 4gigs of memory (using the Opera Taskmanager to check the memory consumption).
And that’d be PPAPI Flash 16.0.0.280.
It won’t even release the memory when closing a tab with Flash content, just keeps it in and keeps piling up.

    • Ralf Brinkmann

Have you tried the stable version of PPAPI?

      • taneli

I have not, seems to be a sh**ton of a hustle with them when trying to use multiple versions simultaneously, (CBA setting up a virtual drive just to try this :>) but the same has been with several versions of Beta Flash now, (since .230-something through to .280).

        • Ralf Brinkmann

I remember that some people had problems with beta versions in the past, including me. With the stable versions the problems were gone.

  • RX-3200

please fix notifies-api in order to extension “extensions-update-notifie” could start work in Opera ..
    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/extensions-update-notifie/nlldbplhbaopldicmcoogopmkonpebjm

    • There’s nothing to fix. It’s a design decision. Opera uses native notifications (which is great, cause e.g. they get silenced when I don’t wanna get disturbed and set it globally for Windows). However, these do not offer to include any buttons and thus Opera can’t support this part of chrome.notifications API. If the extension provided non-button fallbacks, it would work just fine. Maybe you can ask the extension’s author for a setting to only show “simple” notifications.

      • RX-3200

        You contradict yourself
you say that “there is nothing to fix” and at the same time “API are missing piece”
there’s either one or the other, because in fact the extension does not show anything
so fix is: “adding support this part of chrome.notifications API” or “implement this extension functionality inside the Opera”
because authors will not alter their extensions due to only one Opera, in the presence of chromium & other chromium-clones in which these extensions nominally work

        • Either you didn’t get me or you don’t want to get it: There’s nothing broken so it can’t be fixed. This part of notifications API is simply not supported in Opera.
You can request its support, but as I said, it’s a (IMO good) design decision and thus unlikely to get changed.

          • RX-3200

well, maybe it’s a different approach to the problem …

so, let this be a “request”

  • saudiqbal

Now its time to fix the address bar, please disable the inline auto complete of URLs it is really annoying, i cant even type. Also bring back the drop down button in address bar, I open lot of typed urls, I develop websites and go back and forth between urls, even I have seen many people using dropdown feature. Dont make it like Chrome.

    • taneli

As a webdev, do keep the auto complete of URL’s, i know how to use several tabs and several browsers for devving.

    • Ralf Brinkmann

      Do you mean
opera://settings/ – User Interface – View full URL of the combined search and address bar
      ?

  • Вадік Дудар

Please, add passwords sync. Really miss this feature.

    • SuperTommy

Extensions, settings and themes as well.

    • beBoss

With this speed of adding features and “fixing” bugs, password sync would be implemented after 20 builds.

    • vidajuridica

Please add too Speed Dials Sync.

  • oic

is it just me, but webpages load slower than normal in this version

  • mb

Yay all my customs search engines got deleted after updating. Also, are you getting some under the table money from Google to remove Bing? Can’t think of any other reason why you would remove it.

    • Leonardo Gomes

Hmm, my custom searches are still there.

  • Hecc-MA

Expect nothing from the weather and you’ll never be disappointed.

  • Patata

“The weather in Oslo is pretty disappointing at the moment”

Just like your Opera Dev releases 😉
New Wallpapers (I’ll never call them Themes)? Really? You are kidding, right?

    • hafasd

That’s the very stupid idea to call something like that “the theme”.

  • Hecc-MA

Open Desktop Team main page, read “visual updates”, get exited, open the link…
    NEW THEMES!!!

    You’re a joke!!

This browser became broing for the sake of it.

  • SuperTommy

There’s some problems selecting bookmarks using the cursor to mark them, until you resize the browser window. See .gif for illustration.

    http://i.imgur.com/MeiErB8.gif

    • Lacedaemon

Bookmark selecting does not work right in general. You see them being marked but if you let the left mouse click the tick is gone. I think Thorben already knows though so it’s just a matter of time 🙂

    • L33t4opera

Hi, right click on the free space around the bookmarks items, and select “Select All” from the context menu, or just press Ctrl+A, to select all items in the folder.

Alternatively, you can move the mouse above the first top item, hold down left mouse, and drag the mouse down, or move the mouse to the left of the first item, hold down left button, and drag the mouse a bit to the right, and then down.
The problem with selecting multiple items from the bottom has already appeared in several versions prior to this build.

By the way: it’s nice to see, that the Copy option in the context menu, the Delete key, and DnD of the items from the main area to the side menu’s folders work nice in this build 😉

      • Lacedaemon

The problem with selecting multiple items from the bottom has already appeared in several versions prior to this build.

Not only from the bottom but from the side as well, when doing that in thumbnail form.

    • ahoj1234

      confirmed under W8.1…
it has been driving me off ever since I tried to sort bookmarks…

  • SLR

Is there a way to move the nav bar back to the side?

    • Sidney Moraes

      Disable it in opera:flags.

      • SLR

That restores the old one 🙁 I kind of liked it when it was on the side. Oh well

        • Sidney Moraes

That is not what you want? Disable navigation bar in flags, not experimental start page.

          • Leonardo Gomes

The navigation bar on the side no longer exists.

          • Sidney Moraes

It does not exists but it is possible to restore the old view of speed dial at the top.

          • Leonardo Gomes

Yes, but it’s the object of the discussion. 🙂

    • Leonardo Gomes

      Nope.

  • PaulW

As this release seems to be about bookmarks can someone pleaze tell me how to import to the main bookmark folder my “Imported from Opera) bookmarks and then how to sort them in apha / numeric order..
Thanx in advance. A bookmark system like O12 would be nice..

    • L33t4opera

Hi, navigate to the “Imported” folder, and press Ctrl+A (or right click on the free space and select “Select All” from the context menu), and then drag them to the “My Folders” folder in the side menu. Open O-Menu>Bookmarks, right click on “My Folders”, and select “Sort Alphabetically” from the context menu 😉

      • PaulW

Thanx for that. I’ve gotten the imported bookmark into the “My Folders” area and can see them OK but when I right click on “My Folders” I don’t see the Context Menu. Using Opera 28.0.1747.0

        • Lacedaemon

He means to then leave the Bookmark Manager, go to the Opera menu on the top left and do it from there.

        • L33t4opera

Are you pretty sure, that you clicked on “My Folders” in the Opera menu > Bookmarks, and not on “My Folders” in the side menu in the Bookmarks Manager?

          • PaulW

Thanks for that pointer. I was in the wrong area. All sorted now

  • Marcos Previato

TAB STACKING PLEASE FOR OPERA BEST!

    • Marc

Yes! This is such a useful feature! I requested this a few times as well.

    • ahoj1234

I was asking for that for a very long time too but since I just figured out that I have only 4GB RAM and my PC is just not handling 10+ opened tabs even with tab hibernation ON I’m not sure if it can be useful as much as it was.

(the problem is that tabs are awaking from hibernation too slow… sometimes it seems like a minute is not enough and I’m trying ctrl+F5 and other magic stuffs to load it and the best solution is mostly to restart Opera…)

      • vidajuridica

Yeah Tab Stacking of Old Opera is Amazing and very light!

    • definitely most requested feature for opera. i don’t know why opera team don’t want to listen these requests.

      • Lacedaemon

        while others advertise it…

        Windows 10’s new browser:

“Other features include a new way to group tabs together to declutter the occasionally messy interface of multiple browser tabs. Spartan will allow users to group tabs however they want, making it easier, for example, to split up personal tabs from work ones. “

        http://www.theverge.com/2015/1/8/7516489/windows-10-new-browser-spartan-features

        • vidajuridica

As Opera user was already saddened by the total change of the browser, like the pure version of Opera and not using this as a basis the chromium but ok, I remain a fan of Opera, which makes me sad is take the essences resources thus losing their essentially, please introduce the Tab Stacking right back!

  • MarinK

    Gonna try again….

Ok, after this upgrade I’ve just lost more than 60 speed dial entries.
Any chance I can get those back? I have some really important (to me at least) there!

And yeah… Lost all my opened tabs, even pinned ones. Nothing in history, extensions page is without icons, extensions arent even showing up in toolbar.

I really need my speed dials back 🙁

    • Leonardo Gomes

which build were you using before the update?

      • MarinK

        28.0.1738

        • Leonardo Gomes

And both were installed the same way (for all users, standalone, etc)? If standalone, they were installed in the same folder?

          • MarinK

Both? I’m using just Opera Developer, I don’t have beta or stable build installed at all. I’m on OSX Yosemite, 10.10.2

          • Leonardo Gomes

            Yep, both builds.

I’m on Windows here and don’t remember have lost all my data this way. Maybe an issue on Mac builds.

  • Leonardo Gomes

    Some new flags:

    Tab audio indicator
    Windows, Linux
If enabled, audio indicator is shown on tabs with active audio playback.
    #tab-audio-indicator

    Enable win32k renderer lockdown
    Windows
Enables the win32k renderer lockdown, which is only available on Windows 8 and above.
    #enable-win32k-renderer-lockdown

(Note: this one may cause Opera to stop working)

    Disable latest stable JavaScript features
    Mac, Windows, Linux
    disabled
Some web pages use legacy or non-standard JavaScript extensions that may conflict with the latest JavaScript features. This flag disables support of those features for compatibility with such pages.
    #disable-javascript-harmony-shipping

    Trash folder for bookmarks
    Mac, Windows, Linux
Enables a trash folder for bookmarks with new delete bookmark behavior
    #bookmarks-trash-folder

    • Muhammad Ubaid Raza

“Enable win32k renderer lockdown” is meant for 64bit version only, that is why it will cause Opera to stop working.

I guess this hint upcoming 64bit release? :p

      • Ooooh, another conspiracy theory ^^
A lot of the flags are actually inherited from Chromium though and may or may not make sense in Opera at all, like #enable-message-center-always-scroll-up-upon-notification-removal
So this isn’t really an indicator for possible work on a 64-bit Opera version.

      • Leonardo Gomes

Or probably just a Chromium flag.

    • senna_4ever

      “#tab-audio-indicator”

      EPIC WIN OPERA!

  • helsten2

Hmm, is it just me or is opening and closing of tabs getting slower and slower for every version?

  • Please, return us ability to choose any folder to store bookmark in.
    http://hsto.org/files/b3c/408/241/b3c4082417ee4756a392614229da7e2d.png

I have almost 20 folders in my bookmarks. But I can choose only 7 from dropdown list in the “heart icon” popup.

Of course I can go to the bookmarks and drag&drop each bookmark manually. But it takes a lot more time then needed. Almost each bookmark now takes more clicks than earlier.

// Sorry for repost. I chosen incorrect thread to post in earlier.

    • Der Herr Nick

Oh yes, please! This one’s really enervating.

    • L33t4opera

Hi, in the meantime, before this feature will probably be implemented, you can bring back the old dropdown list of the folders in the Heart menu – go to opera:flags#improved-bookmark-popup, select “Disabled” from the dropdown, and restart the Opera.

  • Server gurus have done some unknown magic voodoo stuff.
Would those guys who ran into trouble syncing with the US server yesterday mind rechecking if it works now? 🙂

  • Gloriam

I’d like to report a bug on Opera Next and possibly the other versions too, when I’m using two monitors, I’d like to watch youtube or other flash players on one monitor (Main one since it’s bigger) and browse on the other, only problem is that the taskbar shows up below as soon as I click on anything outside the youtube/flash player. But if I switch it around, that doesn’t happen, only when the player is on the main monitor.

I don’t have this issue with other browsers, but I don’t want to use multiple browsers as you can understand.

    Could this be looked into?

  • emsa

I still can’t open the bookmarks at opera://bookmarks/
    What’s wrong here?

    http://www.tiikoni.com/tis/view/?id=a0f743f

    This webpage is not available

The webpage at opera://bookmarks/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

    • Which version of Opera is that? Which version did this issue start for you?
Maybe something got cached faulty during development of bookmarks. Try reloading the page by pressing Ctrl+F5 to bypass any saved cache entries.

      • emsa

        Thanks for your reply!
I’m using this version 28.0.1745.0 on Arch 64.
I think it started with 28.0.1719.0

Reloading the page with Ctrl+F5 still doesn’t load the bookmarks.
Also cleanin the whole browsing data doesn’t solve it.
It only shows the bookmark entrys in the address bar.
Do you have a solution for this?

  • aaa839

Will you guys also release a native 64bit support link chrome DEV in future?

  • Charles0815

The new themes (wallpapers) are ugly. Bring back the old themes, please.

  • Jademarisa

Are you developing or at least allowing SKINS? Not “themes”, that Chrome travesty of customisation

about links in password manager or
about links to opera://* in web pages ?

  • Milad Ebadi

good update but dont need “bookmarked popup window” for bookmarked on bookmarkbar ( for drag and drop)

  • Dmitry Kirin

Thanks for the choice of bookmark folders under the heart menu. Now that the sorting of bookmarks by folders is a reality, it would be cool to have a similar drop-down list right in the bookmark manager, like the item select and delete buttons. Could save time sorting the items already added.

And BTW, I found a bug: If I delete all predefined bookmark folders and empty the BM trash, the drop-down list is never populated. Even if I create some custom folders. Actually, that’s what I did in the first place. Couldn’t figure out why the sorting wouldn’t work for me. Ended up creating an empty Bookmarks file, using Sync to get the “stash” items, and injected the BM bar root folder manually, in a text editor. It probably wasn’t the best way to do it, but it worked.

    • Known issues
For some users the folder selection in the bookmark popup is empty

      • Dmitry Kirin

Thanks, Christoph. Now I know the cause of that.

  • Cristi

Hello. I have Opera 28.0.1745.0 and it has become UNUSABLE after this last update or two (the one where the find was broken was ok otherwise). It has an old problem with session.dbak beeing written to every 2-3 seconds and creating huge IO spikes on my SSD. Disk Activity Monitor in Windows shows 0MB/s then10-16 MB/s with System accessing the session.dbak file, opera the session.db file and the db-journal. I can’t do anything without the browser freezing for 2-3 sec or showing up Opera is not responding. Writing this comment took AGES. I have Kaspersky IS 2013 as info on a i7 i920 with 24 GB RAM, Intel 510 256 GB SSD and GTX680. Going back to IE for the time. Saaaad. Real saaad. Please check it out.

    • Dmitry Kirin

The session files are written to approximately every 10 s, it’s normal and usually not much painful, especially on SSD. What you describe looks like session.db* have grown too big, like, >10 MB. I suggest deleting them (though open tabs will be lost) or compacting them using the SQLite3 utility.

      • Cristi

They are 150MB. I usually have around 50 Tabs open in the session. The strange thing is that even the Opera Stable Version is affected and runs like crap now. I did try renaming the old file to have as backup and start with a new session. It works now. So thank you for the tip. I still think there is a bug or not a good logic for heavy users with lots of tabs open regarding the Management of these files. Why not change the files dinamically on the fly after a change is made (a new tab with a new completed address, closing an old tab) instead of a timed fix value?

        • Dmitry Kirin

          150 MB is just… wow. 8-
If I remember correctly, some optimisation has already been done on session writing, though maybe not enough to deal with 150MB writes. I haven’t noticed that much, because by that time, I’ve moved those files to a RAM disk, to save the SSD, along with the browser cache, and also added a scheduled task to compact the session databases every few hours (like, sqlite3 session.db "VACUUM;").

          • Cristi

Ok….so I need a RAM disk for browsing on the Internet. That sucks. Flawed logic. I have to make a scheduled task for compacting a database I shouldn’t even know about. Bad also. What exactly is stored in that DB? All opened tabs, bookmarks and whatever else…even if I make a simple txt file with them it should not reach a 150 MB size for 50 tabs per session. Ignoring the size…what is being written so much that it makes such a huge IO load? Anyway I take it, the only answer that I can find is that there is a bug and the DB gets corrupted or the algorithm is flawed. It should be rechecked. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for the answer though. I appreciate your effort and the time taken.

    • tdudziec

could you diasable #startup-improvements flag to see if it helps for you ?

  • taneli

HTML5 player on Youtube seems to be working quite properly now… one minor hitch with it… not sure what happened with it, probably just a youtube thing… good, good, Flash isn’t leaking memory, good, good…
Still some small slowdowns when browsing lots of images (imgur.com), not as severe as it used to be, good, hopefully a bit more work with that.
Overall a pretty good build, that fixed a lot of things previously wrong, niceeee.
    Thanks!
Now just get them SD and Bookmarks sorted and move onto other stuffs, like, Download control, more control over Search engines, etc. etc. :>

  • Lacedaemon

Hardware acceleration doesn’t seem to perform well. Testing with https://developer.mozilla.org/media/uploads/demos/p/a/paulrouget/8bfba7f0b6c62d877a2b82dd5e10931e/hacksmozillaorg-achi_1334270447_demo_package/HWACCEL/ it does not even reach 30fps (Stable runs with 60+).

    • On Windows 7 x64 with current 28.0.1745.0 and fresh Opera profile the test shows: 60+ fps.

      • Guest

        .

    • Ralf Brinkmann

      Here also 60+ like GwenDragon.

    • What was the problem slowing down? May be interesting for others. 😉

      • Lacedaemon

There is nothing wrong on the browser’s side.

  • Greg

Regarding sync – does it work for Speed Dial now?? I used to have my speed dial synced but now I cannot make it work on new installations??

  • shane

Thanks for fixing the horizontal scrolling that was sending keyboard events with a touchpad. Not sure what was fixed, but it seems to be finally working properly again.

  • ahoj1234

    can’t load/open this page:
    http://www.creed.com/

it works in FF and so do in Chrome.
W8.1 x64 with this build (and a few flags/extension ON).
    confirmation on this?

(in console I can see something like “http://www.creed.com/_js/swfaddress.js Failed to load resource: net::ERR_BLOCKED_BY_CLIENT” and some other failures… )

    • Loads fine in 28 DEV on Windows 7×64.

You block something with Adblocker or other extension or security sowftware?

      • ahoj1234

indeed. it’s the AdBlock… so I will report it to them… thanks for your reply (that gave me impulse to check some extensions)

        • Ralf Brinkmann

I can load the page WITH Adblock enabled. No problems. Maybe you use the wrong lists? You should ohnly use Easylist, Antisocial Filterlist, Easy Privacy, Fanboy’s Annoyances and a list for you own language and Antiadblock-Filterlist, if you like. Not the Adblock standard filter.

          • ahoj1234

The true is that I’m using the standard filters… But it’s caused by a filter called “Malware Domains”.
I reported it (hopefully properly) to AdBlock to fix it (since it’s caused by standard filters)

So yes, if I turn off this filter and other filters are still ON I can load the page as well 🙂

  • @Opera_Devs
Please add Chromiums policy settings (Windows, Linux, Mac) to Opera 26 and newer. See http://dev.chromium.org/administrators/policy-list-3

For example disabling Private/Incognito mode would be useful.

  • Loving the “vibrancy” on Yosemite! Do you have any plans on adding the translucency effect to the browser window itself? So in addition to a Theme picture, users would have an option to just have a translucent background in Speed Dial & other internal pages?

  • SuperTommy

If you use ‘find in page’ in a PDF file, the counter doesn’t increase when finding the next word or character. It says 1/x all the time.

    • Confirmed. Win 8.1

    • plague

While we’re discussing bugs with PDF files, maybe someone could finally have a look at the over 2 years old Chromium bug that prevents any browser using Chromiums PDF Viewer from saving a PDF locally, that has been requested with HTML POST:
      https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=154786
      https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=224520

As a web-application developer that has to use HTML POST for requesting and generating a PDF in certain circumstances, this is very very annoying and I hope someone involved with Chromium can finally fix it, as Google obviously won’t do it.

password save, and also the ability to be able to make our own keyboard shortcuts again.

like in opera 9.1 to 15.0

im still using opera 12.16, had newer versions of opera, but didnt like anything enough to give up my keyboard shortcuts

    • Luap

Yeah, know what you mean. I use 1 website extensively and as of today it won’t let me move from image to image pressing the right arrow… but that’s not all, won’t even jump to picture if you click the forward arrow on the page. Only reason I have version 27.x on 1 profile… and yeah, does it all. But the bookmarks are a pain in the arse. What’s wrong with Opera that they won’t implement the bookmarks like they had before they switched to the Chromium engine?

  • senna_4ever

    – remove button
    EPIC WIN, opera!!

Just lacking now to add the option of editing the bookmark title before of saving and choose better the folder to save it (showing the main folders, with subfolders inside them)

I noted a thing: when I active the flag for seeing the SD entries from bookmark manager, I dragged a folder (MYNAME-PC) that was in SD with all SD entries into a new created folder, thinking it would clean my SD, but the SD tab shows to me this full of SD entries. Is there any way I clean my SD saving the entries to other folder/place?
